Chapter Eight
Part Five
It wasn’t long before Mortimer appeared on one of her round glassless windows, and tied to him was a vial of Miracle Elixir. As soon as Line took it, Mortimer wasted no time in flying off. Vax’dian’s description of Miracle Elixir was highly accurate, it was a clear translucent liquid with a constant spiralling swirl of deep green and deep red speckles of something slightly glittery. It was rather pretty.

Line sat at her desk, looking at the vial in her hands. She sighed, she had realised that she couldn’t use her own blood for her little experiment she wanted to conduct. As she was already poisoned. She thought about asking Ali or Arasha to let Line take a few drops of their blood, but thought against it. It would be strange to ask, besides, if Line did do her experiment, she would cause the runes to flare in her master’s chamber.
She thought for a moment, deciding to think of another way to complete her experiment. There was also something else that Line had to check up on. Line stood and left her room, taking the vial with her. She didn’t want to leave it unwatched, and made her way down into the depths underneath the Candour Monastery library.
She followed the path she was familiar with, coming to the door she was headed towards. She opened it with her token, and stopped dead in her tracks.
The room, in which Kidd was supposed to be, stood empty. The white ropes that once bound Kidd, lay sprawled over the floor. Line glared at the now empty chair, like it was the chair’s fault that this rooms prisoner was missing.
This was bad, Line thought, as she turned on her heel and made her way back the way she had come.
