CHAPTER 7

Just then, the bell rang. Students burst into chatter, bags unzipping, chairs scraping, laughter bouncing against the walls. But Steve raised his voice slightly above the noise to finish his words:

"And remember... risk won't always give you happiness, even if it offers you comfort, or a stable lifestyle, think twice. Because sometimes a safe life without peace is the biggest trap of all."

Steve's final words were drowned under the wave of laughter, chatter, and the noise of bags being packed.

Isabella sat frozen in her seat, her heart replaying the words she did hear. Risk, if you think you can take it, go for it. Challenge yourself.

She hadn't caught his last cautionary line. The noisy classroom had stolen it aways. What stayed with her instead was the shining idea that maybe, just maybe, risk was her way forward.

That single thought rooted itself deep within her, quietly shaping the choice she would make next.

After a few more lectured, Isabella realized she hadn't absorbed a single word. Her notebook lay open, the ink barely filling half a page, but her mind was trapped on a single thought "Risk." Steve's last point kept echoing like a stubborn bell in her head. Risk can change your life. The more she repeated it in her mind, the more it felt like an invitation. A promise. Maybe, just maybe, taking a risk could shatter the dull routine she was chained to. Maybe it could even change her family's life.

By the time the lunch bell rang, Isabella still hadn't broken free from the whirlpool of thoughts. Some students rushed out of class, bunking the afternoon lectures. Others headed cheerfully toward the cafeteria. Isabella, however, stayed behind, her eyes distant, her lips pressed into a thin line.

"Isabella?" Sofia's voice cut into her daze. She was standing at the door, her tiffin box in hand, calling her best friend with a half-smile. "Come on, let's go. Cafeteria's waiting."

But Isabella didn't even stir. Her gaze was fixed somewhere far away, in a place only she could see. Sofia frowned, walked closer, and shook her shoulder gently. Isabella's eyes snapped open wide, startled, before meeting Sofia's worried stare.

"Huh? Oh – yes... lunch." She fumbled with herbooks, gathering them hurriedly. "We... we need to go." She slung her bag overher shoulder and briskly walking toward the cafeteria, her footsteps quick anduneven, almost as if she wanted to outrun her own thoughts.
