Chapter 27: But I Refuse!

DIO crashed into the ground. Pain exploded in his chest. Ribs—pulverized. Blood sprayed from his mouth.

He looked up. A silver-haired girl stood where he'd been. Back turned. Fist raised. One casual blow did this?! Impossible!

Poco's despair vanished. "God-lady! You came!"

  "Yep. Just in time. Again."

DIO's vampire body healed fast. He staggered up. Clutched his chest. Within breaths, his ribs mended.

He stared at her. Horrified. "Who... are you?"

She ignored him. Looked at the fallen Ripple warriors.

"Yare yare daze. Frostbite everywhere. You didn't break DIO's Vaporization Freezing, huh? Geez."

She raised her hand. Soft light enveloped them. Wounds healed.

They woke. Dire and Straizo blinked. The kid was telling the truth?

DIO lunged from behind. "Watch out!"

  "Wryyyyy! Too late! Die!"

  Claws aimed to shred her.

  They passed through. Afterimage.

  "What?!"

He landed. Spun. Where is she?

A voice behind him. "Looking for me?"

Cold sweat. He whirled. Combat stance.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

  "What are you?!"

"Human? Mm, not anymore. I'm an apprentice deity."

"God?! Don't be ridiculous! Gods don't exist!"

  DIO—scholar, skeptic—refused to believe.

She laughed. Silver bells. "Hahaha! DIO, you're hilarious! You became a vampire from myth, but you don't believe gods exist? Don't you find that funny?"

  Rage flared. He charged.

She vanished. Reappeared in front of him. Instant Transmission. Kicked his head.

  CRACK.

He flew like a soccer ball. Cratered the floor.

He crawled up. Skull caved in. Blood streamed. Horrifying.

  "Damn... it..."

One punch. One kick. I'm nearly dead. If I weren't a vampire...

"God-lady! Destroy this monster! You can do it easily, right?!"

  Dire shouted.

Perilla put one hand on her hip. Tapped her chin. "True. Killing DIO's like squashing an ant. But I refuse."

  "What?!"

  The Ripple warriors froze.

"I can kill this vampire. Tomorrow, a stronger one appears. Should I kill that too? I can't babysit you forever. Old man, you're Chinese—you know the saying: 'Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, feed him for life.' As a deity, I'll point you in the right direction. But you walk the path yourself."

Tonpetty bowed. Hands clasped. "Forgive my rashness. But God, how do we defeat this vampire?"

"Relax. The ones who'll defeat DIO are already here."

She pointed at the balcony. Two figures flew through the window. Floated in midair.

People rubbed their eyes. No wires. No support.

"Mr. Jonathan! Mr. Zeppeli! You're here!"

  Speedwagon shouted.

Tonpetty stared at his student. "Is that really you, Zeppeli?"

  "Yes, Master."

  Zeppeli landed. Bowed.

  "Your Ripple... it's massive!"

Tonpetty couldn't believe it. Before, his Ripple was a trickle. Now it's the Yangtze River. I've never seen a Ripple warrior this strong—not even a tenth of this.

And the young man beside him—equally powerful.

"Thanks to Miss Perilla. She guided JOJO and me onto a new path. We've only been training a few days. Don't worry, Master. After we defeat DIO, we'll teach you Ki cultivation."

A new path? This strong after just a few days?!

Jonathan stepped forward. Pointed at DIO. "DIO! This time, I'll destroy you completely! For everyone you've hurt!"

"Revenge? JOJO, with you? Don't forget—you and that old man lost to me hours ago! Now you talk big? Hahaha!"

If the silver-haired girl threatened me, I'd worry. But JOJO? I've crushed him since childhood. Even as a Ripple warrior, what can he do? I have Vaporization Freezing. Space Ripper Stingy Eyes. I just nearly turned three Ripple warriors into zombies.

  "Die, JOJO! Wryyyyy!"
