Chapter 31 - Arias & Astra

Chaos and fire consumed the battlefield. The once-fertile land was now a ruin of devastation, saturated with blood and ash. Ancient, towering rocks had been shattered under the sheer force of the battle, while the low valleys had turned into pools of blood. The howling winds carried the stench of iron and sweat, mixed with the thick black smoke rising from the bodies of burning beasts.

At the heart of this maelstrom stood Arias, wreathed in a radiant aura. From his back burst the colossal wings of a phoenix, an eternal flame given form. They glowed with the color of molten fire, the very embodiment of a phoenix’s might, radiating the warmth of life itself. Each beat of his wings sent waves of heat searing through the sky, making it seem as if the heavens themselves were burning around him.

Arias raised a hand to the sky, and in a flash, a brilliant golden barrier surrounded each of his comrades. This golden ward deflected every blow and granted strength to those who stood behind it, as if the light itself had sworn to protect them.

And whenever a soldier fell, Arias’s magic flowed across the battlefield. He unleashed a golden field of energy over the entire area, and anyone injured who couldn't reach a barrier felt a warm touch knitting their wounds and restoring their strength.

Facing this grand spectacle, not far away, stood Astra, the Demon Queen. Alone, in the midst of the battle. With her immense power, she had summoned an army of monstrous beasts from the depths of darkness. These creatures, with their massive, twisted bodies, blotted out the horizon and covered the plains. Some bore giant black wings, others moved on four colossal legs, armed with sharp claws that shattered stone and leveled mountains.

Astra’s armies surged toward the allied races. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Spirits, Demi-humans, and even other Demons, all fighting side-by-side against Queen Astra.

And above them all, the Four Dragons of the Seasons soared.

**Ignistra**, the fiery dragon, blazed across the sky in a vibrant red, like a burning sun. His massive wings pulsed with power, each beat igniting firestorms that annihilated everything in their path. Wherever he flew, he left pillars of flame in his wake, his heat so intense it threatened to set the very air alight. His roar was a deafening thunder, as if the mountains themselves bowed before him.

**Zephyrus**, the celestial blue dragon, moved with impossible speed, a living gale given form in the sky. He commanded storms and tempests, which battered Astra’s army and drove them back from the field. With every pass of his vast wings, Zephyrus unleashed destructive currents of air that tossed the beasts into the sky like leaves in a storm.

**Aurelia**, the golden dragon, was the calmest and wisest among them. Her shimmering wings shone with the colors of nature, and she hovered over the battlefield like a silent guide. Through her healing power, the surrounding forests pulsed with life anew, and her energy flowed into the body of every soldier fighting beside Arias, mending their wounds and renewing their strength. She watched the chaos with eyes full of wisdom, as if she perceived every detail of the battle.

**Frigorus**, the ice dragon, was terrifying in his majesty. His silver scales reflected the intermittent lightning that flashed across the sky, and his enormous wings cast a shadow over vast swathes of the battlefield. His every roar froze the air, and every blast of his breath turned the earth to solid ice, halting the enemy’s advance and breaking their might. Frigorus was the embodiment of cold terror, his power unyielding.

The four dragons circled the battlefield, each using their great power to support Arias and his army. Ignistra devoured the flames of darkness with his own fire; Zephyrus hurled Astra's army into unforgiving tempests; Aurelia bolstered the healing fields and barriers for the soldiers; while Frigorus froze the very blood in their enemies' veins.

At last, Arias stood face-to-face with Astra.

His red wings feathered gently behind him. His heart hammered with the thrill of the fight, as if he had been waiting for this confrontation for a long time. His eyes held no fear or hesitation, only determination and the desire for a true challenge.

Astra, the Demon Queen, stood before him with equal resolve, her face alight with excitement. Her dark wings shifted with the wind, her eyes gleaming with a passion for the battle to come.

"Finally," Astra said, her smile eager. "A worthy opponent."

Arias smiled back, raising his sword. "The feeling is mutual. Enough words. It's time to fight."

Astra raised her own sword and took a step forward. Arias fell into a ready stance, and for a moment, it was as if the entire world had gone silent before the storm.

Without warning, Astra attacked first. She raised her right hand and unleashed a torrent of crimson flame. A searing red glow erupted from her palm, streaking toward Arias with the speed of lightning. The flames exploded through the air, turning everything around them to ash. But Arias was ready; with incredible speed and skill, he dodged the rising inferno and lunged toward her, his sword swinging in a powerful arc.

But before his blade could touch her, Astra cast her impenetrable body spell. She smiled, her voice full of excitement. "You won't take me down that easily!"

Quickly, Astra summoned Gray Lightning. Dark clouds gathered, unleashing gray bolts that struck the earth, converging on Arias. The sound was deafening, the lightning tearing through the air with immense force. Arias tried to counter with his own enhancement spells, channeling the lightning's energy around his sword, managing to stand his ground against the colossal strikes.

Arias attacked again, infusing his spiritual power into every blow. His sword began to glow with immense energy, and each swing seemed to carry the weight of the world. He clashed with Astra in close combat, every strike sending an explosion through the air. The entire battlefield seemed to shudder under the force of their collision.

Astra cried out, her voice filled with exhilaration, and pushed her power to its absolute limit. Her entire body began to glow as she moved like an unstoppable force, each of her strikes powerful enough to shatter mountains.

Arias did not back down. He felt this was the decisive moment and unleashed all of his spiritual power. The burning phoenix wings behind him blazed even brighter, and he charged at Astra with everything he had. The exchange of sword strikes became a torrential flood, their blows crossing and clashing, neither one able to retreat.

The moment they both reached the peak of their power, their forces collided in a way that had never been seen before. The sheer energy that exploded between them was indescribable. The violent shockwave from the impact created a colossal wave of power that spread out in every direction. The earth trembled, and the sky ignited with warring colors.

The energy was so terrifying that everyone on the battlefield was knocked unconscious. The three other dragons, the humans, the elves, the dwarves, the demons, even Astra’s own beasts—none could withstand such overwhelming power.

Only Aurelia remained standing. She had used all of her strength to erect a powerful barrier around herself, shielding her from the cataclysmic effect of the battle. But even so, she could not participate in the fight. Arias and Astra were on a completely different level. She reverted to her semi-human form, content to merely watch the duel before her.

In that moment, a heavy silence fell upon the ravaged battlefield. Everything had stopped, save for Arias and Astra. The dust slowly settled to reveal them standing in the center of the chaos, panting, but on each of their faces was a pure smile—the smile of someone who had finally found the meaning of their existence.

Suddenly, with a quiet movement that broke the silence, Arias reached for his chest and, with a sharp metallic sound, unfastened the clasps of his golden armor. The heavy plate fell to the ground with a resounding clang. He then looked at the glowing sword in his hand, regarding it with appreciation before tossing it aside.

Astra’s eyes widened in surprise, her smile turning into a look of wry confusion. "Hey now… what's this, Arias? Are you giving up, right when we finally got to the fun part?"

Arias’s smile grew wider as he brushed the dust from his shoulders. "Give up? Never," he said, his voice quiet but echoing across the field like thunder. "This armor, this sword… they were tools given to me, for a duty I never asked for. But now, facing an opponent like you… I want to fight you with my own power."

He raised his empty hand to the clouded sky. "I want to show you… who I really am."

The air around him began to distort. His immense magical and spiritual energy converged into a single point above his palm. This was not the golden, healing energy from before, but a raw, primordial power, drawn from the very essence of the world. From nothing, a sword began to materialize—a sword unlike any ever seen.

It was not merely a weapon; it was nature incarnate. Its outer edge burned with an unquenchable flame, while its core was frozen with eternal ice. Currents of pure air spiraled around the hilt, and sparks of lightning along the blade, which was forged from the heart of the earth and the essence of water.

  **the Elemental Sword**

Astra froze for a moment, the wry smile vanishing, replaced by absolute awe. Her heart hammered so hard she could feel it in her throat. Then, slowly, the awe transformed into the widest, happiest smile the world had ever seen. "The Elemental Sword…?" she whispered to herself, before bursting into a loud, genuine laugh.

"Arias! What kind of creature are you?!" she shouted, her voice filled with pure joy. "You were hiding this the whole time? Phoenix wings… and the Elemental Sword! You… you are the most magnificent person I have ever fought! This is the first time I'm so glad to be alive!"

Arias gripped the hilt of his new sword, feeling its perfect balance as if he were born holding it. He looked at Astra, his eyes shining with a deep sincerity. "The feeling is mutual, Astra. You are the greatest opponent I have ever had. Thank you for existing."

Now, they were no longer a hero and a demon queen. They were simply two equals, preparing for the final, most beautiful dance of their lives.

Astra’s smile sharpened like a blade. "The words are over, Arias. Show me everything!"

With a cry that shook the earth, Astra unleashed all her remaining power in a single attack. The Gray Lightning condensed in her hand, not as a bolt, but as a spear of pure chaos, and launched itself toward Arias with enough force to obliterate mountains.

But Arias didn’t move to dodge. He calmly raised his sword and struck the ground before him. In less than the blink of an eye, a towering mountain of ice erupted from the earth, its crystalline walls reflecting the Gray Lightning and scattering it into a thousand harmless rays. The groaning sound of the ice forming was deafening.

From the peak of his glacial fortress, Arias leaped high into the air. He swung the Elemental Sword with immense force, and in an instant, dozens of sharp blades of wind launched from the blade. But they weren't just wind; each blade blazed with a crimson flame, leaving fiery trails across the sky as they shot toward Astra.

And the moment he unleashed the blades, lightning flashed around Arias's body. It wasn't just speed; it was a disappearance and a reappearance. In the same instant Astra realized the flaming blades were upon her, Arias was already in front of her, his sword raised, his eyes filled with a final resolve.

Astra paused for a heartbeat, looking into his eyes, then at the blades raining down from the sky, and she laughed. It was the most glorious thing she had ever seen.

The ground around them ignited, and the very air was saturated with energy, as if the world had been torn in two under the weight of this transcendent power.

Arias, despite the immense effort and the energy he had expended, was smiling. His eyes shone with excitement, as if he had enjoyed every moment of this fight.

Astra, in turn, was also smiling. This was the moment she had waited for, a confrontation worthy of all her strength. Her voice, though strained with fatigue, came out full of happiness. "This is the battle I wanted! This is the challenge that was worth fighting for!"

There was no hatred between them, only a genuine ecstasy for battle. Every strike from Arias only fueled her passion for more. Her magical powers flowed without end, and her impenetrable body had held firm against his initial blows, but something was changing. With every new strike from Arias's sword, it began to show signs of cracking.

As the fight continued, both pushing themselves to their absolute limits, the very earth began to fracture around them. The energy they unleashed was not just destructive power; it was a reflection of their deep passion for the battle itself.

In a final clash, Arias raised his sword high, pouring every last bit of his strength into it. In response, Astra gathered all her magical energy, crimson flames swirling around her like a vortex of fire. As they moved toward each other, they struck with all their remaining might.

The resulting explosion was colossal. The earth beneath their feet collapsed, and the sky erupted in warring colors of light and dark. But amidst it all, Arias and Astra were still smiling, as if this moment was the greatest they had ever witnessed in their lives.

When the storm subsided and the energy slowly began to fade, Arias was standing, exhausted, but a smile was still on his face. He looked at Astra, who was lying on the ground, breathing heavily, but she too was smiling. Fatigue had claimed them both, but that moment had been worth every second of the battle.

Arias took a deep breath, looking at Astra with clear admiration.

"You were an opponent worthy of every second of this fight," Arias said, his voice rich with appreciation.

Astra, sprawled on the ground and worn out from the fight, laughed softly. "You too, Arias. That was the best fight of my life. You didn't disappoint in the end. It's incredible… the Elemental Sword, I can't believe you mastered that spell. It's beyond description."

Arias scratched his head, smiling. "I figured out the secret, though I can't hold onto the sword for long. It drains my spiritual and magical energy incredibly fast."

At that moment, Aurelia strode quickly toward Arias. Her face was grim, and she spoke in a sharp tone. "Arias, this is your chance. Finish her now, and get rid of this threat for good!"

Arias’s gaze shifted from Astra, lying on the ground, to Aurelia, his eyes filled with a calm resolve. He took a deep breath and said quietly, "I won't do that, Aurelia. I have no quarrel with Astra."

Aurelia looked at him in disbelief, her voice laced with anger. "Arias, have you lost your mind? Astra is a real danger. You have to end this now, before it's too late."

Arias ignored the anger in Aurelia’s voice and took a step toward Astra. His gaze was still steady, but now it held something different. He looked at Aurelia with frank eyes and said, "Astra… I love you."

For a moment, there was absolute silence. Aurelia froze in place, her eyes wide with shock. Astra was stunned as well, unable to process his words. The fight between them had been extraordinary, but for him to confess his love was something she had never expected.

Astra burst out laughing at the confession, her smile full of disbelief. "You… I never expected anything like this," she said. She paused for a moment, then her voice grew more sincere. "But… I love you, too. At least, in this battle I did."

Aurelia couldn't stand it. Her emotions pushed her to lunge suddenly at Astra, screaming, "This isn't love! She's a threat to the entire world!"

But before she could reach her, Arias moved in a flash. A single blow from his sword stopped her and sent her to the ground. He stood over her, his eyes holding a merciless severity.

"I won't let you do this!" he said, his voice deep and firm.

Aurelia slowly raised her head, fury blazing in her eyes. "You don't understand, Arias! If we don't get rid of her now, she will destroy the world. It's your duty as a hero! You have to kill her!"

Arias stared at her face for a moment, then he suddenly erupted in anger, the emotions he had long suppressed bursting forth without hesitation.

"Duty? Are you insane?!" he roared, his voice filling the space. "What exactly is my duty? To be a tool? I lived my life alone, weak, and grew strong through my own effort. I had no one, no family, no friends to support me!"

He took a step toward her, sword still in hand, but he didn't raise it to strike. He glared at her, his eyes full of anger and pain. "Then you suddenly show up and tell me I'm the hero who has to kill Astra! To hell with you and humanity! I didn't fight for them. I fought to face a strong opponent! I fought to feel alive!"

The echo of Arias's words hung in the air, while Aurelia remained on the ground, staring at him with a mixture of shock and anger. She had never expected this outburst from him. She tried to rise, the fury not fading from her eyes, but now it was mixed with confusion.

"Arias, this isn't just about you! It's not personal!" she said sharply, trying to regain control of the situation. "This is bigger than your feelings or your loneliness. The entire world depends on getting rid of Astra."

Astra, still lying on the ground, had listened in silence, her expression calm and confident. She rose with some difficulty and walked toward the two. Standing beside Arias, she spoke quietly to Aurelia. "I didn't become the world's enemy by choice. I loved to fight, and I was looking for strong opponents. So, I became a knight and entered many wars. But because of my strength, the king of my own kingdom ordered my assassination, fearing I would usurp his throne. I started by defending myself, and then, in my zeal, I made a mistake. I thought that by making the world my enemy, I would find the strongest of foes. My desire was never to destroy the world, but maybe I enjoyed it a little. And now, here I am, and I have found the first person who could ever defeat me."

Astra’s words were candid, their truth clear, and for a moment Aurelia felt a flicker of hesitation, though she remained wary. Then Astra said with a confident tone, "You can see the future. Didn't you see this scene before?"

Aurelia answered, "Yes, this is exactly what I saw. I saw the two of you teaming up against me. I thought you had controlled Arias's mind, so I had the Guardian of Spirits, Oralis, merge his own spirit with Arias's. This was to make him immune to spirit-control spells."

Arias sighed and said bitterly, "So you did it for nothing. I lost a part of my lifespan just to maintain my power. I never wanted this merger, and I was prepared to take the risk."

Astra looked deeply at Aurelia, then said, "I have an offer for you. A deal I think you'll like."

Aurelia didn't answer immediately, but looked at her with hesitation, trying to understand her hidden intentions. Silence reigned between them for a few moments, before Aurelia asked in a serious tone, "And what is this deal you're talking about?"

Astra took a few confident steps forward. "I will give you what you never expected. You will tell humanity that Arias and I are dead. I will create two fake heads with my magic—one for me, and one for Arias—so that everyone will believe we are gone."

Aurelia looked on suspiciously, but she didn't interrupt, simply watching with anticipation, waiting for more details.

Astra continued in a calm voice, "I will also place a special pact between myself and Arias, called the Heart-Pact. If Arias dies, I will die with him. And if I die, he will die with me."

Aurelia blinked in astonishment, her gaze shifting to Arias and then back to Astra, suspicion growing in her mind. "Why would you choose to do this? What's driving you to make such a sacrifice?"

Astra smiled faintly, nodding her head slightly toward Arias and placing a hand on his shoulder. She spoke in a contented tone that carried a deep well of emotion. "Arias is human, and he's lost a part of his life. As for me, I am a demon. I could live for hundreds of years, but… it seems meaningless now. I've already lived a long time, but my life was dark. Empty of anyone. I didn't have a family either. I had no friends, just me and the void. But now… for the first time, I want to be with someone real. Even if it's for a short time. If Arias dies, I will die with him. And this also guarantees that I won't remain a long-term threat to you."

Aurelia's confusion deepened, and she couldn't hide her question. "This doesn't seem logical… why would you sacrifice your life so easily?"

Astra smiled calmly. "Simply put, a short life with someone I love is far better than a long life without meaning."

She then added with a confident tone, "But that's not all, Aurelia. I will give you a part of my power. This power will make you the strongest among all, and you will be able to protect everyone who seeks peace. No one will dare to challenge you."

Aurelia’s eyes widened in clear astonishment.

Astra continued, "You will be immune to magical attacks of the Thirteenth Level. And you will be able to use a few offensive spells of the same level. I know you will not use this power for evil; that's why you are the most suitable. So, will you trust me?"

These words seemed to flip a switch in Aurelia’s mind. She looked at Arias, trying to read his thoughts, then her gaze returned to Astra. A tense silence fell over everyone, before she asked seriously, "Arias, will you agree to this?"

Arias looked at Aurelia with deep thought, as if reviewing his memories and all he had been through. He then nodded his head and said with resolve, "Yes, I agree. I no longer have anything in this world worth staying for. I will be happy to live with her, far away from all this madness. I've always lived my life seeking power, because it was the only thing that kept me going."

Astra turned to Aurelia and said, "We will disappear. We will live together in a distant place. Our story ends here, and you will have your peace. No one will dare to challenge you, and you will become the undisputed Dragon Lord."

Aurelia breathed deeply, considering the offer carefully, feeling the weight of the decision before her. She saw in it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—a chance for peace, and an unexpected, immense power. She slowly nodded her head. "Alright. I'll accept."

Astra smiled and turned to Arias, who was beside her, then said in a quiet voice filled with contentment, "Then it's settled. We will disappear and start a new life."

Aurelia looked at Arias, her tone serious and concerned. "And what about Oralis?"

Arias answered in a deep voice, a thread of pain in his words. "If I separate his spirit from mine, he will become a wandering soul, and I don't want that for him. Oralis was the Guardian of Spirits, and he possessed the most powerful healing spells in existence. But the painful truth is that his spirit's presence within me was not the protection we thought it was."

He paused for a moment, then continued in a firm, quiet voice. "For Oralis to die with me would be a tremendous loss, not just for me, but for the entire world. His power must be preserved and used wisely at the right time. For that reason, I will separate him from my spirit, even if it means losing a large part of my own life."

He looked at Aurelia and added with confidence, "I will place Oralis’s spirit in your hands, Aurelia. There was an ancient pact between the Lord of Spirits and the Lord of Dragons, a pact built on trust and wisdom. I trust you more than anyone to protect this spirit and not allow anyone to reach it. The world must believe that Astra and I are gone, that our story has reached its end. That is how it must remain, forever."

Aurelia remained silent for some time, trying to process what had been said. She looked at Astra and Arias, and while she felt the trust they showed, a part of her was still hesitant, a hidden fear of the consequences of this decision. But in the end, she said quietly, "Very well. It seems this is the fate you have chosen. It's not as if I could stop you anyway."

Astra smiled warmly. "Then, I'll give you the heads and grant you a piece of my power."

Astra used her magic, summoning two massive beasts. She then began to touch them slowly, transforming their shapes into perfect replicas of Arias and herself. The process was majestic, a magical glow enveloping the beasts until they looked exactly like the two of them. With a single touch, Astra severed the magical heads and gave them to Aurelia. "Here. The shape of these heads will never change. They will prove our deaths to the world."

Then, Astra looked at Aurelia and walked slowly toward her. She placed her hands on Aurelia’s shoulders and closed her eyes. A radiant light appeared between them, energy flowing from Astra’s body into Aurelia’s. Aurelia felt a strange power coursing through her, a potent demonic energy. She felt as if she could do the unimaginable.

Aurelia took the heads, her eyes full of thoughts and questions that had no easy answers. Then Astra looked at Arias and said softly, "Let's go."

As Astra prepared to leave, Arias cut the moment short by raising his hand suddenly. "Wait a moment."

Astra and Aurelia looked at him curiously. Without explaining, Arias walked over to Aurelia, quickly took her hand, and began to slip two rings from her fingers. Aurelia looked at him, bewildered, while he said nothing, offering no explanation.

"Erm… may I ask why you're taking my magic rings?" Aurelia asked, raising an eyebrow.

Arias smiled as if he were doing the most natural thing in the world. He placed one of the rings on his own finger, then walked over to Astra and put the other on her hand, saying simply, "There. Now we're married. And you, Aurelia, you're our witness."

He paused while Astra looked at him in mild shock. Then a small smile touched her lips, her cheeks turning a faint red, and she said in a tone not without a trace of sarcasm, "Really? Just like that?"

Arias nodded, still smiling, then glanced at Aurelia, who was standing there, slightly stunned. He turned to her. "Now, declare us husband and wife."

Aurelia sighed. "Fine. I bear witness that you are husband and wife. Arias and Astra."

"Alright," Arias said. "We'll be going now."

And the two of them began to walk away, step by step, distancing themselves from Aurelia, who watched them in silence until they disappeared completely from her sight. The silence enveloped her, but she felt the weight of the decision she had made, and a great responsibility on her shoulders. She was on a path to peace, now with a new power that made her ready for any future challenge.

  (To be continued.)
