The twelve member train filed out the door and back into the embrace of the desert.
What welcomed them was air that was still warm, but not as hot as earlier.
Unsurprising, considering the sun almost finished dipping below the distant horizon.
The desert at this time was quite the beautiful scene. At least in Yu Zhiye’s opinion.
But what interested him more was the night that was about to fall.
Those who understand will understand.
Of course, interest was interest. He wasn’t so foolish to go up to be cannon fodder.
The other two in his party shared a similar opinion.
That’s why all three of them consciously stayed at the very back, as close to the store’s entrance as possible.
Meanwhile, the other three teams crowded around the front of the store, all revolving around the lady in red like male peacocks flaunting their tail feathers...
“If I’m not wrong, according to what I know, there will be all sorts of mobs appearing at night. Spiders, zombies, skeletons. Oh, right, I heard there’s even a legendary chicken jockey.”
That was somebody trying to be the smartass, and the others obviously wasn’t willing to lose out.
“Checken jockeeyy! Hurhur, I’ll kick that beeatch to the moon!”
“Che! What big talk! I bet you’ll chicken out when you see it!”
“Madaraka! What nonsense! A little chick can’t scare me! Miss Yoona, just stand behind me when the time comes! I’ll protect you!”
“Hmm? Really Mr. Park?”
“Absolutely! You can count on me because... I’ll catch a creeper for ya! Throw my hand on a blade for ya—!”
“Bullshit! Miss Yoona! Don’t listen to him! You know I’m the one who’d do anything for ya! Even take a bullet straight through—!”
“Ohem! Stop! Stop! Brother Tae, don’t speak such inauspicious words!”
“Che, Sungho, why are you stopping me? Isn’t it because you won’t do the same?”
“Brother Tae, I’m being serious!”
“Hey now. Mr. Kim is right. We should not underestimate the dangers of the night.”

“That’s what the weak says! Four-eyes, if you don’t got confidence, just leave Miss Yoona in our hands!”
“Yeah! Yeah!”
“I second that!”
“Yes, I also like Brother Insu’s suggestion.”
“Bah! What do you all know! Only CEO Kwan is worthy of Miss Yoona!”
“Nonsense!”
Arguments broke out once more...
Yu Zhiye almost wanted to clap in excitement! Yes, yes! Break up! Tear your faces!
It’s best if there’s a rift between all teams!
Only then can he fish for the most benefits!
“Sheesh. All for a woman. Women really are the root of all troubles—oh, little missy, I wasn’t talking about you. You’re still too young to get involved in these things.”
Xiao Shuling pouted. “Uncle! I’m not a kid! I’m 16!”
“Too young. Too young. Ain’t that right, Steve?”
Yu Zhiye nodded along. Yep, this wasn’t sister-leveling. No jail route please.
It was two against one, and Miss Highschooler can only sulk unhappily.
“Bwahaha! Little missy, there’s no need to mope! You’ll grow up someday! Even in this no man’s land, uncle and Steve here will—Huh?”
Jack frowned and looked around the dark desert. “Steve... did you hear that?”
Hear what?
Yu Zhiye tensed up and perked up his ears. That let him pick up a faint sound…
Click… click… cliick… cliiick…
That sound grew louder and louder...
Even the noisy crowd finally picked up on it and started quieting down.
“Un? What’s… that sound?”
“Beats me…”
“No way, it can’t be—!”
“Everyone, quiet!”
Hush. Once the noise was gone, the creepy sound straight out from a horror movie got clearer, closer.
Cliick… cliiick… click, click, click… click.
Then silence.
Everybody felt the jitters and looked at the darkness out there.
The light coming from the moon behind faintly illuminated the dark desert, but all they saw was… nothing. Just sand.
Even after a minute, nothing showed up. The tense nerves gradually relaxed...
Lackey A patted his chest and sighed in relief. “What was—?” SHUA!
The sand exploded! A shadow shot out at almost super sonic speed!
One moment, Baewoo was standing there. The next it was like a train slammed into him!
There wasn’t even time for him to scream in fear before a claw skewered straight through his head!
Blood and brain matter splattered all over!
But nobody bothered to care about that.
Everybody stared towards the impact point…
The curtain of sand crashed back down, and everybody finally saw the monster that screeched back at them!
“SCREEEE!”
Time seemed to freeze at that moment, and the monstrosity in front of them was engraved into everybody’s mind.
It was a creature straight out of a horror movie. A blend between a wingless bat and gorilla.
Some might not recognize this extraterrestrial horror, but those who has knowledge of a certain quiet place will know: this was a death angel!
But whether they recognized the monster or not, nobody dared to move. There wasn’t even a single peep.
Honestly, adding a women’s high-pitch scream at this point would be perfect for the horror effect.
But neither women contributed. Both were stiff like statues just like everybody else.
The night breeze caressed the sand, carrying the scent of blood through the pin-drop silence.
Facing nothing but statues, the death angel listened around for a bit longer before it lost all interest and started burrowing back into the sand…
The body skewered by its claws got dragged down along with it and soon only bloody sand was left.
The flowing sand gradually fell still, but still, nobody dared to budge a single inch.
Alas, humans weren’t real statues, and eventually somebody can’t help it.
A timid dumbo trembled...
It was a tiny shift, but it made everyone around him break out in cold sweat.
Fortunately… nothing happened.
But that did nothing to help relax everybody’s tense nerves. What if the monster was still there? What if it can detect them through movement?
Nobody wanted to have that accident.
But standing around wasn’t going to get anybody anywhere. What to do?
