Chapter 238: Firefight (Part 3)

  Chapter 238: Firefight (Part 3)

Regardless of their magic school, all mages, prompted by the call, unleashed their most lethal spells towards that location. The magical frenzy at the forest's edge once again erupted from the mages' hands. Ice pillars, ice balls, lightning, and flames intertwined and roared as they surged towards that location, crushing, shattering, scorching, and devouring everything in their path, like a chaotic, all-annihilating torrent from the primordial era.

The sounds of explosions, flames, and collisions continued to the target's location and then erupted with a boom, and similarly, a purgatorial furnace of magic shot into the sky.

"We got him. That damn Elf." many mages roared. The calmness and wisdom that great mages should have had long since vanished because of their companions' corpses and the constant fighting.

However, at the same time, some more observant mages noticed that although this time it was much smaller due to the mages' mana depletion, and the distance was far, with the target being only an estimate based on the spotter's report, the torrent formed by the convergence of dozens of high-level spells had clearly not unleashed its full power. Whether it was the power of the flames or the explosions, it seemed to have invisibly diminished.

But none of this seemed to matter. They could already see the faint, sky-reaching giant tree ahead. With the current balance of power, even razing the entire forest was not a problem.

"Hand over the Leaves of the World Tree. Otherwise, we will really raze this place." a great water mage shouted loudly. But this sentence immediately summoned countless arrows, which almost shattered his surrounding Hurricane Aegis.

"Hm?" Master Aiden, who was recovering his magic on top of an air elemental, looked down. He felt that a kind of aura seemed to start emanating from below, an aura he was familiar with, one he had also felt the last time he was above this forest.

With a cold snort, a bolt of lightning as thick as a water bucket shot out from Master Aiden's hand. A nearby Pegasus that was diving towards here, along with the knight and Elven mage on its back, all became charcoal. This bolt of lightning did not just dissipate. Instead, it jumped and struck another Pegasus knight not far away, and then dissipated along with the nearest air elemental.

Now, only a few Pegasus knights remained in the air. This was still because those who could ride Pegasuses were the most excellent archers and mages among the Elves. The Pegasus knights, carrying Elven mages, were already at an absolute disadvantage as they tried their best to contend with the ten or so air mages in the high sky. And with Master Aiden's move, it almost declared that the battle was about to end.

  Stolen novel; please report.

"I'll take care of these guys right away. You help me cast Falling Stars one more time." Aiden floated up, flying towards the few remaining Pegasus knights like a weightless phantom.

On the Elven War Ancient Tree, Luya watched the battle in the sky, her face already extremely ugly. The sound of magical explosions from that side was getting closer and closer, almost about to reach this place.

In the Sunwell beneath the War Ancient Tree, the well water, which was almost dry at the beginning, now had a shallow layer. Without the ancient tree drawing from it, the Sunwell's power was indeed slowly recovering, but it seemed this recovery speed would probably not be fast enough.

"Quickly, go get the three mutated mantis eggs from the ancient tree." Luya ordered the elites beside her.

Several Elven elders beside her immediately spoke out to stop her: "But Her Majesty Queen Isabelle left a dying decree that these things cannot be used. Elder Lloyd also said..."

"Isn't that better than letting them raze Whispering Woods to the ground?" Luya was so agitated she almost roared, then she relaxed and slowly sighed. "It's okay. Since we have even taught others to use the Dimensional Gate, what is there that we cannot do? All of this is forced upon us. Her Majesty the Queen and the great Mafa will forgive us."

Three huge, white, egg-shaped objects were placed at the top of the War Ancient Tree with the greatest speed.

If not told, no one would think these were biological eggs, but rather huge white rocks. Even a dragon's egg, in front of this huge object that was as tall as a person, would be like a pea. And it wasn't just big; on its surface were carved countless tiny magic runes by some unknown method.

A Leaves of the World Tree was placed on one of the giant eggs. Luya slowly chanted the magic runes on the eggshell. The magic runes on the eggshell began to emit light, and on the Leaves of the World Tree, the seemingly eternal green light, full of vitality, dimmed for a moment at this time.

When the magic runes outside the eggshell reached their peak brightness, the eggshell let out a crisp cracking sound and split open, revealing what was inside—a curled-up mantis.

It was a green mantis, and it seemed there was no obvious difference from an ordinary mantis, aside from being ridiculously large. Stepping out of the man-high giant egg and stretching its body, this insect was even comparable in size to a Pegasus. And most crucially, its body seemed to be slowly swelling up as if it were being inflated. By the time Luya hatched the third mantis egg, the first hatched mantis had already grown to a size comparable to a Wyvern.

The mantis's two huge, long scythes flashed with an oily green glint. Although their volume was slightly smaller than a Wyvern's, no one would doubt that a single mantis like this could absolutely withstand more than ten Wyverns. The agility and strength of insects could never be matched by other creatures.

With a loud boom, the last Pegasus knight, along with the Elven mage behind him, became sky-filled fragments under a Thunderblast Bomb. The flesh, blown into sheet-like pieces, drifted down towards the forest like a light rain under the blast wave.

"These bastards wasted my time." Master Aiden spat heavily. With a wave of his hand, a whirlwind shredded the poisonous wasps summoned by an Elven mage. He could already feel that the aura of the Sunwell below was getting stronger and stronger. Once the Sunwell's anti-magic barrier was restored, all their efforts would be for nothing. These Pegasus knights didn't seem to want to fight them head-on either, merely using their arrows and the mutated insects summoned by nature magic to harass them. But in the sky, there was indeed no opponent who could fight against several great air mages.

Master Aiden had just been about to call out to the other great mages when he saw three green figures fly out from the forest below. Their size, much larger than a Pegasus's, was even more flexible and agile. And his eyes, enhanced with a high-level Eagle's Eye, also saw clearly that they seemed to be three mantises.

Three mantises? Master Aiden almost thought there were gnome illusionists among the Elves, or that he had seen things and mistaken the three insects that flashed before his eyes for behemoths flying from afar.

So he was stunned. The other great mages who also saw these three things were naturally also stunned.

In just that moment of stunned silence, the three seemingly illusory mantises approached at a high speed, and they did something that an illusion absolutely could not do, proving that they were indeed not an illusion.
