Chapter 56: Cold Experience

“Damn dog— didn’t know I’d be fighting one today.” Zero was standing in a desolate city— the colours faded, although not as technological as Floria— it was viable, at the time— now the Imp stands in the wasteland which once housed many lives, a cultural capital destroyed.

In front of them was a multi-headed dog, floating in the sky: their hood was pitch black whereas the rest of their body was a dull bronze, specifically the coating which looked rusted— the serpent tail on the back sharpened— biting at the Imp which stood below, snickering. The fiends both grit their jagged teeth before their eyes spiralled— red and yellow specifically.

“You weren’t supposed to be here— Cerberus, but I get told to leave my humble jail-cell by the ‘Lord’— here ya are… causing mayhem.” The Imp stretched their hands to the ground— both hands picking up two ruby spears as the crimson portal remained— dozens of spears ready for picking. “Let’s say I put you down now.”

The dog honed their fangs— saliva dripping before charging at the Imp.

“I’ll be brutal then.” Zero tilted their head— as the sky shrieked, the dog of Hades slammed into a pillar of spears which were readily assembled, they turned inwards— creating thorns that shot into the dog— piercing.

The canine howled— saliva ceasing to drip as his eyes stopped spiralling— a concentrated red glare lasered onto Zero who laughed.

“Is the dog upset— woof woof?” The Imp taunted as they jumped into the air— spinning their spears whilst juggling to penetrate through the dog’s left leg.

“You aren’t better than a human— arrogance plagues you.”

The Imp’s eyes widened as they dispersed their spears at the last moment, bouncing away from the dog as a flame barrier encompassed him.

“You speak?” Zero’s eyes jolted above as the hound was no longer in reach but kilometres in the air.

The dog smiled— human— before chuckling— human.

Cerberus stood on the air— on all fours before blinking repeatedly, their spine snapped upward— as if they were anthropomorphic— bones popped, the front legs outreached then sprung to the side— marionette, the paws on the back-leg supported the torso as the head began to screech— alien.

Zero flew down to the ground— their wings flapping noisily as they began to giggle like a girl— like Jeremiah used to.

“Is this you yeah? Are you some fucking—”

“SKINWALKER!” The ‘Dog’s’ voice— demonic and screamed; all the prior buildings which were barely up right collapsed as the syllables were uttered, “YOU KILLED JAMES PATEL! YOU WILL DIE FOR KILLING MY BROTHER!” Flames emerged from their breath as it consumed their body whole— they were resistant and just coated themselves in fire.

The smell of burnt fur plagued the sky as Zero covered their nose mockingly.

“Quite the theatrics— I knew that boy I killed wasn’t a boy, some filthy skinwalker— you’ll die too don’t worry bud.” Zero motioned their hands for the portal to come closer— they slapped a spear and shoved it into the ground, propelling themselves upward with it.

“Say cheese!” The Imp grinned— eyes spiralling as they began to ooze from their mouth, they grew in size.

At-least the size of a skyscraper, the goliath grabbed onto the flaming dog before:

“Hip hip ho!” Zero played baseball— they were the pitcher and they threw the ball (Cerebeus) into the bright blue sky.

Zero was sitting in a jail-cell, although joining Medea’s forces permitted benefits, their crimes would be atoned for in here— lifetime.

The room was dirty— dank, as they threw a baseball at the wall— catching it, then repeating.

There was a television in the room— it was playing music— jazz, the devil’s favourite.

Yes, Zero could leave at any time— they did, any time they wanted to— they left.

The Imp jumped around— blinking through the barricade.

It was a like a dungeon after all— dungeon crawling.

They walked out— it was solitary confinement so nobody else on this level.

“I haven’t done this in a while.” They dug through the pockets of their sweatpants— digging out a badge, it had Melissa’s face on it— taunting whilst text above it read,

“You Failed!”

Zero scoffed— their eyes batting away as they spun the badge around, a mug of a three-headed dog was there— smiling.

“Wait— isn’t that the terrorist!” Zero yelped, “Why the hell would he be at a trial?”

The Geek interrupted “You aren’t going to a trial— you can’t, you’ve been banned by Thidos to go Floria— that’s why you are even here other than being chosen.”

“Wait.” The Imp stared forward, “What’s going on.”

The Imp was frozen, ice— their leg pounced on the ground whilst their arm mid throw, Zero’s eyes were faded, dark.

The dog grinned— it was out of the palm of the devil’s hands and celebrating; they went back on all fours— masquerading before flying away into the distance. Muttering,

“Thank you for that… Avarie— Number 2…”

“Wake up, Imp.” Gabriel Khan slapped the unconscious Zero was lying on the floor— shuddering. “You went off without us— took a couple hours to find you.” The Archangel pointed at the sky— it was midnight, dark.

“What happened?” The Imp groaned— getting up and viewing that the only one present was Gabriel.

“I’m the only one who cares for you— if you ask. I don’t know either— all I know is that the Lord told me directly to find you— not even in person it was telepathically or an illusion, something like that.” Gabriel carried the dazed Imp before walking away, “Back to the castle.”

“Isn’t it a cave?” Zero groaned— their eyes half asleep.

“It’s whatever the Lord wants it to be at that moment— let’s get there when it’s a castle— it’ll be good!” Gabriel ran out— bumbling the Imp who was jolted awake with every pounce into the night.
