Chapter 18: The Live Streaming at the Home-Viewing Terrace

The Home-Viewing Terrace (Wang Xiang Tai) is located after the Bridge of Helplessness, a high earthen platform towering into the clouds.

In the past, the sound of weeping here shook the heavens. Countless ghosts crowded the edge of the terrace, standing on tiptoes, trying to catch one last glimpse of their wives, children, and elders through the thin membrane separating Yin and Yang.

"Boohoo... my son... why have you lost weight..."

  "Wife... don't cry... remarry..."

This heart-wrenching scene made even the passing Slayer frown. Although he was decisive in killing, he was (or used to be) human, and couldn't stand this dawdling tragic drama.

Daoist Singularity walked over, looked at the chaotic scene, and shook his head.

"Too miserable. And the user experience is terrible." Singularity took out his tablet and recorded, "Signal unstable, picture blurry, not only no sound, but frequent disconnections. How can this be called viewing home? This is torture."

He turned to look at Slayer.

"Big Hero, you don't need to demolish anything here. You just need to... help me erect a pole."

Singularity pointed to a high peak nearby named "Yin Mountain." That was the commanding height of the Underworld.

  Slayer understood.

He pulled a massive, metallic-gleaming pillar from his dimensional pocket. It was originally a flagpole from some demon castle, now modified by Singularity into a signal transmission tower.

Slayer shouldered the pillar, leaped up to the peak of Yin Mountain in a few bounds, and stabbed it down with force.

  BOOM!

The signal tower stood erect on the mountaintop.

Singularity immediately began operations below: "Heavenly Dao Network connecting... 5G signal full coverage... Quantum encryption channel open..."

  Hum—!

On the Home-Viewing Terrace, those originally blurry "Yin-Yang Membranes" suddenly disappeared.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

Replacing them were dozens of huge, suspended, high-definition LED screens.

The screens lit up, and the picture clarity instantly went from 360p to 4K HDR.

  Not only that.

Singularity also issued a VR headset (actually modified from skulls) to every ghost.

"Folks! Stop crying!" Singularity shouted with a megaphone. "In response to the Underworld's 'Humanistic Care' policy, the Home-Viewing Terrace has now been upgraded to the 'Yin-Yang Video Call Center'!"

"Put on your glasses! Not only can you see your family, but you can also have a video call with them through the 'Dream Entrustment Protocol'! Although it's limited to 5 minutes a day (data is expensive), it's absolutely HD and uncensored! You can even send bullet comments!"

  The ghosts were stunned.

An old ghost tremblingly put on the glasses.

In the next second, he saw his son in the mortal realm burning paper money in front of the mourning hall.

  And he could speak.

"Son! Stop burning that paper car! It's too fake! No keys either! Burn me some real paper money; QR code payment is popular down here now!"

The son in the mortal realm was dozing off when he suddenly dreamed of his dad's HD face right in front of him. He was startled awake, but then came wild joy: "Dad?! Are you okay over there?"

"I'm great! They just opened a high-speed rail here, and no overtime! By the way, the bankbook password at home is..."

Similar scenes popped up one after another on the Home-Viewing Terrace.

The originally tragic weeping turned into a lively "Cross-Realm Video Chat Scene."

"Wife, don't cry, I passed the civil service exam in the Underworld!"

"Mom, I want to eat braised pork, remember to bring some next time you visit, the Meng Po Soup here is too bland."

Slayer stood in the distance, leaning against a rock, watching this scene.

He didn't go over to join the fun. Because he had no home anymore, and no family. His home (Earth) had been destroyed before, and his family (except the rabbit) were all dead.

But watching the smiles on those ghosts' faces, even dead people seemed so vivid at this moment.

Slayer's fingers gently tapped the stock of his shotgun.

If back then... there was such technology...

Maybe he could have seen Daisy one last time. Seen his comrades one last time.

Singularity walked to Slayer's side and handed him a bottle of "Iced Happy Water" freshly bought from a vending machine.

"Big Hero, thanks." Singularity pointed at the screens. "This is also a form of redemption, right?"

Slayer took the drink, pulled the tab.

  Psst—

He took a sip. Although not as kick-ass as demon blood, it was indeed... refreshing.

  He nodded.

Although he wasn't good at these warm scenes, he didn't hate them. After all, wasn't his original intention of killing demons to allow this kind of ordinary happiness to continue?

  "Tragedy vs Technology."

Singularity used technology to dissolve the barrier of death.

And Slayer used force to guard this tranquility.

"Stop crying, you can scan the QR code to leave a message for your family."

This seemingly cold sentence had now become the warmest slogan in the Underworld.

"Next chapter, time to solve the problem at Dog-Evil Ridge (E Gou Ling). Big Hero Slayer seems to like dogs? There are dogs everywhere there."
