Soul Spark Resonance: 12.5% (+99 Soul Sparks)
Adjusted Soul Spark Reclamation: 891
Soul Sparks Reclaimed: 1409
The influx of Soul Sparks from Auntie V I expected. There’s only one explanation for the extra Soul Sparks - they must be from the powerful creature she was harboring, defeated in the end and overwhelmed by Auntie V’s Power. When she said she was going to try something, is this what she meant? More notifications flash, calling my attention.

I don’t know what Auntie V was trying to do, or if this was what she intended, but it seems like I’ve been given the chance to Reclaim a lesser version of her Power and a significantly lesser version of the creature’s Power. Without the creature’s Soul Sparks or some in my reservoir, I wouldn’t even have enough to make this possible. Is this why the Soul Sparks I Reclaimed this time felt so different, because Auntie V has infused them with Power?
I hit ‘N’ on Reclaiming Power Leech, even if it would make me stronger or give me an advantage. I’d never feel comfortable having an an alien Power from an evil being, especially one that ended up killing Auntie V. Even though some might say turning its Power around to defend humanity or do good would be the right ending to the creature’s life and justice, I don’t know if it’s what Auntie V wanted or was trying to do either. I reject it.
Auntie V’s Regeneration Power is a whole different story.

I never expected to be able to Reclaim Auntie V’s Power even though she was family, and I don’t know what to do. Would it be better to Reclaim it, or just to allocate all those Soul Sparks into Constitution, or allocate them to something else?
I don’t have time to think it through, but Reclaiming the Power of Vitalis feels right even if it’s not the best choice. It’s not about the Soul Spark Resonance, it’s about how it resonates with my soul and feelings. Without Auntie V’s sacrifice and death I would never have come to Saint Marianne’s and I might never have Awakened my Power. Without her willingness to gift me her Power I might not have this opportunity at all. This, I feel confident was something she either wanted or would want, if I could sit here and talk with her. I think it’s the right thing to do.

I hit ‘Y’ and feel the Soul Sparks flow out of my reservoir and suffuse me with warmth, changing me in ways I can’t follow even with my enhanced Perception and the new senses I have from Mana and Aura. After a short time the flow of energy through me dissipates and I’m left feeling even more energized than I’ve become accustomed to with my higher Constitution.
Congratulations!
You have been infused with a second Power - Regeneration!
New Power now integrated - Regeneration (Tier 3 Epic)
Health Regeneration Index now approximately Constitution multiplied by 100.
Your body will now undergo rapid reconstruction from severe trauma, including loss of limb. Catastrophic brain or heart damage not able to be recovered.
Health Regen Index + 49,395 (49,400)
Holy shit! No wonder Auntie V was able to recover from almost anything and her aura healed others, if this is the Tier 3 Epic version of this Power! I wonder how much Constitution other people with a Power like this have, and if they can add to it like I can. The combination of my Soul Spark Reclaimer Class and this Power is an incredible synergy. I’m not unkillable by any means and my Damage Reduction Index is still only 5, but Auntie V sure was right when she told me to put my Attributes in Constitution.
Thank you, Auntie V. I send a little mental prayer to her.
I look around and take a deep breath, then open up the last two notifications.
You have three Powers eligible for discovery by others at your option.
- Regeneration (Tier 3 Epic)
- Physical Enhancement (Tier 1 Major)
- Reclamation (Tier 1 Mythic)

Soul Spark reservoir: 800
Would you like to allocate your Soul Sparks?
(Y/N)
That’s a shitload of Soul Sparks and I’m not sure what’s going to happen next, but I’d be a fool not to allocate them now, alone in Saint Marianne’s after Vitalis disappeared after last being seen with me and an alien invasion that killed a bunch of cops and Supervillain henchmen.
Maybe not as alone as I thought. I can hear movement and voices outside room 300, although I can’t hear well enough through the door even with my enhanced Perception to hear who it is. The blue glow enveloping the room starts to flicker and I can feel in my bones that I’m not going to have long by myself before I get thrown into something chaotic. With a rush I dart into the corner of the room behind the door and crouch down, then open up my Status.
Feeling the pressure as the blue glow starts to fade and the volume of noise outside increases, I hit ‘Y’ to allocate my Soul Sparks and bring everything except Charisma up to 200, then put the last 36 Soul Sparks in Constitution, then confirm it.
I crash to the ground as golden light explodes from me and rips me apart, rebuilding me again and again as all of my Attributes are massively increased at the same time. The warm glow of healing and Soul Sparks means there’s no pain and I hope my Regeneration Power is helping me cope, but the discomfort is immense. I seize up as every cell in my body ripples and evolves.
Through the haze I’m vaguely aware that the door to room 300 blasts open and EDF troops pour in. They locate me instantly and zero in on me with Powers that bind me. Non-lethal weapons and other Powers try to stun me and rob me of the ability to move, but all they do is shock me back into the room and my head finally clears, my Regeneration working overtime.
“Infection possible!” someone shouts in a panic from my right. I can’t see who it is and more things hit me as my body continues to evolve. Darts pierce my toughened skin and inject me, scanners land beside me on the ground to probe me and provide them with a comprehensive readout.
“His cells are unstable!” someone else calls out. It’s surprisingly quiet other than the thump each time something hits me and the calls of the EDF troop to each other.
“Room clear!” another voice calls out. “No sign of Vitalis!”
“Calrik Corvin, we are detaining you under EDF authority as a potential global threat,” says a strong, clear male voice. This one I can see, as he looms above me in his EDF augmented armor, restraints in one hand and a very, very solid baton in the other.
It’s everything I’ve been worried about and a corner of my mind recoils, desperate to get away. Fuck all of you - I haven’t done anything wrong!
I can still feel the Soul Spark allocation taking hold, evolving me further and further. I try to roll over, to push past the binding Powers that hold me and they start to slough off, allowing me to move. My body is still trembling, but my massively increased Regeneration handles the changes with more and more ease as they happen.
“Detain him!” comes the order, and more binding and freezing Powers envelop me. They try to rob me of the ability to move, but I push past it and get to my hands and knees. Suddenly a massive blow to my back hammers me into the ground. Three EDF troopers hold me down then bind my arms and legs with restraints specifically made for people with Powers that augment their strength.
I lay there, angry and frustrated. The tension in the room is thick as they watch me like I might sprout another head and devour them whole. The transformation inside me finally ends and to say I feel more powerful now would be an understatement.
Notifications blink at me furiously.
Someone enters my field of vision as they bend down in front of me, but I can only see them from the knee down. I’m fully aware of how much shit I’m in. Ironic, since all I want to do is use these Powers to become a Hero.
“He’s alert,” says the person, and all around me the EDF troops shift their position at superhuman speed to ensure I’ve got no chance of moving a muscle without getting hammered.
“Compromised?” asks that same strong, clear male voice who told me I’m under arrest.
“Unknown. Let’s move him.”
