Miles moved steadily down the stairs, his gun raised before him, ready for any danger that might appear.
Each step creaked softly under his weight, the sound echoing in the narrow stairwell like a slow drumbeat.
He'd already cleared the first floor, without incident, but that only made him more on edge. Afterall, danger rarely announced itself.
So, who knows what would appear below. His heart is beating softly, with each steps he took.
If he wanted to survive this new world, surely he would have no choice but to follow through on the app's demands.
Once, Miles finally descended to the third floor, he steady his aiming with the gun ahead as he scanned the surroundings for danger.
The corridor was dim, though not completely dark. He could faintly feel the tremor of his phone against his vest as he caught sight of a faint shadow moving at the far edge of the hallway.
Miles silently drew his knife, gripping it tight as he crept slowly toward the shape from behind.
When he was just a meter away, he surged forward as fast as he could muster, he drove the tactical knife straight into its head as black blood gushed out.
Although the strike is clean and precise, but it didn't collapse right away. Miles caught the creature before it could hit the floor, carefully lowering its weight to the tiles below, so it wouldn't make any noise.
'One down..'
After taking care of the Cursed, Miles scanned the corridor and continued to scout the corridor, silently disposing of those he encountered.
Which is in total of three, including the first one he killed.
'3 In total.. I should be able to complete this once, I cleared the remaining floor.. but for now, I clear the room aswell..'
Then, he started to look through the room door by door.
The first one is empty, there's no furniture at all; so he immediately moves on to the next. Inside, is desk cluttering with clothes and leftover foods in the table.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
But there's no blood, no sign of struggle beyond the disarray.
After checking the room, he moved to the other rooms, but, they're all similar to the previous one.
Messy desk, leftover foods, and some is overturned furniture but nothing more. No Cursed or anything, not a blood or sign of struggle.
'Although, Its good there's no Cursed. But, was I the only left survivor in this building?' Miles thought his feeling complicated about this thinking.
But, although he wouldn't dare to think that he was the only human in the world surely there's more..
He hope so..
Soon, Miles reached the remaining 2 rooms, at the other side of the corridor that has door label as 311.
He tried to turn the doorknob, but it was locked tight. Pressing his ear against the wooden door, he held his gun at the ready, prepared for whatever danger might be waiting inside.
At first, he heard nothing but silence. Then, faint and muffled sound came, it was unlike the growls he heard since morning.
This time, it was the familiar soft sound although weak. He could faintly hear it with the weak sound barrier of the room in this boarding house.
It was the muttering voice of two girls, their words tangled and urgent as they spoke in hushed tones from inside Room 311.
"...said we shouldn't open it. What if its those monster in the window?!"
"And what we suppose to do? Our food won't last a month, If its not those monster. They surely could help us, to be able to walk in through the corridor without any noise."
"Well, they could just be sneaking around and trying to search for food."
Miles listens for secs, before immediately continued moving forward and look through the remaining door.
'So, I'm not alone, there's also another survivor...'
After clearing the final room, which was empty like the first one.
Miles immediately headed back up to check the second floor, It was where he'd once in before and returned to the roof.
The morning sun outside was already dawning, which washed the city skyline in streaks of orange and pale gold.
He walked toward the edge of the stair as he slowly descended through the floor as he was prepared to face any danger he might encounter.
With his gun raised high, Miles moved carefully down each step, his eyes scanning the shadows. Halfway to the second floor, he froze..
froze-something was moving below him in the darkness of the stairwell.
A low, raspy breathing echoed up toward him, with a low growl accompanying it; It was also followed by the sound of dragging feet on the floor tiles.
Miles pressed himself tight behind the stair rail cover, his breath held steady as he peeked down at the dark shadow moving below.
He raised his M17, resting the barrel on the cold metal railing to steady his aim.
Then...
Pew! Pew!
The creature jerked backward, then fell with a heavy thud against the tiles below, black blood spreading across the floor.
It was a good thing he'd received a suppressor for his M17 in the app's tutorial version 4 gift box.
Without it, clearing the building would have been far more dangerous.
Miles took the remaining steps one by one, his M17 still raised as he reached the second floor landing.
He could faintly saw three shadow clusters together in the center of the corridor at the right side of the hall.
And the room near it... Is obvious his.
Which mean, it was attracted by his previous gun shot.
When he had eliminated those Agile Cursed, on the left side of the corridor.
There's not a single Cursed that could be find at all, so he decided to clear the left first before dealing with the three Cursed at the right.
After all, dealing with three Cursed together would surely attract more; he couldn't kill them all at once without making noise, even with the suppressor.
He was a bit thankfully, that the boarding house always had turn off light during the morning.
And it was morning, when this disaster appeared. So, no one had a chance to turn on the light now.
Turning to the left, Miles immediately started moving silently along the wall, his guard always alert as he slipped away from the three Cursed cluster together on the right side of the corridor.
