Leox slept like a baby on that first night. Until the sounds of the loudest voice he had ever heard woke him up from outside.
"Students of the Sixth Year, you have ten minutes to meet me out at the field. Anyone who's even a second late will be on cleaning duty!"
Leox rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He guessed that the voice belonged to the sixth-year professor.
Wasting no time at all, he cleaned himself up, put on his uniform and headed outside. He actually felt excitement. This would be his first day of education. However, yesterday's events still made him feel cautious.
Who was that tall boy with the sword who was able to smell my immortality? And why had he awakened already?
I wish that I had a sword himself.
Wasn't Collector Meruvio supposed to bring me one?
Swiftly he made his way outside. He seemed to be the only one out of their rooms. He made his way up the school field, and along the way, he spotted many younger students. Some as young as six, playing about and making noise with each other.
None of them seemed to pay attention to him. It seemed that wearing the school uniform no longer made him stand out as a peasant farmer.
...
He arrived in the field. Birds chirped, and the fourth world's sun beamed down on him. There was a man standing by the fountain. He seemed to be angry as he looked at the water, as though it were his enemy.
Strange.
As Leox made his way over he got a better look at him. He was an absolute giant, standing multiple heads taller than Leox. He might have been seven feet tall.
The man's hair was bright red, and his face was rugged and bearded. He wore a black suit, similar to Leox's own uniform, except his bulged with his muscles. He also had a black glove on only one of his hands.
"Hmm?" The man groaned as he looked down at Leox. "You must be the new kid. I'm going to have fun breaking you."
"..."
What?
Isn't this just supposed to be preparation for the academy. Why does this giant want to break me!
The man must have noticed that Leox was feeling on edge, because soon afterwards he let out a bellowing laugh.
"I'm only joking, little man. You arrived on time, even before the others. I like you already."
Leox sighed and let out a nervous laugh. Then, he checked the man's Overview.

Two ranks above mine, but still below Gabriel.
"Sir, could I please ask for your name?"
"Call me Professor Breaker. And you're Leox the Farmer, right? I've heard about your premature awakening. A rare case around here. Especially for someone who isn't a noble."
True, but there was something even more rare about Leox. He could not die.
Before they could continue talking, the other sixth-year students filtered out into the field, forming a line in front of the professor.
Immediately Leox felt all nineteen eyes land on him. There was a mixture of different expressions on the faces of students when they spotted a newcomer.
Leox noticed the boy from yesterday who could smell his immortality. To his surprise, he seemed to care about Leox the least.
The funny orange-haired boy with the scarred eye was also there. He came and stood next to Leox, as if they were friends. Leox looked at him, and the boy flashed him a wink.
"Ahem, you're lucky you all made it here on time. I would hate to have to break any of you in front of the new student."
Breaker's voice boomed as he pointed towards Leox. It was his way of introducing him.
"This is Leox the Farmer, a new student in the sixth year. Treat him as you would any other student."
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
The children seemed as though they wanted to whisper to each other about Leox, but their fear of Breaker stopped them.
Leox simply stood there, not knowing what to say. Luckily, the Professor swiftly moved on.
"As always, we will start the day with light sparring before breakfast. With Leox here, we now have an even number of students. Everyone find a partner."
No one had told me about this...
Leox stood in the field, looking around cluelessly as everyone made their way over to familiar partners. To his side, he noticed the orange-haired boy looking at him, he seemed to be ready to ask to partner with him.
Then he felt someone else tap his shoulder from behind him. He turned around and looked up into the face of the tall boy with the sword.
As all the other students saw this, they started whispering amongst themselves. Even Breaker had a raised brow and a smirk of amusement on his face.
"Look, Donn has challenged the newbie..."
"Poor guy. He's gonna have a rough time here."
Leox heard the whispers, but chose to ignore them. He also made sure not to show fear on his face. If he made himself look like a victim, he would be treated like one.
After all, he was Immortal. What was there to be scared of?
"I'm glad you came over," Leox spoke first, not allowing the boy to initiate the challenge. "Want to spar?"
Donn glared at Leox through the gaps in his dark hair and let out an arrogant breathe of air. Then he stepped back and drew his sword.
Leox's eyes went wide. Surely that wasn't allowed? He looked over at Breaker, and the giant professor shrugged his shoulders.
"In the academy, you'll stand face to face with death many times. Anything goes in sparring, as long as your opponent leaves alive, and with all of their limbs."
Leox realised it then. This place could be hell. No wonder Collector Meruvio stressed the importance of him owning a sword.
Leox felt a shiver run through him.
Anything goes? Alright then.
Everyone had now started to face off with their partner. Professor Breaker saw this, and shouted.
"Begin!"
Donn and Leox circled each other, carefully watching the steps of their opponents. Leox tried not to focus on the sounds of combat taking place around him. If he wanted to win, he had to focus on Donn.
Donn's sword was short, and seemingly made from steel. Leox guessed that it was a standard weapon, and unlinked to any skill or magic.
However, the problem was that he did not have any information on Donn's classes or swordsmanship. He would be going into the fight completely blind.
"..."
He waited. Donn showed no signs of wanting to attack.
"Are you scared?" Leox taunted.
The boy didn't answer.
I guess that means I'll have to initiate, but how? If I rush in stupidly, I'll end up on the point of his blade.
That left him with only one option. To use the powers of his awakening. So far, Leox had only learned a usable skill from one of his classes. The Novice Water Mage class.
If he focused on his skill 'weave currents' he was filled with an understanding of its capabilities.
Weave currents allowed him to merge flowing water together, creating waves of varying sizes.
Since its designated class was still at a novice level, the skill was heavily limited. Yet still, there was a fountain at the centre of the field, positioned right behind his opponent. As water sprayed into the pool of water at the bottom, it created small currents.
Leox could feel a connection to them. All he had to do was reach out and take hold. So he outstretched his arm and clenched his fists.
The students around him who were watching wondered what he was doing. After all, none of them knew he was awakened, as they weren't awakened themselves.
Even Donn was uncertain of what his opponent was doing. He knew that Leox was an Awakened as he could view his overview, but there was no way for him to know which classes Leox owned just yet.
The fountain water erupted, creating a wave that rose even taller than Professor Breaker himself. The giant swiftly moved out of the way as he realised he was in the line of fire.
Leox pulled his hand back sharply, and the waves came crashing towards Donn.
Other students had seen the attack and dove out of the way, but Donn was too close. He would take the hit straight on.
Or at least that's what Leox thought.
Donn ignored the rushing water and kept his focus on his opponent. Then, he activated a skill. He became a blur for a moment, swiftly evading the crashing water that could have easily knocked the wind from his lungs.
Then Leox felt a sharp feeling between his ribcage.
"Huh?"
Donn reappeared right in front of him. Leox looked down and saw Donn's sword sticking into the gap between his ribs.
He coughed up blood.
The students all around him started to let out gasps. The professor didn't even seem worried about his students health, and instead was impressed with whatever skill Donn had just used.
It wasn't a strike that had the intention to kill. Leox couldn't even be killed even if it was.
But then he noticed something strange.
As the blade was still pierced inside of him, Donn let go with one hand and clenched his fist slyly before flicking his wrist upwards.
Leox let out a scream as the point of the blade seemed to move while still inside of him. He felt the sharp point travel until eventually... It ruptured his heart.
It wasn't a killing blow before. Now, it was.
It all happened in a second, but Donn had positioned himself in a way that no one knew what he had just done. To them, it looked like a small piercing to the chest.
Leox fell off the blade and landed on his back. By that point, Donn had manipulated the blade back to its normal shape.
Was that some sort of metal manipulation?
Is Donn an Earth Mage?
The answer didn't matter. For a moment, Leox was dead. He fell to his back and leaked blood onto the grass.
The students around them had stopped fighting. They said phrases like 'wasn't that too harsh?' and, 'he was just an unarmed newbie!'. Some of them were also still in shock at the fact that Leox was able to control the fountain water.
But Donn didn't respond. His eyes remained on Leox, squinting. A bead of sweat formed on his forehead, as if he was worried. Yet he just stood there.
Professor Breaker made his way over to the student and knelt by his bloody body. He looked at the wound in his chest, and could only see the damage done to the surface of his clothing.
He had no idea that Leox's heart had been pierced... He had no idea that his heart had already remade itself.
Leox's eyes shot open and he sat up to a seated position, gasping for air. Another death. At the hands of another student.
Professor Breaker placed a heavy hand on Leox's shoulder, trying to calm him down.
"Keep still boy, or you'll wiggle the blood out of your chest and die." He growled.
After a few moments, Leox had calmed down. He was finally able to gather his thoughts on the situation. As he did, his heart stopped as though it had been pierced again. He realised what had just happened.
He looked up at Donn to confirm his suspicions. The faint smile on the boys face told him everything that he needed to know. Somehow, he had known that Leox was some sort of immortal, and had used that opportunity to slyly confirm it to himself.
If Leox had reeked of death before, then he could only imagine what he smelled like now.
"Shit. You got me good." Leox said as he held onto his bleeding chest, trying to cover the fact that it had actually already healed. Luckily, the dried blood and his ripped clothes covered him up.
Donn sheathed his sword and leaned down close to Leox, whispering something in his ear that only he could hear.
"I know what you are."
