When I woke up I found myself in the middle of a crater so vast I couldn't see the end of it. With what little energy I still had I lifted myself off of the ground.
The landscape around me was desolate. Completely empty. I powered up a little bit of Dark Matter and headed towards the sky to look around.
Even from my new vantage point I couldn't see the end of the crater that I had been in the middle of. I sighed and started to fly in the direction of the academy.
Even though I didn't have much left in me, I maintained a pretty good clip and eventually made it to the academy.
It loomed in the distance surprisingly quiet. I figured that everyone was still reeling from the attack and that was why no lights were on.
Cautiously, I lowered myself into my cave and turned my armor back into underclothes before I started to make my way back towards the academy.
As I walked I noticed that something was horribly wrong. The gate that I passed which usually had guards in it was empty. The secondary entry patrol was also nowhere to be found.
I rushed through the halls as I looked through every corner trying to figure out what was going on. The entire academy seemed to be abandoned. I didn't see one soul.
I sprinted down a hallway very alarmed at this point and burst through the doors that led to the field that was always full of life. Now when I saw it, it was empty.
I spun on my heel and ran to our common room. No one was there so I barged into Harper's room. It was also empty and I was just about to leave when I spotted a note sitting on her desk.
I picked it up and read it.
We have gone to fight the Dark Lord. Michael and I have gone to redeem your parents. We will probably never come back alive and I just had to tell you: I love you.
I held the little paper in my hand and saw the tears that marred the ink. I crumpled it in my fist and sprinted out of her room.
I started to fly out of the room and flew to the security room where I finally figured out what was going on. I looked in dread at what I saw on one of the monitors.
The Darlings of Mars have broken through our military encampment and are attacking Earth. All available units are to be directed there. Even the students from the academy are directed to go.
I slumped down into one of the chairs and put my head in my hands. They really had gone to go fight the Dark Lord. I sat there with my head in my hands as I felt my pulse beat in my temples.
I probably would have sat like that forever but that weird voice jolted me out of my thoughts.
ARE YOU JUST GOING TO SIT HERE AND MOPE, the voice whispered into my soul. OR ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. GO TO THE OLD MAN. HE WILL AID YOU.
I looked towards the ceiling and stood up. I felt like I didn't have the time, but if the voice told me to do something, I would do it.

As quick as I could I burrowed down through the ground and found my cave where the old man was waiting for me.
"Long time no see," he said as I found him crouching on his cane in a corner. I nodded at him.
"The voice told me to come see you," I said right as the old man collapsed onto the floor and gave in to a fit of coughing.
"I'm afraid to say that my age is getting to me," he said. "Plus the fight against that Behemoth took a heavy toll on me."
"You were fighting that thing?" I said. He nodded his head.
"The desperate will even let their worst enemy help them in times of need. That included you, you know.
"Your performance wasn't half bad, but you could have beat him the first time around if you had just condensed your matter the way that I taught you."
I nodded my head. That HAD been my fault for not thinking about that.
"The good thing for you though is that you'll have another chance to prove yourself," the old man said. "You'll have to fight my son."
I stayed crouching down next to the old man for a couple of seconds before I realized what his simple sentence meant.
"He's... your son?" I said not knowing what to say.
The old man nodded his head.
"He was one of the best Dark Matter manipulators of the time as a kid. It was my fault that he turned. He would have these horrible fits of rage and unleash pure Dark Matter on me but I could hold him back. I thought he would be able to fight it..."
The old man started to sob and I laid a hand on his shoulder. After he wiped his eyes he continued.
"I should have turned him in and then one day this horrible writhing dark mass entered him and he was completely possessed. He flew off to Mars and I was banished down here.
"I've been teaching you how to condense matter for a reason, Wyatt. It was his greatest weakness. We must hope that it still is."
I could feel the old man's heart rate starting to slow down. I grabbed his hand as tears started to come to my eyes.
"Anyway, my time is coming. It's time for me to go to the saints," he said with a smile. "I wish you luck."
The old man closed his eyes and I started to sob great heaving sobs. I took his body and brought it up to the surface where I laid it in the meadow. He would have liked to see the sunlight again.
YOU HAVE TO GO, the voice suddenly interrupted me. YOU MUST MAKE FOR THE HEAVENS AND JOURNEY TO THE FIGHT.
I thought something about not being able to get through space and I felt the being in my head get angry.
DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT I NEED A SPACESHIP TO GET AROUND? the voice seemed to taunt me. NO, YOU WILL NEED A LOT OF MATTER BUT YOU CAN SUSTAIN THE VERY BEING OF YOUR LIFE WITH THE STUFF. YOU SHOULD BE ON EARTH IN NO TIME.
I then felt a new imprint on my brain. A new place to put my matter in and I knew somehow that if I kept that thing powered up I would be safe to leave the atmosphere of Titan.
The only problem was going to be how I would get all the matter that I needed.
LEAVE ALL THE MATTER TO ME. YOU JUST PREPARE THE MATTER THAT YOU WILL NEED TO FACE THE DARK LORD.
I gulped and activated my armor.
I plunged into the earth until I erupted into the underwater ocean. With my thoughts I lit up the tip of my sword and created a personal submarine around myself before plunging into the ocean.
Even my sword could barely light up the murky water but what I could see shocked me. Large shapes loomed far too close for comfort and when I reached out my consciousness I could feel an immense amount of Matter radiating from them. With a will of my mind I swiped the matter from all the creatures around me before going even farther into the ocean.
I went on like that for a while. By the time I was done I felt so powered up with energy that I was sure the entire ocean was lit up from my light.
At last I felt I had done all I could do so I burst through the ground back onto the surface. Right away I felt that new port in my brain open and I started to float up into the sky until I was floating in space, but someway, somehow I wasn't dying.
With one final glance I looked behind me at the planet Titan and gasped. Half of the planet was completely gone and it took me a second to realize it had been a complement of my explosion. I shook my head making sure it wasn't all some type of dream and when I was sure it was real, continued on my way.
Somehow my flesh-watch still worked so I used that to navigate at super fast speeds that would take me to Earth. It took a couple of minutes but eventually I saw the faint glow of Earth and somewhere between Earth and Mars, a fierce battle was taking place between two fleets of ships that went on as far as the eye could see.
I swooped down to the side that was defending Earth and plunged at the biggest ship in the middle of the armada. A door opened for me and I swooped in.
With no hesitation I ripped the mask off my face. I was done hiding. It was time to fight.
