Don’t think this was just a simple slight.
On the surface, this was just that four-eyes getting back at him.
But the deeper layer beneath this scheme was an almost unsolvable attack on their team!
Just think about. Somebody said your share was handed to your team, but your team says they don’t have it.
Who will you believe?
Even if you believe in your team, how would you feel if you watch them eat in front of you?
How many will think “they’re eating my share”?
Once that seed of mistrust was planted, things will start falling apart.
Even long-lasting relationships might break down over a little distrust or misunderstanding, let alone a team of strangers you just met.
And there was no good way to resolve this!
It won’t work even if his teammates split their share with him. After all, that was simply transferring his dissatisfaction meter to his team.
Nobody will be happy to have less, especially since this is a matter of survival!
Sure, kindness existed, but how many can be selfless and not feel dissatisfied at all over having their own share given away?
Even if there isn’t any in the short term, in the long term, that unhappiness will build up until it explodes like a powder keg.
That’s why this scheme was so sinister. It was sowing discord at the pinnacle!
What an evil four-eyes. Yu Zhiye almost couldn’t help but applaud his ingeniousness.
If Yu Zhiye hasn’t read and watched his fair share of drama, perhaps he might’ve naively fallen right into the pit and still help count money after getting sold!
Fortunately, these eyes have seen through everything. Even better? He didn’t care!
Such low-level tricks… they only work on those bound by rules!
As for him? Well, since they don’t give it, then he’ll grab it tomorrow!
And he won’t feel guilty one bit.
If anything, he was technically just confiscating what they embezzled.
Besides, it’s only fair that Anomaly A’s share went into his own pocket to compensate for the fright that young man gave him yesterday. Right?
The little devil Yu Zhiye on his shoulder can’t help but cackle: Mwahaha! Mwahahahaha!
“Hey Steve, really don’t want to go demand an explanation?”
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
The little devil poofed out of existence and Yu Zhiye turned back into a saint who doesn’t care about worldly matters.
“Nah. Don’t bother. Since he dared to do it, think he hasn’t prepared excuses? Besides, think. Does it look like those guys will stand on his side or ours?”
“This…” Jack frowned. “Then how about we—”
“Hey Jack, don’t worry about it.” Yu Zhiye flashed a smile. “I’m all good. Really.”
“Yeah?” Jack smoothed out his frown and gave him a friendly pat. “Aight, if you say so. But if you really can’t help it, don’t be shy, bud. I’m always here.”
“Me too! Me too!”
Both men glanced at the silly girl raising her hand like a student who didn’t want to be left out and chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah, you too, little missy.”
“Ehe!”
“Ehe your head. Just eat your apple.”
What followed was idle chatter over dinner.
There was no more mention of splitting shares. That’s kinda meaningless talk anyways since everybody’s food stock was quite abundant.
Only when the time of crisis truly comes will the true side of everyone’s heart show up.
As for now? Whether it be fake or not, this level of getting along was just fine for Yu Zhiye.
With his trashy CHA stat, even having this superficial relationship counts as Lady Luck smiling in his favor.
Like so, they chowed and chatted. Time slipped away, just like the chips, orange slices, and coke in his hands…
Soon, the light spilling in from the door turned around to light spilling out, and the discussion topics gradually moved in that direction.
“Night again…” Jack sighed. “Are we just gonna turtle up like we’re in a bunker from now on?”
Gulp. Yu Zhiye finished off his coke and shrugged.
“What else do you expect us to do? This isn’t a game and those things out there aren’t zombies. Really think anybody can be a superhero?”
“Yeah?” Jack blinked. “We don’t need to be a hero to slay dragons. If I had a diamond sword, I’ll gladly fight to take back the night.”
“Right. Keep bragging.”
“Little Ling’er believes uncle can do it!”
“Bwahahaha! It’s little missy that knows me best!”
“Ehe!”
Yu Zhiye ignored the uncle-niece duo singing the same tune and his ears picked up on the similar conversation happening in the leadership circle.
“...I’m not sure if the drop tables are the same, but since there’s a status screen that looks like an RPG game of some sort, there must be EXP of some sort.”
“Yes, I agree with Mr. Kim. Hunting sounds dangerous, but it’s a must sooner or later.”
“Yeah, Boss Kwan is right!”
“Hurhur, that’s easy for you two to say, but how are we going to do it?”
After Kwan Minhwoo wetted his lips, he adjusted his glasses and proposed, “How about we try luring it to the door and killing it from the inside?”
“Ah, what a great idea! But what are we going to use to kill it? Our bare hands?”
“That’s bullshit! Think our fist is faster than that monster’s scythe?”
“Madaraka! You think I don’t know, baldie? I was being sarcastic, idiot! Sarcastic, you know!”
“Aeuughh?! What did you call me?!”
These two again… Kwan Minhwoo felt a headache. He ignored the two men butting heads and turned to the other brains in the group.
“Mr. Kim, Mr. Han, Miss Yoona, what do you think?”
Miss Yoona covered her lips and giggled lightly. “Boys, you’re not asking a lady like me to fight, are you?”
“Of course not, Miss Yoona. We’re just asking for some input.”
“Hmm? Input, is it? Huh… I say we don’t provoke them, lest we disturb a hornet’s nest.”
“Ohoho. That’s a valid point, but we should always prepare for the worst. Better to find a way to defend ourselves than leave it up to fate.”
“I agree. Mr. Kwan’s idea earlier fits my taste.”
“That’s great to hear, Mr. Han. But like those two said, we lack the gear to do it. Any suggestions?”
“Dig a pit in the sand? Maybe sharpen stones into pointy arrowheads?”
“Can that even break through that monster’s skin?”
“We won’t know unless we try.”
“Who’s gonna try?”
And that was where the biggest problem lays. Who will take the risk?
Even if they wanted to push out somebody to be cannon fodder, it won’t be easy without good reason and substantial benefits.
This wasn’t something that can be decided in a short time.
But no matter who it’ll be in the end, Yu Zhiye knew it won’t be him.
Though it was a tempting idea to fight for more benefits, why risk it when he can play the safe slice-of-life fishing game?
There’s no need to participate and court death. Safety first.
And if they ever try to force him? Hah! They can try and see!
