Today is another day of being an assistant teacher, Millenia class is going to start in half an hour, so I woke up and prepared my day early in the morning
When I entered the academy, I could see a lot of students chatting around in the hallway, and some were already preparing their things for the first period of class
I probably should go to Millenia's office, given that her class is going to start, but I can’t help going into Noah's office first, checking whether he has returned yet
But then again, because I also wanted to see Alias first before working with that young demoness
As I kept walking toward the teacher's office area, the bustling hallway sounds slowly faded in the background, and somehow, I felt the academy a lot emptier than usual?
When I arrived at Noah's office front door
I could hear some noise from inside the office, but it's not clear enough to recognize it
Had Noah finally come back from his latest adventure?
When I knocked on the door a few times, I could somewhat hear Maya's voice through the door
Then slowly, I open it, “Excuse me.”
When I open the door fully, it surprises me a bit
Because in the room, there’s Maya, Alias, and instead of Noah, it's Rheya somehow…
“Should I leave…?”
“No, rather it’s perfect timing.” Maya slowly walked into one of the bookcases and picked something
But Rheya was just standing there, shaking her head while massaging it
Is she in a bad mood or something?
Pitter-patter
Alias, oblivious to the tension in the room, slowly walks toward me with one hand holding a sandwich
“Kaleth, busy?” Alias is tugging on my sleeves while still munching on her sandwich
Squatting down to her eye level, “Mhm, I’m busy at the moment, let's play later, okay?” Then Alias nods a few times
Maya, after reading some archive, slowly turned her gaze to mine
I couldn't help but tilt my head in confusion
“Won’t Kaleth be enough for them?” Maya then closed the archive and put it back into its place before turning her gaze to Rheya
“Perhaps he is, but is he capable of doing it? Who’s going to take responsibility when something happens?” Rheya frowns a bit while answering it
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
Wait a minute? Who’s doing what?
I didn’t consent to whatever they’re talking about
“It's fine, I will take responsibility for him.”
What…? Am I hearing it wrong?
“Shouldn’t you trust him a bit?” Maya continues before she sits down at Noah's seat
What are they even talking about?
Rheya then let out a sigh and walked toward the door. “It's class III-A.” Then she leaves, without even looking back
Then I walked toward the usual seat of Alias and made her sit there before looking at Maya
Then she smiled a bit at me and said, “We talked about what we should do for class III-A.”
“A lot of teachers went somewhere and left us with only a few teachers, so we need to replace some of the class teachers for today, because the one who should teach the class is gone.”
Huh?
Now, after she said that, I finally realized why I felt the academy was feeling emptier than usual
“Where did all of them go?” But then Maya just shook her head
“Long story short, we had to replan and reschedule all of the available teachers to fill the empty classroom for now.”
“That’s why your name came into the previous conversation, it's just how lacking we currently are.”
That’s strange
How come a lot of the teachers suddenly have the same plan?
It’s not like there’s a Christmas discount or some sort of thing happening, right?
I mean, if there is a Christmas discount, I would also like to participate.
“Why didn't you decline their leave for whatever reason they had?”
“I wish I could, but they had a royal decree with them, so I had no choice but to let them be.”
Weird… Was something intercontinental happening right now?
I tried to remember through Kaleth's memory, but found nothing
“Something important happened then?” As I take another seat near Alias
“Perhaps? I don’t know.” Then Maya came back with her usual expression, with that subtle smile of hers
But somehow, I can’t seem to trust her word
Someone would tell me that I might have trust issues, but then again, it could just be my mind playing its weird trick
“And after discussing with Rheya, we decided to let you handle class III-A. For today, they have Metamagic class, it's still around basic theory, since they haven't reached the fourth grade yet.”
“And I do believe you could do it.” Then Maya smiled a bit more than her usual smile
How could you have such blind faith in me?
Well, I am the best graduate from the Metamagic major, but still…
Sighing, it seems I have no choice other than to accept it
“Alright, are there any archives or notes of the teacher? What material was covered in the last class? I couldn’t just blindly guess it.”
Then, slowly, an archive labeled Metamagics III-A was flying toward me slowly before it fell exactly on my lap and made a soft thud sound
“Right, I forgot to tell you that exactly the class you’re going to teach is starting in a few minutes”
And then, a loud bell sound could be heard, the sign of the first period had just begun
“Or… It's just started” Maya then gives a shy smile because of her miscalculation
While standing from my seat, I let out a heavy sigh and patted Alias's head once, “Guess I should start running then”
When I reach the door knob
“Good luck,” Maya said with that usual smile of hers
“Well, I will at least try my best” Then I closed the door behind me
After all of this trouble, I expect some money, definitely, otherwise I’m going to protest in front of the academy tomorrow morning

Finally, I arrived at class III-A after jogging a bit from Noah’s office
While heading here, I was peeking into the archive for a bit. The last class was about chain magic, which was still only in the explanation step
Then, when I open the grand door in front of me, the class, which had been bustling with voices, slowly fell silent
I could feel everyone was staring at me
Sorry, but I won’t feel nervous with only a bunch of brats staring at me
Slowly walk toward the teacher's podium, and then turn my gaze straight to the student
“Hello everyone, my name is Kaleth, I’m a substitute teacher for now, filling in for Mr. Haelm in today's class.”
“Mr. Haelm has some important matters to attend to, hence why I’m standing here”
“Before we start the class, are there any questions? If so, raise your hand”
From my quick observation, this class is filled with noble kids. Well, it's pretty much expected, given this is class A
I could see some students were glancing and whispering to each other, also another expected reaction, given that their usual teacher was replaced by a random individual
Then, someone actually raised his hand, a boy with white hair and yellow eyes with a confident face, “I’m sorry if this seems rude, but are you really capable of teaching us?”
Any citizen of Arnentia would know who this was, or rather, anyone who has this kind of feature, white hair, and yellow eyes
Arnentia bloodline
Was he the last son of the king? I don’t really know his name, though
But he sure does ask a pretty good question
With a little bit of trickery, I enchant my vision to see his badge
Bastian As Arnentia
“Alright then, Bastian, or should I call you ‘your highness’? Since the last class lesson was just an explanation of chain magic, could you manifest a third-layered chain magic then?”
“Or perhaps it's too hard? Then, how about demonstrating a second-layer chain magic using two opposing elements?”
Crossing my arms lazily while looking at each of the present students
“Well, not just Bastian, if anyone could demonstrate it in front of the class, I would let every single one of you skip this class.”
“Don’t bother lying to me, I read Mr. Haelm's latest notes, and in the note itself, he already explained even until the third-layered magic chain.”
Was I being too harsh?
I kind of feel bad, but I need to do this so all of you know in which position I’m currently standing in
Sometimes you need to teach kids who are the boss so they can listen and learn without underestimating the one who teaches them
The class was dead silent
“Or should I pick one from all of you?” This strategy often worked back on Earth, and a lot of teachers use this simple trick
But honestly, I don’t know if this is going to work here or not…
Then I see someone raising their hand slowly and shyly in the front corner of the student
Guess it's still working, despite being in a different world, huh?
