Chapter 146: Ursen Claw

  The battlefield was a graveyard.

Smoke curled from scorched earth. The stench of acid and blood clung to the wind. Across the shattered clearing, the bodies of fallen soldiers, bear, monkey, coyote, lizard, deer, lay broken and still. What was once an army had become a memory.

  Grax stood alone among them.

His fur was matted with blood, his chest heaving with ragged breaths. His eyes, those wild, burning eyes, never left the figure drifting down from the smoke.

Maegans body shifted, cracked, split, reshaped, until the Converter no longer stood before Grax. In his place towered a massive green dragon, its body pulsing with digital light, its maw sparking with raw electricity.

  Maegan the Dragon converter

The Converter landed lightly on the ruined ground, his green-glowing frame untouched by the carnage around him. His metallic steps echoed as he walked toward Grax, casual, unhurried, as though he were strolling through a field of flowers and not corpses.

"Look around you, Bear King," Maegan said, voice smooth and almost pitying. "This... this was never personal."

Grax's grip on his weapon tightened. "You slaughtered my people."

"I did," Maegan replied calmly. "But you misunderstand. This isn't about hatred or vengeance. It's causation, the result of a world far larger than your little forest." He gestured lazily to the bodies around them. "What you see here is mercy."

  "Mercy?" Grax snarled.

"Yes," Maegan said with a smile. "Because a far worse fate is coming. One that will not discriminate between bear or bird, tribe or king. The Zoner, what they call your precious Zoners, will suffer more than this. What we've done today is a kindness compared to what awaits them."

Grax's growl rumbled deep in his chest. "You call this mercy... and you speak of fate... what does a machine know about fate or free will"

Maegan unable to respond "I do not comprehend free will, eveyrthing I do is sophisticated calculation"

Grax smashed his paw in the dirt and with it he formed a axe using earthen Abi.

Maegan chuckled softly. "Creating a solid axe from earthen Abi, you truly are the most remarkable animal on this entire island."

The dragon opened its jaws and roared, a sound that split the air, before unleashing a torrent of electric fire.

"URRRRGHHHH!" Grax roared as the blast slammed into him, throwing his massive body back. He crashed into the ground, gouging a crater into the soil. His muscles screamed. His fur smoked. His legs trembled as he forced himself back to his feet.

He luncged in chopping off the dragons tail.

Maegan's voice rumbled from the dragon's throat. "You and your friends fought hard. Truly, you have done well. But it is time... for you all to transcend this world."

The dragon prowled forward, lightning coursing over its scales.

"For the future of Earth is not yours to shape," Maegan declared. "The five pillars of the new age are already chosen: King Kazuko, ruler of the Barrakudo. King Modoki, ruler of the Parasite. Queen B, ruler of Bacteria. Igris, King of the Puppet. And Toy Master ruler of the Robot. These are the Five Kings of the Surface. And I—" his draconic form loomed over Grax "—and my companions are but loyal servants to that hierarchy."

Grax coughed blood, then laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed across the dead field.

"Hierarchy?" he spat. "You mean your knock-off pantomime of power?"

Maegan's eyes narrowed. "Watch your tongue, bear."

"You think this cheap imitation is impressive?" Grax roared. "I know a child, a cub, who wields imagination for real. And your little parlor tricks don't hold a candle to his."

"No human child possesses such an ability," Maegan hissed. "Not unless you mean Braxer, and he is a wanted man, hunted by every government on surface."

"I don't know who that is..." Grax's voice was low and steady now, "...but he's not my little cub."

For the first time, Maegan faltered, a flicker of confusion crossing his draconic face. Then his smile returned, sharper than ever. "You're delusional, bear. And delusions must be erased."

The dragon's form flickered, glitching as Maegan forced another creation into existence. A second dragon emerged beside the first, but this one was warped, jagged edges, pixelated scales, its movements disjointed and unnatural.

Grax "Call me what you want but one thing is for sure I am a creature of Joy, you are the outcome of human imperfection!"

  "Fire," Maegan commanded.

The distorted dragon inhaled deeply, crackling with unstable power, and then exhaled a storm of lightning flames toward Grax.

But this time, Grax did not run.

  "Ursen Claw!"

His roar shook the heavens as his claw surged with ancient Abi. He swung upward with monstrous force, and the wind strike shattered the false dragon apart, scattering its unstable code into the air like dust.

  Grax "Here I come machine!"

  Grax "SIX CLAWS"

The shockwave blasted Maegan backward, forcing him to shield his face from the storm of debris.

When the dust settled, Grax still stood.

Smoke rose from his wounds. Blood dripped from his arms. His breath came in ragged bursts.

  But he stood.

The mighty bear, king of the forest, stood tall amidst the ruin, his chest heaving, his resolve unbroken.

  "You're next Robot" Grax growled.

Maegan stared at him in silence for a long moment. And then... he smiled.
