Chapter 7

The cool evening air greeted them as they stepped outside the refuge, the city’s skyline glowing with the soft light of the sun setting in the distance. Freddie pulled out a small device from his pocket and activated it, a holographic map of Imperial City springing to life in front of them. The map was intricate, with glowing lines marking streets, alleys, and even underground tunnels.

“Alright,” Freddie said, zooming in on their location. “If we want to get to the palace without drawing too much attention, we’ll need to take the less crowded routes. Here’s what I’m thinking.” He traced a path with his finger, the route lighting up in blue. “We’ll cut through the old market district, then take the skyway near the Silver Gardens. It’s usually quiet around this time, and we can avoid the main thoroughfares.”

Robert leaned in, studying the map. “What about the patrols? Won’t they be watching those areas?”

Freddie smirked, tapping a few icons on the map. “Not if we time it right. The patrols switch shifts at sunset, so we’ve got a small window where they’re less active. Plus, the skyway’s elevated, so we’ll have a clear view of anyone approaching.”

Darian frowned, his arms crossed over his chest. “sounds good enough, quick and easy”

Robert placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “We’ll stick to the shadows and keep moving. If anyone gets too close, I’ll distract them. You just stay close to Freddie, okay?”

Darian nodded, though his expression was still uneasy. “Okay. But if this goes south…”

“It won’t,” Freddie said confidently, deactivating the holo- map. “Trust me, I’ve got this.”

They set off, moving quickly but carefully through the narrow streets of the old market district. The area was quieter now; the vendors packing up their stalls and the last few shoppers hurrying home. The air was filled with the scent of spices and fresh bread, a reminder of the city’s vibrant culture. As they walked, Darian glanced around, his eyes wide with curiosity. A woman nearby was using magnetism abilities to stack crates effortlessly, her hands glowing faintly as she worked. A group of children raced past, their laughter echoing as they used their powers to create small bursts of light in the air. One boy even had wings, flapping them lazily as he hovered above the ground.

“This is… incredible,” Darian murmured, his voice filled with awe. “the idea that everyone here has powers. It’s extraordinary. ”

Freddie grinned, nudging him with his elbow. “Pretty cool, right? Just wait until you see the palace. It’s like the crown jewel of the City.”

Robert glanced over his shoulder, his tone light but cautious. “Yeah, but let’s not get distracted. We need to keep moving.”

They turned onto a quieter street; the buildings casting long shadows as the sun dipped lower in the sky. Freddie led the way, his eyes scanning their surroundings for any signs of trouble. “Stay close,” he whispered, his voice barely audible. “We’re almost to the skyway.”

As they approached the entrance to the skyway, a man with glowing hands walked past, his fingers sparking with energy as he adjusted a malfunctioning streetlight. Darian stared, his steps slowing. “Is he… fixing that with his hands alone?”

Robert nodded, pulling him gently along. “Yeah. Many people here use their abilities for everyday stuff. It’s just how things work.”

Darian shook his head, still amazed. “Back home, we’d need tools and machines for that. This is… unreal.”

Freddie chuckled, though he kept his voice low. “Welcome to our world, Danny. Where things like this are the everyday norm.”

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

They reached the skyway, a sleek, elevated walkway that curved gracefully above the city. The view was breathtaking, the sprawling metropolis stretching out before them in a sea of light and motion. Darian paused, his breath catching in his throat. “This is… beautiful.”

Robert smiled, though his eyes were scanning the area for any potential threats. “It is. But we need to keep moving. The palace isn’t far now.”

As they walked along the skyway, Darian couldn’t help but marvel at the world around him. A couple floated past on a shared hoverboard, their laughter echoing in the evening air. Below, a man with super-speed zipped through the streets, delivering packages with impossible efficiency. It was a world unlike anything Darian had ever known, and despite his fear, he felt a flicker of wonder.

Freddie glanced at him, his grin widening. “Pretty wild, huh?”

Darian nodded, his voice soft. “Yeah. It’s… incredible.”

Robert’s voice cut through the moment, his tone firm but calm. “Stay focused, guys. We’re almost there.”

As they approached the royal palace, Darian’s steps slowed, his eyes widening as he took in the sight before him. The palace was a masterpiece of architecture, its towering spires of steel and concrete reaching toward the sky like the fingers of a giant. The sunlight glinted off its surface, casting a golden glow over the intricate carvings and designs that adorned every corner. Tall towers stood at each edge of the palace, their surfaces etched with symbols that seemed to shimmer and shift as the light hit them.

“Wow,” Darian breathed, his voice barely above a whisper. “It’s… incredible.”

Freddie grinned, slinging an arm around Darian’s shoulders. “Told you it was something else. Just wait until you see the inside.”

“Its sure is better than the one we have back in London.” said Darain “Earth has Royal Palace’s too?” asked Freddie

Robert smiled, though his eyes were scanning the area with caution. “Guys, we can talk about this later, lets get inside”

As they drew nearer, Darian’s attention was drawn to the fountain in front of the main entrance. It’s cascading water catching the light and creating a shimmering rainbow effect. At its center was the insignia of the royal family, a bold and intricate design that seemed to radiate authority. Surrounding the fountain was a lush rose garden, the vibrant reds, pinks, and yellows of the flowers a stark contrast to the dark, imposing structure behind them.

“This place is… unreal,” Darian said, his voice filled with awe.

Freddie chuckled. “I will own a palace one day, and everyone who doubted me will regret messing with King Freddie. “

Robert shot him a look. “Focus, Freddie. We’re not here to daydream.”

“When did you become the fun police” smirked Freddie. They climbed the grand staircase leading to the palace entrance, their footsteps echoing on the polished stone. As they stepped inside, Darian’s breath caught in his throat. The interior was even more breathtaking than the outside. The floors were made of the finest dark wood, each plank polished to a mirror-like shine. The walls were adorned with elegant tapestries in deep red, their intricate patterns seeming to shift and dance in the flickering candlelight. Above them, chandeliers sparkled like constellations, casting a warm glow over the opulent space.

“This is… insane,” Darian muttered, his eyes darting from one stunning detail to the next. “How do people even live like this?”

Robert smirked. “This is just the entrance.”

They followed the bright red carpet trimmed with gold, its luxurious texture soft underfoot. As they approached the reception desk, a woman in a sleek, modern uniform greeted them with a polite smile. “Hello, welcome to the royal palace. How can I help you today?”

Robert stepped forward, his tone respectful but confident. “I’m here to see Princess Kara. My name is Robert Martinez.” The receptionist’s fingers danced across a holographic interface, her eyes scanning the information that appeared. After a moment, she nodded. “Ah, yes. Mr. Martinez. Princess Kara is expecting you.” She pressed a button on her console, and three guards appeared almost instantly.

The guards were an imposing sight, dressed in uniforms of blue, gold, and red, the royal family’s insignia emblazoned on their chests. They carried plasma rifles, their presence both intimidating and reassuring. One of them stepped forward, his voice firm but polite. “If you’ll follow us, we’ll escort you to the princess.”

Robert nodded, glancing back at Freddie and Darian. “Stay close,” he murmured. “And remember, let me do the talking.” As they followed the guards deeper into the palace, Darian felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. The grandeur of the place was overwhelming, but it was also a reminder of the stakes they were facing. He glanced at Robert, who walked with a determined expression, his shoulders squared and his gaze focused.

“You sure this is going to work?” Darian whispered, his voice barely audible.

Robert met his eyes, his tone steady. “It has to.”
