The alarm blared, and the message played. We were up and out, and in our mechs in less then 3 minutes. We were in our positions in 5.

We guarded for a bit, and then headed back when the all clear called. She decided to head to the firing range to practice with the hand held weapons we got stuck with.

Unlike her old shotgun, the M7 PDW was a 5mm smg. It was light, short, and had a blistering 900 rpm. The recoil was light, and it had 60 rounds a mag. That, with a M6 magnum and a combat knife made her loadout if she ever had to bail out.

She had made a point to do some bailout drills in the sims, and it was appropriately terrifying. The pistol does more damage, but it has shit accuracy beyond 50m, due to the lack of stock. The m7 has triple that easily.

But the 5mm was underpowered against shielded targets, she had found. It took alot of rounds to bring one down. But against a fleshy enemy, even with armor, it does extremely well. But the lack of mass really hindered the thing.

She arrived at the range, and signed out the weapons and ammo. She took a stall, and began shooting the M7 in bursts.

She found that burst firing conserved ammunition, as full auto use munched through ammo remarkably quickly, to the point of uselessness. The only reason to use it is shielding.

When she finished her allotted mags of 5mm, she switched to her M6. She practiced drawing for a bit, before drawing and firing 3 shots like some old cowboy.

Nivka practiced careful, aimed shots as well, but primarily focused on the 'OH SHIT' draw and fire method. It had come in useful before. It likely would again.
