To all you apes running and hiding in this city! I’m sending you this message as a gesture of openness and transparency! Whilst you’ve been trying to crawl out of this ruin you call a city, you know, the one that’s been overrun with Ferals, we’ve been watching. We even decided to deploy our own forces to the city. Not a lot, but enough we can make a dent here and there, obtain some critical supplies before the Ferals break it all.
But critically, we’ve been putting our attention directly on you. Yes, you. Humans.
You may have heard that contact was lost with one of your evacuation centres near the city. No survivors. Killed by Feral attackers.
I am delighted to confirm that Ferals have not reached the evacuation centre at all!
We killed them!
That’s right ladies and gentlemen! We killed every last one of your disgusting, backstabbing ape friends! Anyone who resisted, well, credit to them for trying to fight back against us. Not that it would have made much difference. As for those who survived round one, don’t worry, we lined them up and skewered them one by one, including the kids! No need to worry about them getting turned into those freaks!
And trust me, we are only just getting started! If you thought you had trouble with the Ferals, well believe me, you’ve got another thing coming! We’ve been waiting too long for this…
If you haven’t already started screaming in panic, let me introduce ourselves. We are the Nyúlfur. We aren’t Ferals, we’re something… greater. True wolves. We’re greater than those beasts and far, far superior to you.
So go on, run and hide. Cower and scream. Payback is coming… and we’re gonna be paying all you stinking apes a visit. Very soon…
The Wolven Declaration, as announced to the survivors of San Francisco.
Although it was Ferals that emerged in the wake of the Retrovirus Outbreak and proceeded to devastate much of human civilisation during that event, they were not the only wolven creatures to make their presence known in that period. A species that was and is, in the eyes of many humans, considered far worse.
Before the Nyúlfur had officially revealed themselves, there were isolated and confused reports of other werewolf-like creatures appearing out of nowhere and attacking human positions. On its own, this wouldn’t have been cause for alarm. Afterall, humanity was fighting an uphill battle for its very survival against the Feral Hordes – Hordes that were currently overrunning cities and if not, using them as launchpads to begin new offensives into the surrounding countries. However, several analysts started noticing that these ‘Ferals’ were using human weaponry in their attacks.
Whilst this was a cause for concern, this was something that had started to emerge from the frontlines and after-action reports from survivors. Ferals had been seen trying to utilise weapons – at least very poorly – on a few occasions. However, the analysts started to notice differences in the reports. Indeed, the vast majority of those reports indicated that the werewolves involved in the attacks were well equipped and perfectly capable of handling human firearms and body armour. Not only that, but they had also repeatedly demonstrated far greater intelligence, the use of military tactics, multiple forms of verbal – and critically understandable – communication, items of clothing and/or camouflage and most notably… some were noted to be engaging Ferals directly.
These reports had mostly been buried under the bulk of Feral documentation coming through from the front, but the numbers of these abnormal reports continued to grow.

However, several months into the outbreak, the survivors and fighters of San Francisco tuned into a wide-reaching broadcast. It was at that moment; humanity became aware of the Nyúlfur. A group of werewolves standing separate from that of the Ferals, but if anything, were even more hostile to humanity. Ferals at least act out of instinct, or an urge to spread the Retrovirus. But the Nyúlfur actively desired to strike out at humans wherever they could.
The Wolven Declaration, as some have come to call it, was treated as essentially a declaration of war on humanity by the Nyúlfur. In the wake of the declaration, Nyúlfur attacks on human military forces and civilians rapidly escalated.
The Nyúlfur themselves are a species of werewolf like beings, albeit with no obvious signs of mutation compared to the Ferals they emerged alongside. From a distance, they would almost appear human, however, Nyúlfur are completely covered with fur, have digitigrade legs, tails and wolf heads, albeit with some small differences in the proportions of those heads, and the addition of hair not too different from humans. Whilst their origins are indeed a mystery, almost all documentation on human-Nyúlfur contact indicates hostilities were triggered by the Nyúlfur. The few cases where that didn’t happen was either in desperate circumstances against vast numbers of Ferals, or what are certain to have been subversion attempts that was called ‘aid and assistance’ on the Nyúlfur’s part.
Individually, a Nyúlfur fighter is a more than a match for practically any soldier or Feral on the battlefield. Male and female Nyúlfur alike have routinely been shown to be physically stronger, faster and better able to withstand damage than any conventional human. Standing at in excess of six foot eight at least, a Nyúlfur is capable of throwing around even the strongest and all but the heaviest of humans without any issue at all. Further still, Nyúlfur have been known to break or outright shatter bone with just a punch, and their kicks are powerful enough to kill humans with a single well-placed strike. Alongside this physical advantage, Nyúlfur are able to co-ordinate their efforts with a similar, if not superior efficiency to human forces and far in excess of most Feral packs. Furthermore, their tactics seem comparable to those of human militaries globally, albeit there is a significant tendency for Nyúlfur to come into combat not just with rifles, but also melee weapons ranging from swords to axes. As a final note, Nyúlfur have proven capable of challenging and handily defeating almost all Feral variants directly, with the notable exception of the Alpha variants.
However, despite their capabilities, Nyúlfur appear to be relatively few in number, especially compared to the vast numbers of Ferals. In addition, despite their physical capabilities, Nyúlfur appear to have the same vulnerabilities to humans. A significant number of shots to their core organs will incapacitate Nyúlfur, and headshots will still be lethal. However, outside of these critical shots, taking down individuals would still be a challenge.
Nyúlfur are almost never seen alone, often operating in fire team-equivalent units that are adaptable to most threats, and these can be coupled together into larger units that are capable of co-ordinated action. Military commanders have often noted that these are fairly similar to conventional human forces. These forces can often be deployed to key locations for search, recon or more often than not, used in hunting down Feral or human forces alike.
Much to the confusion of many, the word Nyúlfur appears to be derived from Icelandic, specifically meaning ‘new wolf’ in that language. Whatever or not this is some twisted joke on the Nyúlfur’s part or something else is beyond human knowledge, and the Icelandic government were as confused as the other governmental bodies, nor have they been made aware of a Nyúlfur presence on the island.
Regardless, after the Wolven Declaration, and the increased atrocities on human forces and civilian populations, many of the surviving governments, both old and new, made their own declaration in turn. A Kill Order would be placed on all Nyúlfur, regardless of their activities, and therefore human forces are expected to, if able, engage and destroy Nyúlfur as and when they are found. They are a direct threat to human civilisation and are to be treated in a similar light to the Ferals. To ignore this order without sound reason would be considered a crime to an outright act of treason by humans, and such humans would – and will be - shot.
As a final note, although there is much hearsay and rumour regarding the Nyúlfur and the Retrovirus, it is suspected that the Nyúlfur do not pass on the Retrovirus to humans. The reason why is unknown, but this does not override the Kill Order. Afterall, humanity will not be safe until the Nyúlfur are wiped off the face of the earth.
