The Morning of

Jack looked out the window of the house and tightened the bowtie of his tux. The party was a mostly boring affair. It wasn't his fault that adult parties were always boring for teenagers. His mother was busy talking to a film executive about making a movie based on her life story. Jack couldn't wait for his life story to be in theaters for millions of people to gawk at. Jack sighed, but it was then that he heard a smooth British voice behind him say, “Well, it's nice to see you around.” Jack turned back and blushed. It was James, and Jack had to admit that James looked good. He was wearing a bright blue suit that complemented his wonderful blue eyes and platinum blonde hair. “Hello ... James it's been while” James replied, “I know it has been, and I've been thinking about you” Jack blushed “Yeah me too, I’ve been waiting for this” It was then that James reached forward and gently touched Jacks chin, he then stepped forward and the two locked eyes, both of the young men looked at each other and took a deep breath before James leaned in and gently kissed his rival on the mouth.

Jack’s eyes popped open.... “Thank god it was only a dream,” He sat up again on his bed, wearing his black silk pajamas. “I need to stop having these weird-ass dreams”. He looked over at the calendar; it was the day of the charity event, and tonight he would be going out with his friend on a fake date. He hated that he had to do this but, he wasn't ready to come out of the closet yet so if it meant holding his friend's hand for a bit... so be it” It was then he sat up in bed and started dialing Cassidy. After a few rings he heard the voice of his his friend “Hey Jackie, what’s up?” “Nothing much, I just called to see if you will be ready tonight at six” “Yeah, no problem I will be more than ready” “You know what to wear right?” Cassidy rolled her “Listen Jackie, I've been doing then for longer than you, I got it” Jack paused and then continued “Thank you Cas, thanks for being my escort” “No problem man, I'll see you at six” It was then that the phone hung up without either one of them saying goodbye.

He got down from his bed and started to yawn and stretch. He went to his bathroom and did his usual morning routine of brushing his teeth, getting in the shower, and then brushing his hair. He looked in the mirror at his new hair. It was a nice cut; it was longer on the top and shorter on the sides. Sid used clippers for the sides, giving it a more natural look. He took his fingers through the top of his thick black hair. It felt really good to see the splash of blue on his dark hair. It gave some vibrancy to his dark hair. He had always had thick dark hair, unlike his mother’s side of the family, who always had lighter, more brittle hair. He had thick dark hair like his father; apparently, back in the day, his father had always had thick black hair. Not that he would know, when he was growing up, his father was always a balding man who started balding in his forties. He put on his thick black frame glasses, Buddy Holly style, his father said; he had the same kind. He looked so much like his father that he was always reminded of him every time he looked in the mirror.

He put on some clothes and made his way downstairs to the kitchen. There, his mother was sitting down at the dining room countertop, eating a single piece of grapefruit and a bowl of Grapenuts cereal while reading Variety. He was looking intently at the magazine. Jack came into the kitchen and started to pour himself a bowl of Cocopuffs He took a bite from his puffs and then looked over at Mary and then said, “Hey Mom... It's me, Jack.” She looked up from her paper and smiled. “Oh, hey ... Jack, I was just reading this piece here. Variety is doing a piece about the charity event tonight.” Jack took a bite of his puffs and said, “Well... What do they say about it?” Mary looked at Jack, “Don’t talk when your mouth is full.” Jack then swallowed his food. “Well, what does it say?” Mary replied, “Oh, it talks about all the celebrities who are going to be there tonight, some actors, some high society types, and some film producers. So, it's going to be a great opportunity to get to know the high society of his city.” Jack sighed, “Yeah, sure ....” Jack then rolled his eyes.

Mary looked at Jack. “This is important, Jackie. I have learned in life that it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and these people will be important connections for us.” Jack sighed “Yeah I guess so, oh by the way Cassidy will be here at six ready to go” Mary nodded “I will thank her later for that... she’s doing us a favor, with these high society types they love seeing people be escorted with a partner, not me though being single is part of my brand image now” Jack sighed as Mary for the first time noticed her son’s new haircut “Oh hey Jackie, I didn’t notice you got a new haircut!” Jack replied sheepishly, “Uh, Uhh.. Do you like it?” Mary smiled and ran her hand through her son’s hair. “ I think it looks great, it really makes you stand out.” Jack looked shocked. “R.. Really?” Mary sighed, “Yeah, it can be part of our brand image, it looks great when we do our photoshoot later, okay, I’m going for a jog, after that we will get ready!” Jack sighed as his mom got up and out of the kitchen, her breakfast uneaten. Jack sighed and looked at the clock; it was only eight in the morning.
