Iteration 18 - A Eurasian Welcome

After facing off multiple harbingers on the way to Arnhem, they have arrived looking for a war welcome after capturing Amsterdam.

"Foreign objects, identify yourselves!", screamed the man on the radio.

"Captain Yelena Ribenstova speaking, this is the Zabytaya of Operation Farview."

  She was met with static.

"Captain Ribenstova, identify the object to your left.", said the rather eerie voice.

"This is Captain Eleanor Taylor, this is the NADUR space battleship, the Nova."

Static once again, this time, for longer.

The wait was unbearable as officers tapped their desks and made hand puppets in boredom.

  Finally, the static ended.

"Zabytaya, Nova, welcome to the Eurasian FOB of Arnhem. Permission to land granted."

The officers let out a silent celebration as the massive ship landed on the nearby field.

As the Eurasian officers left the Zabytaya, Eleanor decided to follow.

But before they could even get outnof their seats, a window popped up on the screen.

"Crew members of the Nova, you are not permitted to exit your ship. I repeat, you are not permitted to exit your ship."

  "What?", Eleanor thought.

She thought that after all of that struggle, they could finally rest. But for some reason, we're not allowed on the green pasture.

  The voice speaked again.

"Our officers are currently under the task of communicating headquarters about your appearance. Please understand."

  The line was cut.

"Oh, great. Now we're stuck here because the Eurasians don't bloody trust us.", exclaimed the Deputy Chief.

But his noise was blocked by Eleanor's thinking.

"Yelena, you better get this done right!"

Meanwhile on the Zabytaya part of things.

"It sure is not every day we see our fellow comrades at base!", exclaimed Boris.

He had gotten out alongside the officers.

In fact, many other crew members left the ship to visit their friends and loved ones.

Yet, not a single soul was allowed to leave the Nova.

  "Anastasia!", exclaimed one soldier.

  "Das!", she shouted back.

They rushed to each other and hugged as tight as can be.

"Glad you came back safely big sis!"

  She scoffed.

"Why wouldn't I you small man?"

The soldier pretended to be offended.

"Small? Who are you calling small? I am much like you, you know!"

The tense situation was quickly broken up by their laughter. Laughter that was louder than the Zabytaya itself.

The soldiers threw away their serious faces and instead, greeted each other.

Hugs, laughter, even a few kisses here and there, you name it!

Yelen on the otherhand, heased straight for the command post.

She wanted to get done what needed to get done.

Seeing everyone have someone waiting for them must have been envious, but she had a mission.

  She entered the command post.

Scanning the room, all she saw were radar and radio operators.

They all stood up in salute.

"Looking for General Makarov, captain?", asked one of the operators.

He remained standing whilst the others went back to work.

"Yes soldier. May I ask of his location?"

"Of course captain! The General is in the building behind the large barracks."

She nodded her head in understanding.

"Thank you soldier, be at rest."

And he went back to work whilst Yelena ventured to the General's location.

After the large barracks, she saw the building and approached.

"Tap, tap", went the door as she knocked.

"Come in!", said the voice inside.

  She entered the room.

Upon looking around, she noticed the reports and documents pinned on the walls.

"Ahh, Captain Ribenstova. How was your trip?"

  She saluted at him.

"Amsterdam has been captured sir!", she replied.

"And what did you get from it? Was there a database like the others?"

  She hestatingly replied.

"Unfortunately, there was no important data collected. It was nothing but a deserted city sir."

  He sucked his teeth.

"Oh, no. You see, Ribenstova. That was kind of the point of your mission wasn't it?"

  "Yes, sir.", Yelena regrettably stated.

"Well nevertheless, what are you here for Yelena? I assume you're not only here to report the battle when you have company."

He stood up and approached Yelena with a heavy stare.

"Sir, the ship is identified as the Nova and it contains a unit from the NADUR. We have found that they have a vehicle similar to the Laniakea. They call it the Aegis, sir."

  The General scoffed.

"Looks like those monkies managed to get our technology. Now, why are they here?"

His gaze ever so piercing whatever poor soul it locks on.

She tried to look back at the General, but to no prevail.

"They are allies sir. We have decided that cooperaration with them would benefit us, sir."

Her hand fidgeting behind her as she tried to keep her composure.

"Oh, no. Isn't that breaking one of our rules, Ribenstova?.."

He forced Yelena further and further back into the wall, continuing to speak.

"...They may be allies on paper but... we follow the rules, don't we?"

His hand slamming at the wall, pinning Yelena as her hands began to shake.

"We usually have set punishments for this... but for you, Yelena, we can solve this... another way."

His hand being uncomfortably laid on her waist, slowly moving lower and lower.

She made a quick glance at the exit door.

"Sir, all we that request is that you provide their unit with supplies because they'll only last a few days and they have a task and-"

  She sighed heavily.

"Please let them continue their mission, sir."

His face grew in disbelief and his hand let go of her.

"Well, that's an interesting proposition. You see, we don't really give supplies away to strangers.", he stated.

Yelena, having calmed down, reassured him.

"That unit holds a weapon so powerful that we can use them to our advantage."

The General wandered the room, considering the offer.

"Ribenstova, I can't do that. That will make this force look soft, I can't let that happen."

He sat down onto his desk and slammed a piece of paper back into its place as it tried to float away.

"Sir, we can manufacture a deal with them, perhaps use them in Kamchatka-"

"Look Ribenstova, I don't want the trouble of having to do diplomacy with that nation. So I say, screw them."

Her fist was gripping tightly, but he had to follow the command.

"Then sir, I'm coming with them."

He spat out the vodka he was drinking, staring directly at Yelena.

  "What did you just say?"

"I said, I will accompany them, sir."

He got up his seat, hands down at the desk, looking at the random papers laid on it.

He stood like that, for ages. Silent.

"Ribenstova, you've got the guts to do it."

He walked slowly towards the door, whispering to Yelena.

  "But, remember..."

He slammed the door behind him as she stood there frozen, staring into nothing.

Later, all of the crew members of the Zabytaya were bought back.

Broadcasted to both ships was a dreadful message.

"We are to leave tomorrow for Antwerp. Supplies have been denied. We have been denied."
