  [LOG BEGINS]

In a quiet little city, nestled between the hills and the sea, lived a family of five.

A hardworking mechanic father called Kasner Kanes, a nurturing housewife mother called Ami Kanes, an older university-bound son called Ren Kanes, a rebellious middle daughter in high school called Hana Kanes, and a curious kindergartener who followed them all like a shadow called Rui Kanes.

It began with a little white lie.

Hana, dressed in a short skirt, crop top blouse, knee-high socks and sneakers, snuck out of the house to attend a party. She didn’t tell anyone. At home, the rest of the family was preparing for an emergency.

A broadcast warning of a monstrous tsunami aired on every device; TVs, phones, tablets, urging all citizens to secure their homes and seek safety.

They had already had a bunker. Then they started gathering the essentials, they began calling out for Hana so that she could pack her essentials as well but there was no answer.

When they went to check on her, the room was empty. Panic hit. Her parents tried her phone over and over but nothing until finally, Ren managed to get her.

“Where are you? We’ve been trying to get you, it’s an emergency!” he shouted in panic.

She laughed. “Relax, I’m at a party. I snuck out. Chill.” She replied.

His blood boiled. “This isn’t a joke! There’s a tsunami coming! We need to leave NOW.”

That got her attention. “What? I didn’t see anything on my phone...” She paused. Then reluctantly gave him her location: the old abandoned church. Ren knew exactly where it was and told Kasner.

Kasner and Ren planned to go for her, but Ami, with tears in her eyes, begged not to be left behind. She needed her whole family together.

So all of them went. Ami laced up her running shoes, while Rui clung to his older brother’s back, and they ran swiftly to the abandoned church.

After reaching, they quickly found her after gazing around, tears streaming down her face, apologizing. Her father forgave her instantly after softly scolding her.

  Then came the video.

  Phones lit up.

A grotesque creature filled every screen: the upper half an aged, wrinkles everywhere creature which resembled a female of Asian descent, the lower half a single slithering tentacle. Her eyes were shut, her voice low and gargling.

  Ren quickly covered Rui's eyes.

The figure’s voice gurgled low and slow:

“Where’s my son? Have you seen my son?”

No one replied. Some laughed nervously. Others froze.

The voice grew louder. “Why aren’t you answering me? Where’s my son?!” she growled. “Don’t ignore me!”

  Silence filled the air.

Then its eyes slowly began to open, and its voice gradually got louder and louder.

“SINCE YOU’RE IGNORING ME, LOOK INTO MY EYES AND ANSWER ME!!”

“LOOK AT ME!! LOOK AT ME!”

It shouted in a deafening screech, everyone clucking their ears and ducking down.

The walls trembled. The video vanished. Then it appeared as a towering building shadowing everything, monstrous and very real. With more tentacles striking buildings, people, everything.

  Everyone was running in fear.

Some fell while dashing away, tumbling into one another until the street ahead was no longer a street, it was a roaring wall of water stretching across the horizon filling the entire area, black, blue and glistening under the sky like glass about to shatter.

Shapes slithered inside the wave; grotesque sea creatures with too many eyes and too many limbs, clawing at the rising water as if racing to get out.

The tsunami had arrived and the waves came crashing with one sole purpose and that is to destroy everything in its vicinity.

The family ran—Ren was at the front with the Rui on his back, while Kasner was running behind with his wife and daughter’s hands in his.

Ami and Hana started crying, thinking all hope was lost and so was Rui while clinging tightly on Ren's back.

They were running as fast as they can to get home since they weren’t too far from where they lived.

Also not too far behind were the same waves and creatures heading towards them.

Ahead and behind, death was awaiting them.

And to make matters even worse, from the cracks in the pavement, came small wet slaps of poisonous frogs, dozens of them, sickly green with translucent skin and swollen, pulsing sacs on their backs.

One leapt onto a man’s face. He screamed before toppling over, twitching violently as hissing foam spilled from his mouth.

  But not the Kanes family.

Strange small creatures illuminated through the chaos, flickering in and out of sight.

These glowing creatures, no bigger than a chihuahua, floated down around the family and started helping them.

They instructed; “Don’t run. Walk. Hold hands. Do not look- no matter what you hear or feel.”

The family had no other choice but to trust them- and since the entire family was there, they could die like one big happy family.

Together, the family obeyed. The waves passed by them harmlessly. Relief washed over them.

Then Hana felt her father’s hand change. It became wet. Webbed! Wrong!

She broke the one instruction she shouldn’t have.

  She looked.

  It wasn’t her father.

It was something and it was smiling.

Her mouth opened to scream, but her voice cracked in her throat as tears welled in her eyes.

This thing’s eyes were glowing like the creatures before, but they held no kindness.

  Only hunger.

Hana immediately dropped the hand and started screaming for her father and mother, alerting the other creatures around her.

That prompted the rest to start crowding her.

And she continues screaming for her life….

There are more dreams to come.
