Chapter 21

When I woke up, I found myself pinned under a giant slab of titanium. Thankfully it didn't weigh very much, and I was able to push it off of me.

I stood up and looked around at the carnage. There was a huge crater in the middle of the wreckage that was insanely large. The whole of Titan Academy could've fit in that crater!

Around the crater was wreckage as far as the eye could see. I was stranded in the middle of all the carnage, fairly close to the crater.

I gulped as I saw some floadons circling the air above us. This was not good. If they came down, we were all dead.

I sat down on a chair-like piece of titanium and put my head in my hands. What had I done? Clearly my little stunt had caused a lot more harm than good.

STILL, YOU SAVED A BUNCH OF KIDS THAT WERE GOING TO DIE. YOU GAVE THEM A CHANCE, WYATT.

At this point I couldn't even figure out whether that was my own thoughts mulling things over or that strange voice that would talk to me from time to time. I didn't care either.

WYATT, the voice whispered into my soul once again. Now I was sure it wasn't myself. YOU CAN STILL SAVE PEOPLE. THE TEACHERS WERE GOING TO COME THROUGH AND KILL ALL THE SURVIVORS ANYWAY. YOU CAN STOP THAT BY REVEALING YOURSELF. YOU MIGHT AS WELL TRY TO GO SAVE SOME PEOPLE WHILE YOU'RE AT IT.

In that moment, I hated every word that that stupid voice was saying to me, but I knew that it was right. That was a VERY smart thing to do in this situation.

I could save all those kids after all.

With all the strength I could muster, I took what little matter the floadons in the sky above me had. I grimaced as they all crashed to the ground, or more like floated, I should say, as their wings caught the air when they lost consciousness.

I reactivated my armor and put the visor down over my face. I shot into the air to survey the disaster around. Even in the air I could hardly see where the layer of rubble ended and a forest started.

One thing I could see though with my aerial vision was all sorts of predators creeping through the rubble. I took all their matter as well, so they were out of the picture for the time being.

Then I scanned the ground looking for all the kids that were going to be killed.

COME ON, I thought as I flew over the ground. SOMEBODY. ANYBODY!

Finally, I found a body flung onto the ground. I flew down next to them and felt their pulse. They were alive but barely.

I pumped a little bit of Matter into them and watched them stir. Once they opened their eyes, I shot back into the air.

ONE DOWN, ABOUT A HUNDRED MORE TO GO, I thought to myself, getting frustrated. There HAD to be a better way to do this!

Then I had another idea. An idea that would either save a bunch of people or get some people killed.

I hovered into the air until I was right in the middle of the crater, and I let out a wave of Matter. That should revive anyone who was still alive, but it also might wake all the beasts that I had put to sleep.

Now I just had to pray that the beasts wouldn't wake up. I waited there hovering in the air for about five minutes before I started to see people pushing out from under the rubble. And the beasts hadn't moved an inch.

I let out a shout into the air. We were saved!

It was then that I noticed the black streaks coming at me from all directions. I threw up my shield as ALL of the teachers from Titan Academy crashed into me. I bet we made an epic explosion.

Immediately I was hanging on for dear life. Heck, it was a miracle that the shield hadn't dissipated upon impact.

I looked out from my little orb and saw my teachers' faces. They were clearly shocked that my little shield had held them back. Still, I had no doubt that once they made a second attempt at me, I was dead.

The worst part was there was nothing I could do to save myself. There was no possible way I would be able to hold these people back.

HEY VOICE, I said, saying a silent prayer. IF YOU'RE OUT THERE AND YOU CARE ABOUT ME, IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU GAVE ME, LIKE, A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MATTER RIGHT NOW.

I didn't get a response. I didn't start to feel like a superhero. All that happened was the voice pushed my soul over to a nearby mountain.

That was when I realized that the mountain was ALIVE. And the amount of Matter in its soul was preposterous. I took all of it and redoubled my shield right as my teachers struck again. This time, I didn't waver at all. I had power. Real power in my grasp. If I wanted to, I could've blasted my teachers into the atmosphere. Killed them all on the spot.

But no, I was too nice. Instead I released all the Matter that was pulsing through my body and blasted them all the way back to the academy. The next time I saw them teaching, they had to wear actual clothes because I had destroyed too much of their dark matter.

Even after the blast, I still floated in the air with a decent amount of Matter left in my system. I guess now I knew. If you need a ridiculous amount of power, look for it in a mountain.

With that final thought in mind, I plunged into the dirt, digging to the ocean lair in record time. When I was there, I lit the tip of my sword and reached out my consciousness. I headed towards the very large presence of dark matter on the other side of the moon.

Once I was give or take there, I was able to locate the old man's cave. I managed to stumble in, but as soon as I looked in the old man's eyes, I collapsed onto the ground.
