Chapter 34: The Cost of Voltage

  Chapter 34

  The Cost of Voltage

They limped back looking like hell had used them for chew toys.

  Chris half-dead under the boar.

Kim limping, pant leg turned into a bloody bandage.

  Luna slinking low.

Belle last—hair sticking out like she’d stuck her finger in a socket, arms trembling, tiny blue arcs crawling over her knuckles.

Dan took one look. “Jaime’s gonna murder me.”

He snatched the boar off Chris like it weighed nothing.

  “I hate you,” Chris muttered.

“Love you too, bro. What happened?”

Kim opened her mouth—“Three boars, no wat—”

Jaime hit like a heat wave. Shoved Chris aside, crushed Belle into a hug that looked half-protective, half-strangle.

Belle broke. “It’s hot and cold and I’m covered in pig blood and I electrocuted something and I want my PHONE!”

Luna licked the sparks off her hand.

Dan, calm as ever, patted Belle’s shoulder. “We have Pie Fort.”

  “AAAAAARGH!”

  Sparks popped like angry firecrackers.

  Belle stomped off.

Jaime glared murder at Dan and chased after her daughter.

Dan turned to the guys. “What’d I do?”

  Chris just stared.

Jimmy looked at the sky like it owed him money.

Chris smacked his arm. “Earth to Jimmy.”

Jimmy blinked. “Oh. Hey. When’d you get back? Any water?”

Dan pinched the bridge of his nose.

  “We’re all gonna die.”
