Chapter 60
Reunited with an old friend
Louis:
When I got the call from Mom saying Maurice had suddenly collapsed. My first thought was he must have got attacked because Maurice never has done anything spontaneous in his life. As I walk into the room, I hear a very familiar voice that I haven't heard in over a year telling her that Maurice is mentally, physically and magically depleted and just needs a few days of sleep to fully recuperate. I thought my ears and eyes were deceiving me. It was none other than the chief surgeon and head of the hospital I worked at. He was also my mentor Dr. Patrick King. I can't lie. I wanted to faint at the sight of him. He looked at me and said Louis, are you available tonight for several operations removing tracking devices? I told him of course. He told me to lead the way as I was leading him and the others to the clinic. I asked Pop Pop and Uncle Ashura if they could drag Maurice along. I called Anne to come help us. We would be very busy for hours and only had a small window before Maurice's anti tracking spell wore off.
As we worked through the night Dr King told me what had happened to him. He said he had just walked out of his patient's room. He asked me if I remembered the one who had been in a horrible boating accident, Natalie. I told him I do remember the person very vividly. The woman he was talking about was pushed out of a speed boat by her mate. He had rejected her and tried to kill her by pushing her out of the back of the boat. The poor woman lost her arm and needed a metal plate attached to her skull because the blade from the motor also cut into her skull causing damage. He nodded his head and continued. He says he just walked out of her room and he was no longer in the hospital. He looked around and he was in a cell with no way to escape.
The patient Natalie that he was asking about is his mate. I was the only one in the hospital who knew this detail.
I told him she had recovered but had suffered memory loss. Her ex mate had been executed because there were too many witnesses and he was not a beloved Beta as his Alpha made him out to be. Due to the condemning evidence against his Beta. Alpha Benjamin Franks had thrown her out of his pack. I had talked her into joining our pack. He looked at me with a surprised expression and asked if she was here. I told him yes but we need to complete the surgeries and get him on the table as soon as possible before the anti tracking spells wore off. He agreed and as we finished up, he asked if I had a plan to get rid of the trackers. I told him what I had done with the 3 children's trackers. He laughed but I told him getting rid of 47 would be a problem. I didn't have any idea of what to do with all of them. We both finished stitching up our last patients. It was Dr. King's turn on the operation table. Before I administered the anesthesia to him. I tell him we will figure out what to do with all the trackers when he wakes up. I link Lolly and Dad to come to the clinic. I have an idea that just might work. I just need to wait for Dr. King to wake up.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
As we wait, I explain to Lolly and Dad how Dr. King ended up being held captive. Another surprise portal attack. I tell them that the other prisoners haven't said anything nor do we know who they are yet. They all seem to be in shock and should maybe get Rachael and Thomas here to help them. If what Brenton said is true about the torture and rapes that happened, and I have no doubt he was being truthful, then theses people might not even realize they are being saved. They may think this is another set up or trick to test their loyalty. There is no telling what is going through those poor peoples minds. Dad agrees and also says we should see if any of our members are interested in becoming psychiatrists and psychologists so we can have more hybrids in the mental health field. I say that's a horrible choice of words. He said he knows but there is no telling how many people are being held captive and most would probably prefer someone who has been through trauma like themselves. I ask if he is suggesting Wayne and Brenton. He says yes but also Sophie-Ann as a doctor for children. I think that is an excellent idea but it will take time for them to become doctors. I told him. He says he has an idea and we will discuss it later. Ok. I say.
I go check on the other patients. They are waking up. I ask Lolly and Dad to help me talk to them when they are fully coherent and can understand we don't want to hurt them.
Dr. King finally wakes up and helps us explain to the others that they are now safe and no one is going to hurt them. Once everyone seems calm, we tell them we need to contact their families to let them know they are safe and free to visit but they will need to stay at the clinic for monitoring, wound care, dehydration and to gain a normal weight. Everyone seems to understand and starts giving us their names, ranks, packs and how to contact their families. They also tell us they will help us anyway they can. The anti tracking spells are about to wear off. I ask Dr. King and Lolly if freezing the trackers and smashing them with a hammer or stomping them would destroy them. Dr. King says there is only one way to find out and that's to try it. Lolly freezes one and crushes it under her foot. The light stops blinking green. It stops blinking altogether. Lolly freezes all of them and we smash and stomp them all. We were just about finished when Uncle Ashura joined us. He helps smash the last few. He opens a portal and throws the smashed bits inside. He turns and says just in case they are still able to activate them, the pieces were thrown in the belly of an Orca otherwise known as a Killer Whale off the coast of Antarctica. They will have a heck of a time finding 47 people alive in that freezing ocean. I go and check on Maurice. He is still in a coma-like state. His vital signs are normal and so is his brain function. That is a good sign that he will wake up but we don't know when that will be. Anne exercises his legs and arms and turns him over. This needs to be done every 30 minutes. Our family has decided to take shifts so everyone will be able to sleep. Thank goodness for our huge family. Nick is the most rested out of all of us so he comes in and relieves Anne and myself so we can finally sleep after an exhausting night of surgeries. Dr. King stays in the clinic under my care as he too is exhausted plus he has wounds and is near starvation. How he was able to manage doing half of the surgeries is beyond me. It did feel like old time working with him again. I have missed my friend.
