38. Heaven defying genius

Jin Hao stayed for the night and after feeling he was well enough to travel, he decided to go back to his clan for full recovery. He tearfully bid farewell to Ling Yun, telling him that when he fully recovers he would visit him again to repay the favour he had shown him.

Ling Yun told him to forget about it since they are friends. This again brought another wave of tears falling down his chubby cheeks.

Jin Hao, although he was so arrogant at first is a good person at heart.

  "Missing your friend?"

"Friend?" With the sight of Jin Hao's carriage disappearing from his view, he turned back to the house and responded to Brahma.

"It was just me being polite when he suggested it. I know there is no such thing as friendship."

He was momentarily shocked at the words coming from his mouth, something that Brahma would say.

I truly have been corrupted by her.

"That fatty has a high opinion of you. He genuinely wants to become friends." From her words that had a slight teasing tone to it, he knew she was just testing or messing with him.

"He was nice to me because I proved I was better than him. If I hadn't won, he never would've shown me basic decency let alone swearing to become friends." Ling Yun closed the door after entering the mansion.

"I just wanted to resolve any future enmity. If he continues to be nice to me, I will also be his kind friend Ling. I don't care about seeing him again. Now I've kept her waiting for far too long."

With steady steps, not too slow or too fast, he reached Mu Feixue's chambers and opened the door. Due to Jin Hao, they couldn't sleep together last night ending the streak so he knew she must be pent up.

And there she was, on the bed in the same pose as the first night. He pushed back the bad memories and braced himself for any questions about his cheating and the wild ride after that.

  ***

It was just like usual, he was standing beside her bed with the same gentle eyes and obedient expression on his face waiting for her command.

Mu Feixue had been watching everything that was happening, the duel and what happened after it. Her usually obedient baby had fought a duel against her wishes. And when he was about to lose, he somehow caused Jin Hao to fail in order to achieve victory.

It was quite a different side of him. Her docile baby acted like a ferocious tiger, verbally and physically destroying his opponent. It made her remember that she wasn't raising a cute cat or a dog, he was a teenage boy slowly becoming a man. It was just a flash of the future.

Try as much as she might, her baby wouldn't always remain a meek obedient lamb forever. He was growing and will grow up and the man inside him will show its nature. She could never control each and every aspect of him and mold him like clay.

From her previous experiences, she should be worried or even afraid but she never felt it. Because her baby had once again proved his devotion.

Mu Feixue knew her baby well. He never cared about worldly matters and only focuses on his cultivation. He was inside an Immortal city which many cultivators never get to sight of it and yet he never set a foot outside the mansion.

Seriously, which teenage boy acts like that. Normally one would be in a rush to explore an Immortal city but her baby had voluntarily shut himself inside to only study alchemy. He was the kind of person who had even forgone sleep for more cultivation.

Her baby wouldn't fight someone just because of some childish provocation. The only reason he did it was for her. She had told him about the Jin clan bothering her and her baby decided to take care of it by himself. The only thing he requested from the esteemed Jin clan was that they leave her alone.

It was like a story straight out of those romance scrolls. For her he fought, for her he threw away his honour and cheated and for her he showed kindness to that rude Jin Hao to peacefully end this matter. If a woman wouldn't like that then her heart must be surely made of ice.

So even though he was growing and changing, his love for her will also grow stronger with time.

Now her baby deserves a nice reward.

"Baby you have made master so happy. Tell me what do you want? Tonight master will follow your every request."

Mu Feixue put on her best seductive smile. She watched him contemplating what to chose and was also excited for it.

Maybe he would show a new side of him in bed today.

"I know master is very busy but can you spare some more time for teaching me. Next time I want to win fairly."

Her seductive smile froze for a second then her lips turned into a cute pout. Sometimes he would make her question if she has any charm in her body.

  This cultivation maniac!

  Stolen novel; please report.

Her hands reached behind his neck and she forcefully pulled him down on bed. She rolled them over and straddled him then sealed his lips.

Let's see how you think of cultivation this day.

  ***

Because she had missed one night, they went at it the whole day. And what did Ling Yun think of a voluptuous beauty spending hours riding him?

Tiresome and a waste of time.

He wasn't expecting it but Mu Feixue kept her word. She took a few hours from her busy schedule (reading romance stories in bed) to personally teach Ling Yun each day.

He knew she would rather go back to her room but she never let it show on her face. Perhaps wanting to match his diligence and maintain the image of a good teacher, she was serious the whole time and didn't fool around. Ling Yun quite liked this version of her.

It was the one he expected when he first became her disciple, a doting teacher who earnestly guided her students. But every night he was reminded that it was just a naive thought of a foolish boy.

Fearing he would be afraid of a cauldron explosion, Mu Feixue promised to teach him a method to seal the cauldron during refinement later. At his current cultivation of 5th level of Qi Refining, it would be too taxing on him.

In her presence he began his third attempt at refinement. His first attempt ended in failure. His second was abandoned due to the explosion at the duel. He hoped that the third time would be the charm.

Mu Feixue could tell that he had made considerable progress. His movements, though not on the level of a veteran, were fluid enough that no one looking could tell that he was novice on his third try. Even more than that, it had only been a little more than two months since he started studying alchemy.

Believing the refinement to be completed, he opened the lid and was greeted with a fresh medicinal fragrance. With bated breath he took out the object inside and brought it close to his eyes to inspect.

It was a smooth brown pill with faint lines on its surface. A surge of excitement rushed through his veins followed by a sense of relief.

Finally I did it. It wasn't the wrong choice, I can become an alchemist.

It was a sense of accomplishment he had never felt before. Not when he mastered the Third Eye, not when he killed his first demonic beast or when he condensed the Eternal Mourning Raven. To Ling Yun it felt like he has finally taken a step forward on the long road of cultivation. He felt so glad that if he was alone, he would cry tears of joy.

Mu Feixue was momentarily astonished at Ling Yun refining a high grade pill as his first before remembering the reason. The Pheonix flames aren't the hottest or the most destructive flames in existence, they are widely acclaimed as the flames of purification, the greatest desire of any alchemist. While other alchemists would have to exert great effort to temper the ingredients, for Ling Yun who wields the divine Pheonix flames it is a piece of cake. Any pill made by him should always be high grade or above.

There is a reason why people don't blindly consuming pills. Every pill contains with the medical energy a certain amount of toxins. These toxins steadily build up in your body and create bottlenecks in the future hampering your cultivation. Also it was harmful to health and can decrease lifespan.

On the basis of purity, pills can be divided into five categories. The purity depends on the quality of ingredients used and the skill of the alchemist.

Pills having a purity of 60-70% are called low grade pills. They are slightly deformed and are mostly used by poor cultivators. A purity of 70-80% represents middle grade pills. They are smooth and perfectly shaped. These constitute the most number of pills and are the ones that are widely sold in the market.

Pills having a purity of 80-90% are called high grade pills. These pill have faint lines on their surface. They are usually sold only in high end shops and auctions. Pills having a purity of more than 90% are called excellent grade pills. Distinct pill lines are present in the surface. They aren't sold publicly and can be only found in auctions or used in private transactions.

Pills with purity less than 60% are trash and should be immediately discarded. But in the rarest of rare cases, sometimes pills are formed with a 100% purity. They are called divine pills. Forget about selling, a true alchemist may forever keep it with himself as a priceless treasure.

"Baby I would believe you instantly if you claim to be the Pill God reincarnated. Master was nothing compared to you at your age. See, your first pill was a high grade pill."

Mu Feixue had already began doting him, celebrating his success. Ling Yun was also in high spirit but there was a question in his mind. She may have been blinded by her emotions and chosen to ignore it but he had learned enough about alchemy that he knew what had happened was far from normal.

So he turned to the only person on who he could rely. "Brahma, tell me what's the reason? First the Heart of Flame art and now this. This is too fast. Am I a child of destiny blessed by the Heavens or is there another reason for these impossible feats?"

Her mischievous voice soon came answering him. He could even clearly imagine her smile saying all of this.

"I thought it would take a while for you to notice it. Tell me Ling Yun, if a Nascent Soul cultivator who doesn't know a thing about alchemy decides to become a master alchemist, how long would it take him?"

Ling Yun pondered on her question for a minute. Even top geniuses starting from the beginning take many years to become a master alchemist. But forget about Nascent Soul, even Core Formation cultivators are far beyond his imagination. He had only met one in his life who had helped him save Yaoyao.

Not wanting to waste time, Ling Yun made a blind guess. "Maybe a few months?"

"Wrong. Less than a fortnight and that too without any manuals or inheritance. They could just by themselves become an alchemist master if they decide to. The biggest difference between them and normal people is the understanding of Dao.

"Any Nascent Soul cultivator has a deep understanding of the primary path they have cultivated in their long lifespan. This helps them in understanding other arts and different paths of cultivation.

"The second biggest difference is their mental capabilities. The soul undergoes a transformation when one reaches the Nascent Soul realm and one's mental capacity and capability expands massively. Many high level cultivation arts can only be comprehended at that level. And here lies your answer.

"Answer me this, what was the first tea that was ordered on the third day since you started working in that tea shop?"

Ling Yun tried to remember and to his surprise he remembered. The crazy thing was that he could clearly visualise the memory of uncle Ping yelling the order.

  This is impossible. But how...

"Feeling shocked?" Brahma instantly predicted his thoughts. "Like I told you before, you have the soul equivalent to a peak Nascent Soul cultivator. It isn't just beneficial only to soul arts. Your memory and comprehension ability are heaven defying, beyond the understanding of average genius. Nearly all of the hundred arts of cultivation like alchemy and spiritual culinary arts mainly relies on mental ability not physical abilities. This is the reason for your insane progression."

Brahma rarely speaks about herself but Ling Yun knows she is an existence beyond the imagination of the entire world. Hardly anything is worthy of her attention, she doesn't even mention people by their name. For someone like her to allude the words heaven defying to him, it sent shivers throughout his body. His heart was overwhelmed, brimming with pleasant surprise but also immense terror shook him from within.

Her lips curved into the familiar wicked smile. "As I told you before, the Heavenly Dao is really unfair."
