Chapter 38
A Dentist’s Nightmare
Glug.
The massive anaconda like monster lunged upwards, cutting me off, and heading straight for its master, the Tamer that dared to bring it here while it was in the early stages of pregnancy. Worse, I could already hear the sickening sound of the pregnant monster biting down and almost sounding like it is choking on its master, as it widens and unhinges its massive jaw to better cover the tamer.
Pregnancy powers are apparently no joke in this world. I’m still pretty sure that the creature had to lay the eggs in its stomach first, then incubate them to life, but apparently just having them in her stomach was enough for her to awaken her maternal powers.
Powers that let it spit acid, try to hypnotize me into not moving, and now the ultimate pregnancy power. The ability to scarf down an entire meal’s worth of food in one massive bite.
At this point, I just stare at it in panic. Even as, I feel the massive beast flick its massive black eye back towards me. Its glare is a direct challenge to my authority. A challenge that all but dares me to try to save the tamer now. A tamer that had up until moments ago, been the only reasonable reason why we all assumed we were safe.
Seeing its direct glare, I realized it all but said I was next.
RAW-WWORR!
That’s when the phase panther growled to life, all but daring the monster to come at me. For coming at me, now meant the pregnant serpent would also have to deal with a large tank like mountain of muscle known as a phase panther.
Still, it wouldn’t be enough, as even now the giant snake continued to wiggle its way down, trying to fully inhale its former tamer. That’s when it happens.
SLINK!
I hear the crisp sound of a crisp sword slicing through metal. Then I see the moment it happens, a flicker of silvery light and suddenly a spray of blood beings pouring out to the far side of the ring, the side away from me. This is to the long thick torso, that is just above the resting spot for the first set of wings, but far below the outline of the still struggling in pain fueled horror tamer.
As it sprays, I can suddenly see the form of Mr. Yi appear, as if he had somehow managed to use an Obfuscation type Skill to remain unnoticed while he moved in for that one perfect strike.
Flutter, slink.
Being so close to the wing, the monster’s first response it to use its own wing for protection, whether the protection is to cover up the wound, or strike at Mr. Yi I will never know.
All I do know for certain is that the next movement I saw was a perfectly placed slice of a blade, one where Mr. Yi dropped under the thick protective outer bone of the massive wing, and instead twisted his blade up and through the linked membranes that linked the massive and hooked fingers that made up this creature’s wings.
Gruggle!
A sound that was halfway between a growl and a gurgle came out, as the beast that once deemed itself to be the undisputed king of the arena was now being cut low by a mere human.
Slither.

The giant flying serpent, now grounded and dealing with a massive hole in its neck swings its massive frame towards Mr. Yi. Who living up to his title as an expert, uses his opponents movement to his advantage and ends up hurdling over the sweeping neck. Making sure to kick off the neck and jump high into the air, despite the apparent give of the compressing and leathery surface of the neck.
Slink.
Jumping high into the air, Mr. Yi readies his blade as he twists his body, doing a 180 spin that would make Olympic pommel horse contestants jealous, aligning his body parallel to the ground, before quickly swiping his blade down, trusting in his own movement and the resistance of the serpent’s thick hide to allow him to readjust his body and land feet first, while applying as much force to the site of the impact as possible.
Pop.
At that, the neck of the massive beast is completely severed, as air begins to pour into the exposed neck cavity. I’m honestly not sure of what caused the popping sound, all I know is that sound was my moment to move.
I am already surging past, and under Mr. Yi’s body that has already resumed a defensive posture. I do make sure to tap him gently on the back, a subtle sign that I am going past him. His body tenses up slightly at my touch, but his quick gaze down lets me know I’m okay, and not going to be sliced down while going towards the now open section of the neck. My Eagle Eye Skill coming in, as my only sign of his gaze, a quick movement of the shadow caused by the movement of his head.
Thump, thump.
There are other sounds too, sounds of multiple feet all charging forward. While Mr. Yi had been the first to strike, now that the threat is over, more and more people are coming to the rescue.
While I crawl inside the sludge and slime infested neck area, others are working too. Mr. Yi is battling off the still functional front left wing of the serpent, while Markan is busy putting his knife to good use by cutting open a slit down the leathery hide to help fully reveal the victim.
Meanwhile, I am already at work, my Trash Skill working overtime as it begins burning away slime, still burning corrosive acid burns, and of course dark snake blood.
Even inside the massive beast, I can feel the want for life coming from this monster. Even now, I could almost feel my magic telling me that it is not beyond saving. That said, I d not want to be the one who tries to save a once decapitated snake. Not even certain if it is possible, let alone if it would cause the snake to lose that look of provocation that it held towards me moments ago.
“Rarwowrr!”
I even hear the injured but apparently still effective phase panther Lady at work. The sounds of combat sound like she is working in unison with Mr. Yi to perform the most damage possible.
It takes a minute, and while we are only talking about a thin coat of corrosive acid primarily to the front of the poor tamer, I can feel that her life force is fading. Also, it took a lot of my base Mana to get the remainder of the corrosive gunk away. Fortunately, my wild class modified Skill, Golden Life Ratio Mana Regeneration* seems to have been perfectly made for just such an occasion as it all but forced me to have Life Mana. Mana that could only be used to begin its mana regenerating process, and to activate Rejuvenation Healing, both of which I begin pumping out at full blast.
By now, my mind speed runs through the Fibonacci sequence, “remembering the cycle and easily working through the computations, “one, one, two, three, five, eight, thirteen…”
Each rotation of Golden Life Ratio Mana Regeneration* a breath, and a recommitment on my part to casting Rejuvenation Healing on the target. A target whose skin is mostly melted off by now, and who even in the dark looks rather pitiful.
Light.
Then finally, Markan and a few others manage to cut away the outer layer of still wildly twisting and convulsing skin that is the beast’s head. Even dead, it clings to life, but now I can see that it’s spark is slowly fading, while its Tamer’s is increasing.
I’m still working, my body never leaving the ground, while everyone works over and around the two of us. Meanwhile I can see movement outside, as apparently the stagehands that are trying to rescue the Tamer are in place and beginning to pull.
Whimper.
There in the confined space, where even our breathing can be heard echoing back to us, that is when I hear the tamer whimper pathetically.
Hearing that defeated sound, I fully understand where she is coming from. I mean she lost a pet, and her pet that she had been training and had this possibly amazing bond with attempted to burn her down with acid and eat her. That said, this is not the place, nor the time to have a full-blown breakdown, which is why I decide to try to cut it off early.
Tap, smack.
“Hey, focus up here,” I say, forcing the girl whose face is slowly being regrown back, while clumps of her once beautiful hair are burnt off or singed entirely. Unfortunately, I do not know how to regrow hair, which is not going to help this trauma momma any more. That said, the last thing anyone wants to hear is that their first vision after having their face and body mostly melted off was is that they were seen ugly crying. And in her state, there is no chance at pretty crying, at least not at the moment.
“It’s going to be okay, you can get other pets,” I begin, my mind scrambling frantically for some good news in all of this then I grasp onto a ray of hope. “You can use one of its unlaid eggs to start a new pet to terrorize the wayside.”
“What?” The tamer asks, visibly confused for a moment, before shaking off my thoughts. “No, its teeth are recurved inward, meaning when they pull me--”
“HEEVE!” A group of people from outside the maw of the snake call out, and then I can see it, a new level of nightmare fuel, but proof that this creature shares some similarities with the anacondas from my old world as there are rows upon rows of razor sharp recurved teeth that all glint and gleam like fish hooks, all dangling down and threatening to rip anyone who tried to exit the same way they entered.
“GAHH-AHHH!” The tamer cries out, and suddenly I fully understand.
“WAIT, WAIT!” I shout, fully slithering out backwards, before getting up and waving at the crew of stage hands and rescuers to stop.
Everyone pauses, but then I point to where I just came out from, “you need to pull her out from there!”
Silence.
With that everyone just pauses, staring at me like I am speaking a lost foreign language. That’s when I nurses voice, the one developed over two lifetimes that knows how to ask nicely for favors.
“NOW!”
And like that, they finally started acting correctly.
