---
The goblin horde crashed against the dungeon defenders like a wave against stone.
But stone doesn't fight back.
Baldo met the first wave with his pickaxe spinning—not the tool of a miner now, but a weapon of war. Goblins flew left and right, their crude weapons shattering against his relentless swings. Three went down before they could touch him.
"THAT'S FOR THREATENING BUBBLES!" he roared.
Elena stood on a rise behind him, arrows streaming in controlled bursts. Each shot found a target—not killing, but disabling. Goblins fell with pinned legs, pinned arms, pinned anything that moved. Her quiver seemed bottomless.
Mira fought beside Mel, protecting the honey slime while she worked. And Mel worked—her honey shooting in streams that hardened instantly, trapping goblins where they stood. One moment they were charging; the next, they were statues, encased in amber.
"Left!" Mira shouted, and Mel spun, trapping three more.
Bubbles—
Bubbles was everywhere.
Her bubbles filled the battlefield, confusing the goblins, obscuring their vision, creating chaos. But now the bubbles did more than confuse. They burned. Not with fire—with something stranger. Pure joy, concentrated, turned weapon. Goblins touched by the bubbles didn't feel pain; they felt happiness, disorienting and terrifying. They dropped weapons. They ughed. They forgot to fight.
"BUBBLES!" Baldo yelled, ughing himself. "YOU'RE AMAZING!"
She heard him. Her cheeks flushed with pride—and she fought harder.

But the horde kept coming.
Shiny stood at the front, her metal body taking hits that would have killed anyone else. Goblin weapons shattered against her. She didn't just defend—she advanced, pushing into the horde, creating space for her sisters.
"Get back!" she shouted, and her body expanded, becoming a wall of living metal. Goblins bounced off her, stunned.
Ember and Frost fought back-to-back, fire and ice swirling in deadly harmony. Ember's fmes drove goblins into Frost's ice patches; Frost's ice sent them sliding into Ember's fire traps. They moved like they'd fought together for years—not weeks.
"We're good at this!" Ember yelled.
"Don't get cocky!" Frost yelled back—but she was smiling.
Glimmer pulsed with stored mana, releasing waves that energized defenders and disoriented attackers. Goblins stumbled, confused, as their own bodies rebelled against them.
Dawn stood at the rear, healing light reaching toward anyone who got hurt. A scratch on Mira's arm—healed. A burn on Ember—soothed. A goblin's cw raked Shiny's surface—the mark disappeared under Dawn's glow.
"Thank you!" Shiny called.
"Keep fighting!" Dawn called back. "I'll keep fixing!"
Dusk moved through shadows, appearing behind goblin leaders and dragging them into darkness. One moment a hobgoblin was screaming orders; the next, silence. Dusk reappeared elsewhere, expression unchanged.
And Prisma—
Prisma fought with beauty.
Her rainbow light exploded across the battlefield, blinding goblins, distracting them, creating illusions so real that goblins fought shadows while real defenders fnked them. She wasn't a warrior—but she was an artist, and the battlefield was her canvas.
"Beautiful!" Lilith called to her. "Absolutely beautiful!"
Prisma beamed—and her light intensified.

But the war beast was coming.
It moved slowly, massively, crushing its own troops in its eagerness to reach the dungeon. Multiple eyes scanned the battlefield, hungry and mad. Multiple mouths drooled acidic slime that smoked where it fell.
"That thing is wrong," Elena muttered, firing arrow after arrow at it. The arrows bounced off its hide. "WRONG WRONG WRONG."
"It's made from stolen dungeon parts!" Lilith's voice carried across the battlefield. "The goblin core absorbed other dungeons and built that abomination!"
The war beast roared—a sound of pure agony, as if every stolen piece of it was screaming.
"Then we put it out of its misery!" Baldo grabbed his pickaxe and charged.
"BALDO NO!" Mira screamed.
But he was already there.
The war beast's massive cw swept toward him. He ducked—barely—and swung his pickaxe into its leg. The bde sank deep. The beast howled.
And then the second cw caught him.
Baldo flew backward, crashing into a tree. He didn't get up.
"BALDO!" Bubbles screamed.
Something inside her snapped.
The bubbles around her changed color—from joyful iridescent to burning crimson. Her eyes bzed. Her small body trembled with power she didn't know she had.
"YOU HURT HIM!"
She raised her hands, and the bubbles merged—hundreds, thousands of them, combining into a single massive sphere of compressed light and joy and fury.
"You. Hurt. My. Friend."
She threw it.
The bubble sphere shot across the battlefield like a comet, trailing crimson light. It struck the war beast square in the chest.
And exploded.
The bst sent goblins flying. The war beast screamed—really screamed—as its twisted body absorbed power it couldn't understand. Joy, concentrated, weaponized, destroying something made from suffering.
It fell.
Not dead—but down. Twitching. Whimpering.
Bubbles colpsed.

Mira reached Baldo first.
He was breathing—thank every god—but his eyes were closed, his body twisted wrong. Blood seeped from a wound in his side.
"Dawn!" Mira screamed. "DAWN!"
Dawn was already running, her healing light bzing. She reached Baldo and poured herself into him—literally, her slime body merging with his wounds, sealing them from inside.
"Don't you dare die!" she whispered. "Don't you DARE! I just learned your name! I just—I just started—"
Baldo's eyes flickered open.
"Hey, shiny dy." His voice was weak but present. "That tickles."
Dawn burst into tears—and kept healing.

The battle raged on.
But something had shifted.
The goblins saw their war beast fall. Saw their hobgoblin leaders disappearing into shadows. Saw slime girls—slime girls—fighting with courage and power no one expected.
They hesitated.
And hesitation, in battle, is death.
Lilith saw it. Felt it. Used it.
"NOW!" she shouted. "ALL TOGETHER! PUSH!"
The defenders pushed.
Shiny advanced, her metal form unstoppable. Ember and Frost fnked, fire and ice clearing a path. Mel's honey trapped fleeing goblins. Glimmer's mana pulses disoriented any who tried to regroup. Prisma's light blinded those who looked back.
Dusk appeared behind the st hobgoblin leader—the one trying to rally the troops.
"Going somewhere?" she whispered.
It turned, weapon raised—
And found nothing but shadow.
When it turned back, Dusk was gone. So was its sword.
It ran.
The goblins broke.
They fled—not in order, not in formation, but in pure terror. Back into the forest. Back toward their dungeon. Back to whatever punishment awaited them from a core that had lost everything.
The defenders let them go.
Let them spread the word.
Let them tell every goblin, every dungeon, every predator what happened when you attacked this pce.

The silence after battle was heavier than the noise.
Everyone stood frozen, processing what had just happened. What they'd done. What they'd survived.
Then Bubbles moved.
She crawled—literally crawled, too exhausted to walk—toward Baldo's still form. Dawn had stabilized him, but he hadn't woken again.
"Baldo?" Her voice was tiny. Broken. "Baldo, please wake up. Please. I need you to ugh at my bubbles. I need you to call me amazing. I need—" she sobbed, "—I need you to be okay."
His hand moved.
Just a twitch. Just a finger, reaching toward her.
But she saw it.
"BALDO!"
His eyes opened—slowly, painfully. "There's my bubble girl." His voice was a whisper. "Did we win?"
"We won." She was crying and ughing at once. "We won because of you. Because you charged that monster. Because you—you're so STUPID and BRAVE and—"
"Sounds like me." He smiled weakly. "Help me up?"
"No! You're hurt!"
"Dawn fixed me. Mostly." He tried to sit. Failed. "Okay, maybe not mostly. But I'm alive. Thanks to you."
"Me?"
"You killed the war beast. With bubbles. Bubbles, Bubbles." He ughed weakly. "You're officially the most terrifying person I know."
She stared at him.
Then she kissed his forehead.
"Don't ever scare me like that again."
"No promises."

Mel found Mira sitting alone, staring at her hands.
"Hey." The honey slime sat beside her. "You okay?"
"I killed people." Mira's voice was hollow. "Goblins. But still—people. They had lives. Families. Maybe even someone who loved them."
Mel was quiet for a moment. "Do you remember what they were going to do to us?"
"Yes."
"They were going to dissolve Drip and Drop. Consume our dungeon. Kill everyone here." Mel took Mira's hand. "You didn't start this fight. You finished it. That's not wrong."
"I know. But it still feels..."
"Bad?" Mel squeezed. "Good. If it didn't feel bad, you'd be a monster. The fact that it hurts means you're still you."
Mira looked at her. "How did you get so wise?"
"Lots of practice listening." Mel smiled. "And honey. Honey helps."
Mira ughed—weak, but real. "I love you, you know that?"
"I know." Mel leaned against her. "I love you too."

Lilith walked through the battlefield, checking on each of her girls.
Shiny, repairing her own dents. Ember and Frost, still bickering but holding hands. Glimmer, glowing softly, exhausted but proud. Dusk, emerging from shadows with a quiet nod. Prisma, already sketching the battle scene. Dawn, still hovering near Baldo.
And Bubbles—Bubbles, who had found something inside herself that no one knew existed.
"You were magnificent," Lilith told her.
Bubbles looked up, eyes red from crying. "I was so scared."
"Fear is what made you brave. Only the afraid can be courageous." Lilith knelt beside her. "You saved us. You saved him. You saved yourself."
Bubbles considered this. "So... it's okay that I liked it? Just for a second?"
"It's okay that you did it. The liking—that's something you'll figure out ter." Lilith hugged her gently. "For now, just know that you're exactly who you're supposed to be. And who you're supposed to be is wonderful."
Bubbles cried into Lilith's shoulder.
But they were good tears. Healing tears.

The war beast still twitched.
Up close, it was even more wrong—a patchwork of dungeon parts, monster parts, even some adventurer equipment melted into its flesh. Multiple eyes rolled independently. Multiple mouths drooled. Multiple limbs spasmed.
"It's suffering," Elena said quietly. "We should end it."
"How?" Mira asked. "Nothing we did hurt it permanently."
A voice spoke in everyone's mind.
Let me.
They all turned toward the dungeon entrance. Toward my core room.
Lilith. Bring it to Floor 1. I'll absorb it.
"Master, that could be dangerous—"
It's made of stolen dungeon parts. Stolen core parts. If I absorb it, I learn about the goblin dungeon. I learn its weaknesses. I learn how to destroy it permanently.
Lilith considered. Then nodded.
"Girls. Help me move this thing."

It took hours to drag the war beast through the dungeon.
It fought—not intelligently, but instinctively, its multiple limbs thrashing, its multiple mouths snapping. But together, the slime girls managed. Shiny anchored. Ember and Frost controlled temperature. Mel's honey soothed. Glimmer's mana pulses confused it.
Finally, they reached my core room.
The war beast saw me—saw my pulsing crystal—and screamed. Not in fear. In recognition.
You know me, I projected. How?
The eyes focused. One mouth formed words.
"Primordial... taste... ancient... HUNGER..."
And I understood.
This beast wasn't just made from dungeons. It was made from primordial dungeons—ancient cores that had existed before memory. And it recognized something in me. Something old. Something forgotten.
Lilith.
"Yes, Master?"
When I do this—when I absorb it—I might remember things. Things that change everything.
"Change how?"
I don't know. But if I become... different... if I become a threat—
"You won't." Her voice was absolute. "You're my Master. You're our heart. Whatever you remember, whoever you were, you're ours now. That doesn't change."
I pulsed with warmth.
Thank you.
Then I reached out with my consciousness—and absorbed.
---
The war beast dissolved.
Not painfully—peacefully, like it had finally found rest. Its components flowed into my crystal, merging with my essence, becoming part of me.
And with them came memories.
Images fshed through my mind.
A vast darkness. Stars being born and dying. Crystals—cores like me—scattered across reality. A war. A betrayal. A shattering.
I saw myself—not as I was now, but as I had been. Massive. Powerful. Ancient. A primordial dungeon god, surrounded by queens who worshipped me.
I saw them fall.
I saw myself fall.
And I saw—
A fragment. A tiny piece of me, escaping. Fleeing across reality. Hiding. Waiting.
Waiting to be reborn.
Lilith.
She was there, pressing against my core, holding me together as the memories threatened to overwhelm me.
Lilith, I remember.
"Remember what, Master?"
I remember you.
She froze.
Not this you. Not the you I created. The you before. The you who was mine when I was a god.
Her eyes widened.
You're not my creation, Lilith. You're my reunion. You were always mine. You just forgot. Like I forgot. Like we all forgot.
Tears streamed down her face.
"I remember too." Her voice was broken, beautiful, whole. "I remember everything. The war. the fall. The promise." She pressed harder against my core. "I promised I'd find you again. No matter how long it took. No matter how many times I had to be reborn."
You kept your promise.
"We kept it together."

They found us like that—Lilith wrapped around my core, both of us glowing with ancient light.
Mira approached carefully. "Is everything okay?"
Lilith looked up, and her smile was different now. Older. Wiser. More complete.
"Everything is perfect, little one. Everything is exactly as it should be."
She stood, addressing the gathered slimes and adventurers.
"We won today. Not just a battle—a victory that will echo through dungeon-kind. But harder days are coming. The goblin core still lives. Other dungeons will hear of us. And something older, something darker, may be waking."
She looked at each of them in turn.
"But we'll face it together. As family. As we always have. As we always will."
Bubbles raised a tiny fist. "FAMILY!"
The others joined in—slimes and adventurers, voices rising together.
"FAMILY!"
And in my core, pulsing with power I hadn't felt in eons, I knew:
This was only the beginning.
