Chapter 25 - The will of the Chosen One

The boy’s face was ashen, and he was sweating all over his body.

“Calm down, take a deep breath.” Kivrah assisted the boy to sit on a stone.

When the kid calmed down, Kivrah slowly asked him. “Tell me, kid. What do you mean they are here?”

When the kid remembered the answer, his body quivered. “The boar, the-eyre are here. Arsh to-told me to go back to camp to let you know.”

Civ and Kivrah's hearts were beating faster. The Shaman went to Civ and Kivrah.

“Let me take care of the kid.” The Shaman carried the boy, who was already exhausted.

When the Shaman left, Kivrah let a deep sigh. “We are almost finished in here, but the boar is already around us.”

Arsh and the rest of her team went north. The camp knows there are dangers in going there, but they need to take a risk to complete the camp’s wall. Also, to scout the boars.

“Father, please let me leave the camp. I need to see where the boars were so we can plan ahead. If ever there is a boar lost and attacks here, you can follow what we discussed.” Civ did some calculations. He hopes that the attack will not come as early as he expected.

Kivrah agrees. He was left with no choice. But to let half of the Firewood team and Civ leave the camp to assist Arsh in case they are attacked. With extra stone spears, Civ and the team left the camp going north.

The team marched north with urgency. After 30 minutes, they saw Arsh’s group. When Arsh noticed Civ brought a group, she immediately signaled Civ to duck. Civ quickly whispered to the team.

“Let's duck and crawl towards them.” They followed the instructions and slowly approached the team.

When they arrived, Civ was shocked. He was seeing 20 - 25 boars. No piglets in sight, but all big, angry male boars. He thought that these boars would fight each other. But instead, they are living in harmony.

He gulped a mouthful of saliva. “That is why you cannot leave the forest yet?” Civ wants to confirm with Arsh.

“No Civ. We already had the woods to bring in camp, but when we heard a noise, we followed it.” Arsh looked at the boars and sighed.

“I have someone to call you because I know you need to see this. Also, in case they start going to camp, we are here to fight them.” Arsh knows the consequences that she is risking. But right now, Civ needs to see the situation because he is the only one who can come up with an immediate solution.

“I understand. For now, let’s leave quietly here and pick up the wood you gathered.” Civ let the team quietly leave the boars. They did it successfully without any issues.

When they arrived at the camp, Kivrah and everyone were anxiously waiting for them.

Kivrah looked around the arriving team. Everyone arrived and did not have any injuries. “What happened, Son? I’m glad everyone is safe.”

“Yes Father, but our situation right now is not good.” Civ seriously stared at the wall.

Civ detailed what they saw in the north. Kivrah can’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose and let out a heavy sigh.

‘With the current structure we have. It will be impossible to avoid danger if we stay here.’ Kivrah wants to decide on the next step for this situation.

“But Father, I think we can still finish the walls.” Civ caressed his chin as he saw the other group bringing the wood they had gathered.

Kivrah also agrees they can make it work. But they need next Sun day to work, which other boars might be already around their camp.

“I agree with you Son, but we cannot do it tomorrow. It might be dangerous if we continue tomorrow.” Kivrah shakes his head.

“It’s sad to say, but we need to leave the camp now!” Kivrah made his final decision.

“Wait Father, let me finish first before telling our tribemen. I think we can still finish the wall.” Civ tried to reason out.

Leaving the camp will be the last option if everything becomes dangerous for the tribe. Their camp right now is the best location Civ can think of. There is an abundance of trees for shade and protection. Access near the river and away from the predators. Also, they have an available cave where they can store their tools to avoid damage. If they leave it right now, it will take time before they can look for another cave.

Kivrah takes a deep breath. “I’m listening.”

“I believe we can still finish the walls, but there is only one way we can do it.” Civ stared at his father's eyes while he carefully explained.

Kivrah squinted his eyes and leaned towards Civ, “What method?”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

“We’ll we can start working on this until the Sun Goddess sleeps.”

“No way!” Kivrah was against the idea.

“It will be disrespectful to the Sun Goddess if we do it. I cannot let it happen. ”

“Please consider Father. This is the best location we have as a camp. If we leave here, it will be hard to come back here! Let me ask our tribesmen and the Shaman. If they agree, please let me do it.” Civ has no choice right now but to convince his Father of the idea. If his father tried to go against the idea, all of the plans he has right now need to be reviewed. He cannot let it happen and waste another time coming up with plans.

“I’ll give you one chance. You need to convince the Shaman first. If you still cannot convince her after the last group that gathered wood arrives. We need to leave this place right away!” Kivrah was firm in his decision. He does not have a moment to spare for Civ as he is blinded by the danger ahead.

“Thank you, Father, I’ll talk to the Shaman right now.” Civ did not waste his chance and went to the Shaman’s hut.

“Let’s go there, Son.” With a serious face, Kivrah walked with Civ.

At the Shaman’s hut, the shaman is still treating the boy who was exhausted.

“How was the boy, Shaman?” Kivrah asked.

“He’s fine. He was just exhausted from running. He’ll be okay once he wakes up,” the shaman smiles while applying a white ointment to the forehead of the kid.

Kivrah nodded. “Shaman, we are in danger right now. Civ, tell her what the situation is.”

Seeing his Father’s tensed gestures, Civ explained the situation and his plan to the Shaman. He made sure it was short and quick.

When the Shaman heard the exact situation, she did not react. Her eyes were still as clear water. She smiled and looked at the tribe leader.

“I’ve had a dream. A few days ago.” Upon hearing these words from the Shaman. Kivrah hurriedly sat next to Civ and leaned toward the Shaman.

“Shaman, please tell me what you saw.” Kivrah was sweating and breathing heavily, but his eyes had quite optimism in them.

“I saw a monster, and it tried to attack me. But it was unable to get near me. It was bumping into something. It feels like something was stopping them.” She pointed to the wall in the east.

“Until I saw what you and the rest of the tribesmen built.” Shaman Mashu’s face was shining bright and smiling.

Kivrah looked at the wall. He closed his eyes while holding both hands of the Shaman.

When he opened his eyes, he looked at Civ.

“Civ, are you sure you can finish it?” Kivrah left with no choice but to trust his son again.

  “Well,” Civ twiddled his thumbs.

“I still need to convince our tribesmen. We will work at night, so I still need their support.” Civ does not want to push things under his command.

“I get it. Let me call the tribesmen.” Kivrah hurriedly left the camp. Leaving Civ with the Shaman.

The Shaman looked at Civ and smiled. “I know you can do it. Believe in yourself as I and the Sun Goddess believe you can guide humanity.”

Hearing this made Civ's body shiver a little. But he strengthened his will and smiled at the Shaman.

“Leave it to me Shaman, I will keep everyone safe.” Civ tapped his heart, brimming with confidence.

“I know Civ, I know you will.” Shaman nodded and gestured to follow his Father.

Civ quickly left the camp. The Shaman stared at the entrance, her eyes were in deep thought.

When he arrived at the front of the cave, where the campfire was, his tribemen were already gathered.

“I called them Civ. Hope you convince them.” Kivrah really wants to move the camp to a safer location. But with Shaman's revelation, he wants to hold on to this dream. A hopeful dream.

The crowd, however, was murmuring. They heard from the others that there are many boars near them from the north. They are hoping that either they will be saved or the camp will be moved away from the boars.

When they saw Civ in front, everyone was silent. So silent that you can hear the crackling of the campfire.

“My fellow tribesmen. I would like to let everyone know, what you heard was true. The boars are near our camp. These boars are many.”

Everyone starts talking to each other. A chaos in the camp is brewing.

Civ took a deep breath and raised his voice.

“But the Shaman had a dream!” Everyone fell silent again and stared at Civ.

“She cannot tell it to us personally right now, because she is praying to the Sun Goddess. For our protection.” Civ looked at the campfire that was raging and illuminating the night.

“She said it was a few Sun days ago. What she saw was a boar that tried to attack her, but was unable to reach her. It's like something is separating her from the boar.” Civ pointed at the wall.

“The Shaman realized that it was the wall. My fellow tribesmen. I know you are afraid right now, even I am. I am afraid of these boars.”

Civ's hands were really shaking right now. In his life on Earth, he only watched speeches. He did not know how hard to convince people. But he closed his sweaty palm and looked at the crowd.

“With this revelation, I know what we need to do. It is to finish the wall! But I hope everyone can help me finish this before the Sun Goddess wakes up tomorrow.” Civ was able to say what he needed to say without stuttering. Which usually happens when he is nervous. But it seems that his will to keep his tribe safe helps his resolve to be as calm as possible.

The crowd starts talking to each other again. It is taboo for them to do something at night. It was a rule that was passed from generation to generation.

But right now, since the Chosen One is asking them for help, he starts to reconsider his request.

Civ looked at his team and his friends. They looked at him with unquestioning eyes, ready to do anything he asked them.

One from the crowd raised his hand. It was Vel.

“Oh, Chosen one. I want to help you finish the wall. But how can we see in the dark?”

This question almost made Civ laugh. Yes, it was ridiculous at first. But when he thinks about it, there is something his tribe might not notice.

“Oh, that one.” Civ picks one of the dried logs in the pile and lights the tip using the campfire.

“But using this. Also, we can make a new campfire in other locations of the camp.” Civ further explained.

Seeing this, everyone was shocked. “We can make another fire?!”

When the crowd learned this revelation, they were elated. If that is possible, then they can help the Chosen One with his plan.

  Everyone respectfully bowed.

“We wish to help you finish the wall, Oh Chosen one.”
