Noble Part Four

  Chapter Five

  Part Four

Vax’dian had followed Line’s instructions, so he and Hyde had taken the body parts to the morgue. Where they were currently placed atop a steel table. They had mostly stayed out of the way, as the doctor was busying himself with fully inspecting the parts. When finally his hands moved to the potato sack. He very carefully reached in, and slowly removed the head from inside. The doctor then began looking over the severed head with upmost concentration.

Vax’dian couldn’t help but to take a step forward. He knew this man. Only in passing, but he knew this case just became even more serious.

The doctor muttered under his breath “I see”

“What do you see?” Vax’dian asked.

“by the amount of blood that you told me was at the scene, this man was still alive as he was dismembered. But also, the cut looks like it was made from an axe of some kind... Almost like a butcher’s knife”

  “Almost?”

“Well, the strength used to cut with such force and the precision of these cuts would suggest a butcher”

Vax’dian let out a sigh. With Line in charge of this case she would get a lot of recognition, and if he was a part of the case so would he. Yet he didn’t quite like the idea of using this man’s death to get it, even though he knew they both needed it.

Hyde spoke up, as though he could read Vax’dian’s mind “even if you didn’t know the victim, I know you would still work on this case. People deserve justice”

  “indeed... Justice”

Line walked through the doors into the morgue, with Ali and Miss Brynn in tow. After talking to the woman behind the desk, Line was given the directions to the room where her victim was.

She turned to Miss Brynn “wait here a moment. I’ll get everything ready”

Line and Ali then made their way through the cold halls here. Trying their best to ignore the heavy disinfectant smell that always hung in the air here. They moved into the room they were told to, and found Vax’dian, Hyde, and the body. Alongside the doctor, of course.

“I know our victim died sometimes last night, I’ve even found an identifier” Line started.

“We don’t need one. I can tell you right now who he is” Vax’dian responded.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

Line now just noticed that the potato sack had been removed “who is he?”

  “Baron Sinn Usell”

Ali’s eyes widened “wait, this guy’s a Baron?”

“Yes. He worked under the ministry of education. Apparently, he was highly skilled, though I wouldn’t know. I’ve never actually had any long discussion with him”

“Then should we inform your father of this? Our victim is a Baron, he would probably want others to work on this case” Line wanted this case, but she couldn’t help but to back down when faced with someone with such importance.

“I will tell him. But I will try to keep you on this case. You’re already involved, it would be a hassle to bring in another inspector now”

A smile fluttered across Line’s lips “thank you”

He returned the smile “Of course”

“Inspector” the doctor cut in “I’ve written down my findings for you” he produced a paper file “here”

“I probably shouldn’t yet. Just in case I’m not permitted to work on this case. I wouldn’t want you to get in trouble”

The doctor gave a nod and pulled back his hand “very well”

“My good Inspector, I should have approval for you to investigate this case by tomorrow”

She gave another smile to Vax’dian before turning “Ali, let’s go”

When they were back in the monastery, Line immediately began searching for Arasha. In which she found her sitting in the library, and sat opposite her was Divan. Of course.

  “Arasha?”

  “Line”

“are you alright? I never got a chance to talk with you after that”

  Arasha smiled “I’m alright”

  “what did he tell you?”

Arasha grew quiet, thinking back on her time with master. Until she let out a sigh “a lot. I see why he wanted me to begin training so early”

“he has you on a new set of training courses?”

“Yes. I have already told Divan that you may be seeing less of me for a while. I need to take on new responsibilities”

Line looked at Divan. He had yet to speak any snide comments at Line yet, which was strange of him “are going to start looking for a new partner, Divan?”

  He grunted “maybe”

“Listen, Line. Now that my role is expanding, I hope that you can fill my place. Make sure you keep getting cases, keep growing your reputation. Get the kings approval” she sighed again “even though the king liked me he never gave me what I wanted. But I’m sure that you can get there”

“Do you mean The Red Tassel?” Divan asked.

  “I do”

“Arasha, you don’t need to worry about me. Getting The Red Tassel was always my goal” The Red Tassel could only be given by the king. It was a pass into any case or any locked places from the public without needing any kind of permission from the royal family. Since learning of its existence, Line had been very set on obtaining one. She needed it for something very important to her.

  “Good”

A deep resonating bell sounded out throughout the monastery, it was loud enough to reverberate through the wall sending vibrations through Line. But for the past five years Line had been here, she had never seen a bell big enough to cause such effects.

“Curfew has started” Divan stood from his chair “I’ll see you in the morning. Maybe” he left without another word.

Arasha also stood “go back to your room. Especially if you don’t want any canes like last time”

  “I know”

The separated after leaving the library, and both headed back to their respective rooms for the night.
