Chapter-37- The Untold Desires

Jian Zhi, his heart heavy with a curiosity that felt both foreign and familiar, took a steady step forward. As he closed the distance, the little boy stopped playing and slowly tilted his head upward, his gaze meeting Jian Zhi's. "Who are you?" the child asked, his voice like a clear bell. "Why do you look so sad?" The boy's eyes radiated a pure, unblemished happiness that seemed to illuminate the dim space. Jian Zhi stood frozen, momentarily disarmed. "I am Jian Zhi," he replied, his own voice a low gravel in comparison. "And who are you?"

Upon hearing the name, the child's face blossomed into an even brighter smile. "Oh.. you also have my name? [He giggled softly] I am Jian Zhi as well. Come, sit! Let's play!"

A dawning, unsettling realization began to creep into Jian Zhi's mind—this boy was a fragment of his own past. He lowered himself to the ground, and the little boy immediately offered his toy. "Here, have my toys. And please, don't be sad anymore." The child's smile was a painful mirror of a forgotten innocence. "I know," Little Jian Zhi continued, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "You don't have any friends. You desire them, to play with them, don't you? Aren't you sad when they avoid you for a reason you never chose? Aren't you sad when they call you a curse behind your back? Aren't you sad that your very existence makes your mother suffer?"

[Little Jian Zhi]: "Hey, you big child! Growing older and becoming mature doesn't mean you have to kill me." His voice was filled with a devastating clarity and confidence.

Jian Zhi could only listen, each word a needle pricking a heart he had long thought calloused.

[Little Jian Zhi]: "Why do you keep staring at me? I am you, you genius! Your inner child! You suppressed me and locked me away in this darkness. Did you truly believe I was happy here all by myself?"

The boy's voice began to fracture, the joy leaching away to reveal a profound, echoing loneliness. His eyes, once bright, welled with tears, transforming his visage from one of hope to one of utter misery.

[Little Jian Zhi]: "I-I-I was...[a sob wracked his small frame]... I was waiting and waiting for you to come and get me...[sob...sob..] b-b-but...You! You were always studying books, keeping yourself shut inside that house! Even when you wanted toys, even when you wanted to play... you just held it all back....[sob...sob..] WHY? JUST TELL ME WHY?"

The little boy placed his small hands on Jian Zhi's shoulders, shaking him with a force fueled by a deep, lonely anger and bottomless sadness. Jian Zhi was utterly speechless, forced to witness the raw suffering of his own suppressed soul.

Finally, he moved, wrapping his arms around the small, trembling form of his younger self. "I-I never believed I deserved to have my wishes granted," Jian Zhi whispered, his own voice thick with emotion. "And... I never wanted to be another burden for Ma."

[Little Jian Zhi]: "You idiot! When will you learn to understand the heart? She lived for your happiness...[sob]"

As the child threw a tantrum born of years of neglect, Jian Zhi held him tighter. "I am sorry... What do you want from me? What is done is done, right?"

[Little Jian Zhi]: "Just promise me! Promise me you will be happy! That you will allow yourself to want things, for the sake of Ma's memory! And free me... free me from this lonely darkness?" The child looked up, his eyes pleading. "Hey, old fellow. Being a grown-up doesn't mean you can't be happy. It doesn't mean you can't have desires. You have to accept all of yourself."

As the words faded, Jian Zhi stared at the ground, a crushing guilt overwhelming him. 'Was I killing myself all along?'

[Little Jian Zhi]: "Jian Zhi, come here."

The boy opened his arms. As Jian Zhi moved forward to embrace him, the form of the child shimmered and transformed into his Earth Soul. She was now holding him, embracing him with an infinite, motherly love.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Go ahead," she whispered into his hair, her voice the sound of solid, comforting earth. "Cry all you want. Hate yourself, blame yourself if you must. But you must learn to forgive yourself at the end of the day. The true lesson is to learn from your flaw, not to be eternally punished by it."

And so, Jian Zhi did. He wept like the child he never allowed himself to be, sobbing against the shoulder of this maternal spirit as the Earth Soul slowly integrated with him, and the world around them began to dissolve.

He was still crying, still holding someone. But the form had changed. The earthy scent was gone, replaced by a faint, familiar fragrance of osmanthus. He was hugging his mother, Lin Wei.

[Lin Wei]: "Jian Zhi, my little general~" she cooed, her voice a melody he thought lost forever. "Why are you crying?~ Did someone hurt my baby?~ Hm?~"

He pulled back to look at her, his vision blurred by tears. Her face was glowing with a mother's unconditional love. She was a vision of serene beauty, her features like a painting from a lost era—眉如远山 (eyebrows like distant mountain ranges), 目如秋水 (eyes like the clear autumn waters), her complexion 肤若凝脂 (skin as if congealed cream). Every detail was perfected, an incarnation of the warmth and safety he had ached for.

[Jian Zhi]: "Ma....Ma...." His voice was a broken thing, all the sadness of seven long years pouring out. He clung to her desperately. "Don't go anywhere...[sob]...I won't let you go away from me... stay with me.. ma.."

[Lin Wei]: "Awww~ My Little Prince~" she hummed, stroking his hair. "Mama isn't going anywhere~ Did you have a bad dream?"

Through his tears, he managed a nod. "It was the worst one...[sob]"

[Lin Wei]: "Aww~ my poor prince~ it will be okay~ I am Here~ don't you worry~ [A smile warmer than the sun graced her lips]"

As she comforted him, the sound of the front door opening echoed through the house.

[Shàn Xìn]: "Darling~ Jian Zhi~ I am Home~ I bought your favorite sweets, honey~! Where are my two favorite people?"

Jian Zhi stiffened, confusion cutting through his grief. "Ma... Am I dreaming? Why is... why is your husband being so nice to us?"

Lin Wei gently knocked on his head. "Silly boy, address him as your father. Hasn't he always been this nice to us?"

Shàn Xìn entered the room, his face immediately falling into an expression of deep concern upon seeing Jian Zhi's tears. He knelt before his son, his voice soft. "Are you okay, son? What's wrong? Why are you crying?"

After Lin Wei explained, Shàn Xìn's face lit up with a warm, paternal smile. "Then it's settled! Let's all go out for dinner, a proper family outing! We'll make you forget all about that nasty nightmare."

As they prepared to leave, Jian Zhi's mind raced, a cold logic piercing the warm haze. 'What is happening? Was everything that came before just a nightmare? Is this real?' He murmured the doubts to himself, a soldier analyzing a too-perfect battlefield.

Walking through the village as a family was the final, surreal touch. The very people who had once crossed the street to avoid him now greeted him with warm smiles and friendly nods. They were seated in a restaurant, a feast before them, the picture of a perfect, happy family.

But Jian Zhi could only push the food around his plate, his mind calculating, analyzing the impossible patterns. This was not his life. This was a beautiful lie.

He reached out and took his mother's hand, his grip firm. "Ma..." he began, his voice steadying with a painful resolve. "I am so sorry. As much as my soul aches for this life to be real... I must choose to accept my reality. I will love you and miss you forever, Ma..."

He pulled her into one final, crushing embrace, memorizing the feel of her, the scent of her, before closing his eyes.

[Jian Zhi]: "Enough. Show yourself. I know this is an illusion. Just come out."

The world shattered. The warm restaurant, his smiling father, the loving face of his mother—all dissolved into a chaotic, shifting landscape that combined the stark features of his four elemental ordeals.

From the dissonance, a voice slick with mockery rang out.[The Viper]:"Ahh. Why did you have to ruin the drama? It was so touching, you know? 'Ma... ma........' [A burst of cruel, manic laughter] HAHAHAHAHHHA!... I can't, I simply can't stop laughing!"

Another voice, sharp and disciplined, cut through the laughter.[The Rooster]:"Cease your mockery! You failed to ensnare him with his deepest desires. You have no grounds for amusement, Viper."

[The Viper]: "Huh? And you, pretending to be such a noble guardian beast by protecting him from my laughter? Don't make me laugh harder, Rooster."

Jian Zhi, his spirit weary to its very core from the relentless ordeals, simply stood in the presence of these two personified aspects of his soul. His body was tired, but his will was steel. He merely watched them, his expression unreadable, waiting for the next trial to begin.
