The Revenge of the Wolves

When the dark creatures returned from their painful experience of eating the soybean creatures, which contained persimmons and ghost peppers, they all slunk into the camp, feeling the embarrassment of failure. That is, all but Corrigan. He, being bent on revenge, sought out Lucent. Corrigan approached Lucent, with his hair bristling on his back and neck and his teeth bared. “Fox, where are you; we have to talk.”

Lucent walked up to Corrigan, happily. After all, he had found a rabbit family early that morning and had a feast. Corrigan snarled at him and said, “Do you know what trick the wizards played on us? They made a fake infirmary and had sick and ailing animals in the beds. We, of course, assumed these sick animals would make a great breakfast and, with neither of the wizards in sight, attacked immediately. Nogdorf had formed animals out of soybeans and made them look very lifelike, but that wasn't enough. No, that was not enough for Nogdorf. He put the hottest peppers AND persimmons in the mixture and not only burnt our mouths, but puckered them up so that it was hard to take a drink.”

Corrigan roared at Lucent. “And it is all your fault.” With that he pounced on Lucent and went for his throat. Lucent dodged just in time, but lost an ear in the process. Lucent landed on Corrigan’s back and chomped down on the back of his neck. Corrigan took off running and howling, but Lucent chomped the side of Corrigan’s neck and hung on for the wild ride. He had hit the jugular vein and his mouth filled with blood and blood was flowing behind the two of them like a red stream of horizontal fireworks. Corrigan started going slower and slower from the loss of blood. When he finally stopped, Lucent ran back to the dark animals and Corrigan let out a blood-curdling howl. He continued to howl until a pack of wolves came running up.

The biggest of the wolves was only ? the size of Corrigan and said, “We heard your call, Corrigan, what’s wrong?”

Corrigan said, “ Juniper, you have to take revenge on Lucent the fox. Look what he did to me.” And as Juniper looked down, he saw the grave damage that Corrigan had suffered. “Yes sir, we live to follow your command.” With that the pack of wolves took off to take revenge on Lucent and Corrigan, twitching from the loss of blood to his nerves and muscles, fell asleep for the final time.

After arriving home, Lucent, being the sly fox that he was, started gathering up all of the foxes in the surrounding area. Bobby Bear had been listening to Lucent and said, “You want I should get the bears together, too? That Corrigan is a bad one. He bit my butt. I want to help you, Lucent.”

“Yeah, you do that, Bobby. The wolves are coming and we need to be prepared. Do you know how many wolves are in Corrigan’s pack?” Lucent asked.

“I think 5, no, 5 plus 4. Yeah, that’s right.” Bobby said. “I’ll go get my friends, Lucent.”

“Good,” Lucent said and went to locate the rest of the dark animal leaders to gather up their kind.

He located Randy Rattlesnake first. Lucent explained the situation to Randy and asked for his help in stopping the wolves. “We need to be a united front, Randy, so that we can defeat the wizards and their ass- kissing creatures. Now, can we depend on you?”

“Oh, we are with you alright. We can’t help with the wolves, because our venom won’t stop them before they slaughter us, but you can count on us for anything else.” Randy said.

Lucent glared at him, jumped up on a loose overhanging boulder, causing it to tumble over on Randy. It crushed the rattlesnake, effectively getting across Lucent’s message to the other rattlesnakes who were watching that he expected complete compliance. As quick as a wink, they all found their home-holes and slithered out of reach of Lucent. He snarled and decided not to waste time on them, and went to the next creatures on his list.

Within an hour of Corrigan’s death, Lucent had gotten his dark creature army together. It wouldn’t be obvious, at first glance, to anyone coming down the path, specifically the wolf-pack, but there were dark creatures in the trees, hiding behind bushes, and under the dirt. There were crafty red foxes in every conceivable place, poised for attack.

It wasn’t ten minutes before the wolfpack showed up, growling and snarling, ready for action. Bobby bear swiped Juniper wolf with his massive paw, knocking him off of his feet. 20 rats in the Rifferty family swarmed Magnum wolf, biting and scratching him all over and he took off for the hills, not knowing what hit him. Meanwhile, Juniper jumped back up and with his lightning quick reflexes, bit Bobby on the butt. Bobby yelled and roared and sat on Juniper’s back and was taken for a wild ride, all the while slapping him first on the right cheek and then on the left cheek with those huge paws until Juniper ran into a tree and knocked himself out.

Two copperheads dropped out of an oak tree and bit hairy old Tortuga wolf on the eyeballs. They dropped to the ground as he ran off, howling. The copperheads snickered to themselves, knowing Tortuga hadn’t got long to live, especially the way his heart was racing. The venom would get to his heart before he could get home.

The other 6 wolves stood bewildered, watching this going on. Malcolm wolf said, “I never expected to find such a well organized attack.” As he and the others tried to decide what to do, he suddenly had 200 black widow spiders crawling up his legs and over his back and over his head!. The leader of the black widows said, “Attack, bite and they did in unison. The rest of the wolves didn’t wait to find out what their fate would be and took off like scalded dogs for the high country.

Juniper woke up and said, “Wait for me, guys,” and ran limping behind the rest. Lucent and his gang of dark creatures watched Malcolm writhing and lumps of poison rising up all over his body and laughed. Lucent warned the dark creatures, “If any of you get any idea of turning on me, remember today,” and laughed maniacally.
