Chapter 19: Getting the books out in the open

Nanny Mary then spent a few minutes thinking, did she know Shiori-sama? Surely she knew her, she was famous as one of the most prominent princesses of high society! There was no way she didn't know of the magnificent Shiori-sama!

Perhaps... perhaps she even knew where she had gone to vacation! If Nanny Mary knew, then she could tell Trixie, and Trixie could in turn ask Papa to go on vacation there!

That way Shiori-sama could see Trixie and be happy with her! She would be so happy when she saw how Papa had finally revealed his full might as the King of White!

"Do you know where Shiori-sama is?!?!?" Trixie asked at once, she didn't even ask if Nanny Mary knew her or not, it was obvious she would know of her, Shiori-sama was that important!

"...I do know some stuff that isn't available to the public yes..." Nanny Mary said in a measured tone, as if ensuring her true emotions didn't surface, Trixie did her best to look through the toybox to see if she could peek at something, but there was nothing to see. Nanny Mary was not a Toy after all.

Trixie could only see through Toys.

"Where did she go on her vacations?" Trixie asked, literal stars shining on her eyes at the prospect of finally finding Shiori-sama. She had said that if Trixie was able to find her, then she would give her one free request. Trixie could ask her anything!

Anything that she wanted and Shiori-sama would fulfill said request!

Originally she was going to ask for more time with Papa to play with. But since Papa was busy now that he was showing the world his might as the King of White, she couldn't ask for that!

So she would ask for Shiori-sama to never leave her behind again!

It would be perfect! They would be able to play all day, eat cakes, drink Tea and go to balls and do all the things that good girls did!

"... She is..." Nanny Mary said as if thinking what to say, perhaps it was a hard to reach place? It wouldn't matter, Trixie would open the toychest all wide open if she needed to, she would get to where Shiori-sama was! "In a place where only grown up girls can go."

  ...Dang it!

"Trixie is a grown up girl!" Trixie said standing up from the bed and stomping the floor as strongly as she could, "Trixie can go there if she wants!"

"I don't doubt that," Nanny Mary said, shaking her head, "But Shiori-sama already told you where she went, and since you don't know. That means that you aren't a big enough girl yet."

Dang it again, electric bogaloo! (whatever a bogaloo was, Trixie didn't know, but her favorite Jpop singer used that one in their latest interview, so Trixie assumed it fit the circumstances)

"But you know?" Trixie asked, "Even though Shiori-sama only told Trixie where she was going before the extreme hide and seek?"

That was probably proof that as soon as Trixie was a bigger girl she would find out, but she didn't want to wait!

"Yes," Nanny Mary said nodding, "Most of the grown up girls know. And while a few may lie to you about it... You will find out naturally when enough time passes, so you don't have to worry about that."

Really? Trixie knew some people would lie to her about that, a few had said that Shiori-sama didn't like her and that was why she didn't told her where she went.

Trixie made sure that those Toys never said mean things again of course!

"Okay." But for now, Trixie would nod her head at that, she would wait, eat her veggies, and grow a strong and cute grown-up girl!

"For now, does anyone else bother you besides the former librarian and the head maid?" Nanny Mary asked, a weird squiggle materializing above her hand, that one felt... dangerous. "If you tell me their names I will put those names on this Magic Circle and they will not bother you again."

  Gnuu....

"The... The baddies?" Trixie asked with some trepidation, she didn't want to name them, they somehow always knew when Trixie was talking about them! They always arrived saying that!

"Yes," Nanny Mary said nodding, "Any bad people you say their name and what they did. This magic will tell us if they were bad or not and if they were bad, should they come near I'll know. And I will in turn deal with them."

Nanny Mary... was saying that, but could she do it?

She had said that only Papa could stand up to her before, but Trixie hadn't known if that was true or not. So for now she started with a few that she knew Nanny Mary already knew of.

"The Librarian," Trixie said their name and sure enough a piece of paper materialized above the magic circle with that name and a small drawing of them, just as Trixie remembered, but... that hadn't come from her toybox had it? Trixie didn't know, "They didn't let Trixie read the books and always scolded her, even if no one else was in the library."

The piece of paper fell into the magical circle and it burned red as it turned into ashes.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

"Hmm.... I got a partial mana record from that, so sure enough he left an impression on you." Nanny Mary said nodding, "That will be enough for me to detect him, do you have more people?"

"Is he around?" Trixie asked looking around, as if he would materialize into the room any second, she didn't know if he could or would do that after all, they were powerful and tricky like that! They always arrived when Trixie least expected them!

"Not within the compounds." Nanny Mary said, "Or not him at least."

Trixie let a sigh of relief at that, she had always feared that they would be around but hidden.

"Then the next one is the head maid!" Trixie said quickly, while Nanny Mary was still strong, "She always scolds Trixie, no matter what she does it's always wrong! She doesn't let Trixie eat candies and sends her to pick up water for everything!"

Trixie hated going for water, it made her dress wet and it made it hard for her to kneel to smell the cute flowers! Since it would dirty the dress! The name of the head maid (That is to say, a paper with the words head maid on it) materialized above the magical circle.

The name fell into the circle and... burned yellow-ish red.

"This one seems to be halfway through malice, but not entirely." Nanny Mary said nodding, "I'll record the mana signal and keep a lookout anyway."

"Then you will keep them away from Trixie?" Trixie asked with some hope, "They aren't affected by Trixie's toybox because they aren't toys. So she can't do anything about them!"

"Yes, I will make sure they stay away from Trixie." Nanny Mary said nodding, "But in exchange, you will need to be a good girl and pay attention to all my lessons and listen to me okay?"

  Trixie could do that!

She was the best at listening in the lessons!

"So whose lessons will they be for?" Trixie asked nodding, she needed to know whose classes she was going to listen in so she could prepare all that she needed! She didn't have work to do nowadays, so it would be easier, but even so. Trixie needed to prepare!

"Yours." Nanny Mary answered, "They are your lessons Trixie. I am your Nanny after all, it is my work to ensure you are taught well and within reason."

Hers? Trixie's Lessons? She would get lessons?

"Ah." Trixie said as panic started to bloom into her brain juices, "Wawawawawawawawawa."

She didn't know what to do! She had never gotten actual lessons! She had attended Shiori-sama's lessons, yes, but those were for Shiori-sama; she didn't know half of the things they spoke about!

"Exactly," Nanny Mary said nodding at Trixie, as if she knew the panic that was blooming within Trixie, no wait. She was a witch, she of course knew it!

"First lesson," Nanny Mary said without letting Trixie prepare mentally, she didn't even have her notebook to scribble the lesson! What was she supposed to do?!?!?!? "If an adult or someone older than you tries to scold you, you must tell your father or me immediately, we will see what the issue is and decide if they are in the right or in the wrong."

  Huh?

But... If Trixie was getting scolded, then she was in the wrong. How could the scolders be in the wrong? That was not how it worked!

"Your answer?" Nanny Mary asked, what answer?

"Trixie... will do her best...?" Trixie asked confused.

"No," Nanny Mary said shaking her head, "You must answer 'I understand' if you understand, and if not. You must ask questions till you understand."

  Trixie didn't understand.

"How can they be in the wrong?" Trixie asked confused, "They know better than Trixie."

"Not because they are adults or older means they are more smart." Nanny Mary said sighing, "Sometimes adults make mistakes too. Like Arthur, he said something that scared you. But he didn't mean it, and he apologized, remember?"

Trixie remembered, that was the first time a grown up had apologized to Trixie after all.

"So... They can be wrong when scolding me?" Trixie asked surprised, so far the only people that wer wrong when speaking to Trixie were the toys! But those were Toys, they weren't people, so it was normal that they could be wrong.

"Yes," Nanny Mary answered, nodding, "So if you don't know, you must ask them to explain why you are in the wrong, or ask your father or me."

  Trixie could do that.

"I understand," Trixie nodded in understanding, "So if they scold me for eating grass Trixie can tell them that to explain why Trixie is in the wrong! And when they can't convince me, Trixie snitches on them to Nanny Mary, and she scolds them!"

"...Trixie, is it right for you to eat grass?" Nanny Mary asked with a knowing smile on her face.

"...No." Trixie answered deflating a little.

"Why is it wrong?" Nanny Mary asked, her smile still on her face.

"Because it will make Trixie's tummy ache." Trixie knew that, she had gotten a tummy ache the last time she ate grass... But she was hungy! The head maid hadn't let her eat her dinner!

"So if someone scolds you for eating grass...." Nanny Mary said pointing to the window, straight to the yard where there was that grass that Trixie had eaten before.

"They are right..." Trixie admitted her folly. "But if Trixie is eating grass then it's because Trixie is hungy!"

"If you are hungry, you ask one of the maids for food. If none are near you ask me for food, and if I am not around, you ask your father for food." Nanny Mary pointed the answer to her dilemma.

Right, they had maids now that Papa was wielding his authority as the King of White...

"I'll ask the maids or Nanny Mary for yumyums then." Trixie decided that, she wouldn't ask Papa, he needed his yumyums.

"Good, that is how it should be." Nanny Mary said nodding at Trixie, she liked this Nanny, so far it was the best one she had gotten!

Then pulling out some small books from... her purse?

Nanny Mary put them on the table seven books, Trixie knew these books!

"Your first homework will be picking one of these," Trixie looked the illustrations of each of them, these were her favorites! The story that she loved the most and the one that Shiori-sama told her and Papa told her before going to sleep.

"The Daughter of Evil!" Trixie said jumping on her spot, it was the full saga of her favorite book series. Her favorite singer group even had done a cover of these.

"I should have guessed this would be the one picked." Nanny Mary said nodding and picking up the booklet in question, the cover had the image of a lady of high nobility, albeit only her silhouette. "What does it say here?"

  ...

"Trixie doesn't know." Trixie said shaking her head, "Trixie doesn't know how to read."

That was one of the few weaknesses of Trixie! Words! Them words! She wanted to learn how to read them moonrunes, but the normal words were too hard for her to understand!

It couldn't be helped, Trixie was only a girl.

"The." Nanny Mary said pointing with her finger to the first three letters on the cover, "Daughter."

And she carried on to the next word. The that had the 'Haaaah' face on it.

"Isn't that the :D face?" Trixie pointed at the first D, "That's the :D face without the eyes!"

  Trixie wouldn't be deceived!

"Nanny Mary is lying!" Trixie pointed out the deception for the whole world to see!

"This is indeed one of the parts that are used as a letter emoji, in this case, they use the letter D." Nanny Mary said pointing with her finger to the D in the mysthical words of the cover, "But it is also a letter, in this case this one is the letter D, which is used with all the words that starts as such."

Then Nanny Mary went ahead and said several words that started with the letter D, so many words! Trixie couldn't have guessed there would be so many of such examples!

As many that Trixie couldn't get around to naming them all! So she would leave it at that!

"Then the last word would be 'Evil', and all together it reads..." Nanny Mary said highlighting the three words with her finger for Trixie.

"The Daughter of Evil!" Trixie said cheering at that, "Trixie likes it, she hopes that the next book shows how they recover from the evil scheme they felt upon!"

Nanny Mary made an awkward smile, why did everyone that Trixie said that made the same face?

"Right, so. Want me to read it?" Nanny Mary said opening the booklet, "This will be a lesson so you need to pay attention, I will ask questions when we are done."

"Le gasp!" Trixie gasped dramatically, "Okay!"

But didn't mind it, she liked the story, so she would ace the exam! There was no way that Nanny Mary could ask her things she didn't know about this story!

Trixie had heard it told many times by Shiori-sama!

And Papa had also read a few times the story too!

  It would be awesome!
