Political Groups
Enigma – A codename for the person or group believed to be erasing anyone who uncovers secrets about leaving the planet—or restoring the orbital starship. Disappearances, false leads, and sudden deaths follow every major breakthrough. No one agrees on who’s behind it. Novem blames the clans. The clans blame Novem. And Enigma keeps cleaning up the truth.
Novem – The official governmental body overseeing archaeology, mining, and large-scale exploration on Aralin. It controls access to much of the planet’s uninhabited continents and claims legal authority over all ancient sites involving “sensitive” discoveries. Though structured as a research agency, Novem has deep ties to military and intelligence networks.
Novar – The covert operations and intelligence division of Novem. Officially non-existent, Novar specializes in black ops missions, high-risk artifact recovery, and information control. Its agents operate under strict secrecy, often embedded in other organizations or using false civilian identities. While some positions (like handlers) are known internally, most of its structure and operations remain classified.
Solterra – A century-old corporate giant and the privatized counterpart to Novem, owned and operated by the da Silva clan through da Silva Holdings. It manages vast swaths of uninhabited land, excavation sites, and logistics infrastructure—often with fewer restrictions and faster timelines than its government rival. It ultimately answers to the da Silva council.
Primarily composed of old Portilan colonial families. The three dominant clans—da Silva, Ribeiro, and Vaziari—hold immense economic and political influence, often rivaling or undermining the government and Novem’s authority. Each has a signature luminance ability passed down through bloodlines.
da Silva Clan – The most politically active clan, with a public face of diplomacy, business, and legitimacy. Controls da Silva Holdings and Solterra, Novem’s primary corporate rival. Known for maneuvering behind the scenes. Luminance Specialty: Invisibility.
Ribeiro Clan – Shadow rulers of Aralin’s criminal underworld. Infamous for brutal enforcement and an extensive black market empire. Luminance Specialty: Hard light constructs (weapons, armor, cages).
Vaziari Clan – A tech oligarchy with near-total control over burstproof technology, making them indispensable in a world plagued by EMP storms and device failure. Known for innovation, secrecy, and quiet dominance over Aralin’s tech infrastructure. Luminance Specialty: Tech integration (prism systems).
