They didn’t find much more to fight unfortunately. Just a few T1 boars. Each died to a single attack. Kennon was immensely upset he didn’t find anything else worthy of a fire ball. But an empowered arc did take down a boar with ease.
They also gathered more Iron sand. Bev had a project in mind that would need quite a lot of it.
Come morning they each set about their projects. At Bev’s suggestion Kennon would be training magic on the other side of the river away from their cabin. His first task would be to make a bridge with animate earth. Kennon was certain he could do it in a day. But Tutor insisted that it would take a week to do it “properly”.
Bev could already feel Kennon’s irritation in anticipation of several days of lectures about the spell.
She would be getting a summary when he was done. For which she was very grateful.
As for her, she intended to make a suit of full plate armor.
Sure, she had enhanced skin, and a durability spell. But if she met another T2 tiger that would be worth very little.
She didn’t have enough steel for the job though. So the first thing she needed to do was smelt more. Thankfully she had an alternative to standing over the smelter with a heat spell. She just needed to enchant the smelter to do it on its own.
She knew she had a heating rune in her notes. She wasn’t sure it was enough. But it was a start. So she pulled up her notes in the system and was shocked by what she saw.
An entire library of rune diagrams.
“Tutor, what is this?”
On reaching initiate all accessible runes were added to your notes to form a rune library. I am surprised it took you this long to check. You must like me.
Bev ignored the last comment. In favor of examining the rune library.
It was incredible.
It had to have been every T1 rune she ever heard of, and several she hadn’t. Just how extensive was the library?
The library contains all runes that are deemed viable at this level, and not too dangerous to use without supervision. You did always say I talked too much. Now you can just look it up!
Enjoy.
She would. She very much would.
The smelter situation had completely changed. The box that held the ore was now inscribed with everything needed to do the smelting and carburization on its own.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
All she had to do was fill it, and empty it. It did have a few flaws though.
Molded stone smeltery(very low grade) - smelter - T1
A full fledged smelter designed to turn iron ore into decent steel with no input.
Due to the low grade of materials, and the rushed inscription it will burn out quickly.
This is enchanted by an initiate enchanter.
Enchants
Steel smelter 1
Honestly the mention of the inscription being rushed felt a little insulting. She spent all day on it. She was doing to be running it over night. Given the warnings in the appraisal though she was a little worried it wouldn’t even be able to finish a single batch.
So she decided to make sure the box was completely full, so if it did burn itself out she would have enough.
She was eager to get her new armor.
It took two days to get enough steel. She might have been a little over eager when she filled it to capacity.
She had to rebuild the smelter twice. But it did work without input. And as long as she didn’t over fill it she found it didn’t actually burn out.
She did more than just rebuild the smelter though.
She made significant progress on her gambeson. And she added some creature comforts to their cabin.
She finally broke down and made a permanent steel alarm to replace the stone one. And she threw together some chairs, a table, and some proper dishes. All stone of course.
The nightly summary of Kennon’s training from Tutor helped speed that along significantly. Apparently with enough mana, and precise application of will you could actually transform plain old dirt into any common stone. She hadn’t managed that yet. But Kennon was starting to get the hang of it. He was using that ability to offset their salt supplies that had been running low.
It was incredibly inefficient of course. It took all of Kennon’s mana just to create a single cup of salt. But without any other ways of getting salt it was a massive boon.
Their camp really was coming together nicely. It was starting to feel like a home. A part of her would be sad when they eventually left it. Fortunately everything except the cabin itself would be coming with them. Their storage crate was large enough to hold everything. And they were strong enough to lift it.
It helped that it didn’t carry the weight of its contents.
In any case, Bev had enough steel now. So it was time to get to work on proper armor.
She decided that it would be a set. All pieces working in concert to create a master piece.
All of the plates would have force redirection. That redirection would send a portion of all force into her sabatons and directed into the ground.
She thought about having fingerless gauntlets that simply protected the back of her hands. But she had time to do it right. And when they left this would be the perfect way to show people she wasn’t an ordinary novice. And she would almost certainly still be classified as a novice. Unless they got to level ten and she got a hybrid class.
Holding a cloth pack on her back when wearing full plate was a bit foolish, so while she would likely still carry the bag around it would not be what held her weapons. She got Tutor’s permission to add metal pouches to the belt that would be spatial sheaths.
She could hold her halberd, a knife, and a dozen javelins at once.
She had already started working on the javelins. Made from sun tiger bone sharpened to a point they would be light, but sharp, and strong.
The next fight she got in, she would be able to sleep through without getting hurt.
Thank you for sharing my journey. To help me walk it I have a set up. It is 20 chapters ahead and releases at the same time as the Royal Road chapters.
