Non-Violence

Indhra stood beside a door while taking support from the wall behind him.

He heard a voice—a voice that showed him a glimpse; a glimpse of his past.

He remembered the time he was hitting a person with a stick. The person was injured and bleeding from various areas. His eyes had swollen up due to the constant assault on his body.

And then, the stick he was holding transformed into a sword with a slight blue light. He raised the sword and then aimed at the person below him.

Indhra bit his lip in fear, sorrow, and rage. Tears dripped from his eyes.

I... I will be better than that! He clenched his fist with a slight determination, overshadowed by rage and sorrow.

The voice he was hearing was the screams of a person whom Indhra had no clue about. He was even unsure of the person's existence a few minutes ago, but Indhra felt his pain.

Violence is never an option! But that is quite hypocritical. He thought of how many people he had killed in the past.

He got a vision of Shinsetsu, his wife, and Kyra. That was when another thought brushed his mind. They...They all had a family, just like me...

He wiped the tears on his cheeks as he heard the voice of the door crackling. The door beside him opened.

A few warriors stepped out of the room. They were all wearing a shirt. Behind it was a caligraphy, a caligraphy of an eagle spreading its wings all around the Earth.

The screams stopped. The sound of throwing a stick could be heard from inside the room.

A person with green eyes stepped out of the room. His forehead had a scar. His face had a line of blood, which he wiped using a waste cloth.

Pfft, Indhra made a sound which alarmed the green-eyed mortal. He looked to his right to see Indhra smiling at him with dry skin just below his eyes.

" Mister Mayor!" He said with a sarcastic tone. The mayor slightly chuckled with a smile after the horrendous act he had committed moments ago.

He turned his body right and spread his arms wide," You arsehole!" Indhra proceeded to move forward," How the hell are you?" Both of them gave each other a bro hug. This was a reunion after many months, so this made Hidoi a bit emotional.

Indhra backed off slowly after a few seconds," You free?"

Indhra and the mayor drove through the moody streets of Luvinia. The massive Castle behind them produced a shadow that was covering Indhra's car.

Slowly, as the distance between the castle and the car increased, the shiny surface of the car reflected sunlight.

This time, the bro was driving. Indhra was in the passenger seat. His chin rested on the mirror. His eyes gazed at the view of the rich people.

" So!" Hidoi, the mayor, questioned Indhra," Where are we heading first?" Indhra blinked once, then twice, then a third time. He lifted his right arm to see the time on his watch.

He gave a slight chuckle as he remembered Kyra and Shinsetsu gifting him this 'Linux' watch. Twenty thousand mega-units... He remembered how he felt sad after getting an expensive watch like this.

The shopkeeper had said that it is real gold... He remembered Shinsetsu's words. It was such a nice birthday! He chuckled at the nice thoughts.

Hidoi noticed it and decided to question him about it," Life's going too well?"

Indhra, still with a calm smile, replied," Well, no..."

" What happened now? You're still picking fights with brick or what?" He said with sarcasm, knowing well that Indhra was needling him.

Indhra remembered the times and just laughed at them. He turned his head right to meet Hidoi's eyes, who gazed at the road.

" How do you still remember that?" Indhra questioned him with a slight punchline he holding back.

" By remembering the crying face!" He said, trying to mock him a bit!" Indhra's expression changed.

" Hey! That was my line!" Indhra said with a slight, friendly anger.

" Well, you should be quicker!" Indhra slightly puffed his face to show his annoyance.

He lay back on the soft seat of the car. He laid his hands behind his head and crossed all ten fingers. He rested his head on his fingers while giving a delicate smile. He looked at the ceiling of the car and remembered the time. The time when these two trouble wreckers bought this car instead of stealing it.

But he also remembered how they both stole a portable car radio and fixed it in the car.

" Damn!" Hidoi commented on the look of the radio," You're still keeping it clean!" He turned his left eye at Indhra to say," I am feeling proud!"

Indhra chuckled and decided to brush it off.

" You still keeping me on, d**k!" Hidoi scoffed.

" Yeah...yeah!" He turned left to look out of the window to see 3 kids bullying another kid. " To the park!"

  *

Bright sun illuminated the man's face. Indhra was eating an ice cream, savouring every bite.

It was mid-summer, a common time to be eating ice cream.

*clap* Indhra remembered the sound his cheeks made after getting slapped by his mother. What a good time it was... A vision blocked his view of his mother. A blood-soaked vision where the man who Indhra was assaulting stood, fully covered in blood. He held a sword drenched in the emotions of Indhra's mother.

  Indhra's expression changed quickly.

The park was bright, green, and fresh in the air. Somehow, this area survived Taka's assault on nature.

The sunlight shone on his eyes, which were filled with determination.

He opened his mouth and licked the ice cream cone, then took a good bite out of it.

Hidoi, next to him, was eating a traditional Luvinia food, Kauru, a dumpling filled with fresh cream.

The Taka park was located just next to LNS, so this was the spot Indhra would hang out before picking Kyra from her school.

Indhra looked at the school at the far distance, partially blocked by students coming out of the main gate.

Weird! It was surely weird. Kyra always comes early, but why is she five minutes late? This question emerged in his mind.

" Hey!" Hidoi broke the awkward silence," You know, you're acting..." He took a pause," Different, these days..." He put extra effort while saying 'Different'.

Indhra turned right to meet his eyes. He put the rest of the cone in his mouth to let it savour the last bite. A drop of melted ice cream fell on the ground.

First Kyra, now you? He asked Hidoi in his mind, knowing Hidoi wouldn't respond to an imaginary question. " What do you mean?" He asked modestly, hoping Hidoi would give a good answer. But, knowing Hidoi, he didn't expect much.

" You're..." He looked at the sky while thinking of words to describe his feelings," Well...how to put this?" He smiled and looked back at Indhra," You're more...peaceful now!"

Huh! Indhra gave a blank expression. Hidoi understood that Indhra didn't get what he meant, so he changed the way he talked about his mind. He again looked at the sky, to think.

" Ahh..." He smiled and looked back at Indhra," You don't fight anymore!" Indhra's eyes widened with shock," I mean...you are not a ruthless murderer anymore..."

Indhra gave a slight smile and looked at the ground to see an ant savouring the drop of ice cream which had fallen on the ground earlier.

Savour every last bite! He remembered his father's words while they both had gone to a restaurant many years ago.

" Atleast..." Hidoi continued," You have changed since that incident!" Both of their smiles faded away like the picture of Indhra's mother in his mind.

The sound and intensity of the silence were loud.

A flower beside Indhra shook from its place and broke from its roots from the ground. The flower was a red poppy.

The red poppy beside Hidoi didn't flinch due to the wind, just like his determination to keep on fighting and violence.

Indhra decided to break the silence. He stood up from the joint chair they were sitting on.

He looked to his left with a bit of concern. Where the hell is she?

The sound of the police and ambulance blessed Indhra's ears. He wasn't dumb, so he ran, he ran towards the school.

The ambulance stopped just in front of the school.

Two people who were running away from the school were captured by the police as Indhra sprinted through the park. He jumped over the fence and crossed it.

He entered the school with the paramedics, but he was faster.

He ran through the corridors, the smell of blood that flew across the corridors blocked his senses, but he didn't stop.

  He turned a corner.

Kyra lay crumpled on the tile, uniform soaked crimson, face bruised and bleeding. The world tinted red.

His fists clenched until nails drew blood.

  Non-violence?

From this moment on, he would learn the answer.
