Chapter 28- Old Friends [2]

Later that night, Warren and Madison sit in stools at the bar where the group of rookies usually goes.

In the corner, Aaron, James, and Darius are sitting in the usual booth, all three wondering who Warren is with.

Madison then asks Warren a question.

"So, what'd you have to talk with Riley about."

Warren inhales deeply, holding his face in his hands.

"I had to give him some info."

"I also told him that I might not live to see the end of the year."

Madison looks shocked, clearly at a loss for words.

  "Wh-"

  Warren cuts her off.

"Cyrus is coming back, I know better than anyone that he isn't the type to let go of things."

"I didn't wanna worry you so I wasn't gonna tell you, but I guess the cat's out the bag."

"I think I should be able to beat him, or at least hold him for long enough, but I can never be too sure."

Madison thinks for a bit before asking her next question.

"So what was the deal you had to make with Riley?"

  Warren exhales.

"I told him that if i die, he has to fight Cyrus, I've already done it, he needs to take his turn."

  Madison chuckles.

  "So..."

  The pause gets Warren's attention.

"Did you wanna... Do something tonight?"

Warren's face is enveloped in a huge grin.

  "I mean, I wasn't gonna ask, but that'd be a nice bonus."

  Madison also gains a grin.

"Well, maybe we should change location.

  Warren nods.

  "Maybe we should."

The two find their way out of the bar, as Aaron, Darius, and James watch.

  Darius raises an eyebrow.

"So... Anyone know who that girl was?"

  James responds.

"I think I caught her name when they were on their way in, something like Madison."

  Aaron chimes in next.

"So, I don't think I need to say it but-"

  Darius quickly responds.

"I know, right? I didn't know Warren had game like that."

Aaron chimes back in, slightly hushed, almost as if he's afraid Warren will hear.

  "Especially with her."

James looks a bit disappointed at him.

  Aaron defends himself.

"I mean all three of us saw her, right?"

The trio bursts into laughter as the night continues.

About an hour later, Warren lays in bed, Madison's head resting on his bare chest.

Warren caresses the back of her head and pulls it in for a small kiss on the top of the head.

Madison wears a small smile, squeezing him tight as she drifts into sleep.

Warren lays his head deep into the pillow, closing his eyes as he drifts away, into the past.
