Nogdorf took out his original wand and set to work. He spoke to Lester as he worked, “Now, we need to teach the dark creatures a lesson, Lester. They are hindering your Herbal Wizard schooling, so we need to help them to realize that they can’t win.” With that, Nogdorf cleared off an area about ? mile from the garden and began to make an infirmary.
There were 3 sets of bunkbeds and each of the beds contained a hurt animal. There was a dove with a broken wing, a rabbit with a huge sore on his belly, a deer with an amputated leg, a mouse with burnt whiskers, a porcupine with bent quills and a squirrel on an IV who appeared to be in a coma.
Lester asked, hurriedly, “Won't the dark creatures be here soon? How are we going to heal all of the sick animals before the dark creatures get here? Shouldn’t we protect these sick creatures by putting them back further from the road where the dark creatures can’t reach them?”
“Calm down, Lester. These creatures are not alive. They are made with soybeans, so they are edible, but the dark creatures will be sorry they have eaten them afterwards.” Nogdorf got a mischievous smile on his face. “We are going to attract the dark creatures in here with the fake animals. Why, they will think they have found the best meal of the week. Shh! I hear them. Let’s get out of this area and hide where we can watch.”
Nogdorf tapped his wand on Lester and then on himself and they were instantly up in a tree across the path from the fake infirmary. Lester looked terrified, as he had never been up in a tree before. Nogdorf said, “Relax, just keep your paws on the limb and it is just like being down on the ground. Look over there.” As Lester looked he could see trees moving toward him, almost imperceptibly. He strained his eyes, to make sure he was seeing what he thought he was. Inch by inch, the trees crept forward.
As the first tree reached the fake infirmary, Lester heard a muffled sound. It sounded like talking, but was too quiet for him to understand. All of a sudden, rang out, “Quiet, dummy. They will hear you!” And then, Lester heard a big gasp. Corrigan said, “Why didn’t you tell me you found their hospital? Everybody, breakfast is served.”

Nogdorf and Lester just watched and listened as pandemonium broke out. The animals dropped their trees and moved toward the infirmary. Bobby Bear walked straight over to the deer, but before he could chow down on it, Corrigan snarled, “Forget it bear; that deer is for me. Find your own food. Bobby Bear roared and swiped at Corrigan with his large paw. Corrigan jumped out of the way and bit Bobby on the rear end! Bobby roared in pain and sat on Corrigan. While they fought it out, the rest of the animals each started feasting on the fake animals. Corrigan finally knocked out Bobby and he started feasting on the deer.
Lester heard the dark creatures crying out in pain and then saw a curious sight. Each of the animals were running in circles, looking for water, but their mouths were all pursed like they were trying to play a trumpet. “What?...” Lester started saying, when Nogdorf interrupted him, saying, “I put ghost pepper in each of the soybean animals and also unripe persimmons, which causes the puckering of the mouth.”
Nogdorf and Lester were laughing so loud and all of the dark creatures were crying and screaming, running in circles. “This won’t cause any permanent damage to any of them, but will definitely make them think twice about attacking us again any time soon.”
After the dark creatures fled back to their part of the woods, Nogdorf said to Lester, “We must get a new batch of cookies made to take care of your wife until we have gotten the permanent solution figured out.”
Lester said, “We are totally out of cookies and we can’t have anymore ready until tomorrow. What will we do for tonight?”
“You will take home some of the mixture and use part of it to make a tea that will work just fine,” Nogdorf said.
The medical team started off for the sweet smelling garden and got Bonita’s mixture started. While they worked, Nogdorf explained the next mission. They put Bonita’s medicine on to cook and took a walk close by.
