Reviving took a bit. Considering I had to do it twice after Mags gave a bit too strong of a hug. Bleeding five constitution makes me brittle…even with mithril bones. My few words have moved from spider me to this me. I think the worst part is we can't have that wine yet.
Red is busy playing with void constructs. She hoped a new core would make me less vulnerable.
-You should be making them too, not like you can't access that core.
I roll my eyes and make a middle finger void construct and wag it in front of her face. Juvenile? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. I smile. Then I get a familiar burning in my chest.
-Double worth it.
You have gained [Void Mana Core] Master 1
Master - A new physical core. Gain a new tail to divide between yourselves each level
Gain 96 exp
Seems you have been greedy with our tails sister. Her eyes widen as I drain our main void core to fill my own. Seems our physical core is half the size of our soul one though with the soul void core newly grown it was less than half full. I only need to spend a bit of my reserves to ignite my physical void core. When I do I feel a new tail emerge behind me. Its color is black or dark? I'm not sure.
While I ponder the infinite, my body strengthens. Red hugs me gingerly. My return hug is stronger which only emboldens her. She slows down when she hears a creak. I just laugh.
-Guess we don't have to wait a hundred years.
Suppose not. Might be why your blood tail makes you bigger than me.
-Can't check at the moment.
I know.
She is staring at me. Her right eye is slightly milky.
-Your left is just as bad.
Her stare is starting to become a glare.
Fine, Said come over here.
“Lady Dungeon, you only just got me a tail back and you wish to claim it already?”
She is sporting her own infinite darkness tail. I just nod, get in me already. She instead boops me on my nose.
My head rears back as I feel my body burn away. I feel myself being everywhere in my aura.
-Sister?
I pull myself together. My body forms, my blood first. My various victim's eyes open. I can see out of them. A kaleidoscope of various levels of perception. Finally my own eyes open and all the others shut. Nothing else forms. No bone, no muscle, no nerves, no brain. I'm just…blood?
I look at my hand. It is in the shape of a hand. Five fingers…four fingers…no fingers…
-Sister!
The fingers return as Red distracts me.
“Sorry. This is weird, Red.”
She looks … concerned? I can't really feel her emotions…actually I can't feel my emotions. I am the void and I am freed. Finally free of it all. I should be cackling madly about this, yes? I start but I grow bored of it.
-I think you should separate and rethink this form a bit, sister.
I tilt my head towards her. The blood merges with my shoulder. I formed a new head. But I'm free. Free of everything. Not even the thirst reaches…nooo it's still there. Almost completely free. Far superior to before. I won't feel bad about eating anyone.
-Would it feel good though?
Doesn't matter. Free. Said floats in front of my … face? She flicks me in the forehead.
The rest of my body reforms around my blood. Systems, that was intense. I'm sorry sister, I had learned nothing from when you first did this.
-That was a little scary. You seemed possessed.
So did you. How did you combat the mental changes?
She thinks about my question for a moment.
-I feel that even though I have to adopt mental tics and mannerisms, I need to still be true to myself inside. Clearly the void is tapping into your desire to be free of our emotional burdens…also the whites of your eyes are violet. I think your blood is in your eyes.
Really? I hitch up my dress so my lateral eyes can see my face. Both the lateral and my own eyes are indeed filled with ultra violet hued blood. I willed it out. Let go. And they go back to being swamped. Alright other attention, time to continuously keep my eyes cleared. Just the face ones.
-I feel our kineses is going to level again.
Maybe it will stop when I gain other tails. I suspect that I have our second fire tail.
Red smiles at that.
-So about void.
Right…it frees me from my emotions but I still want my emotions. Perhaps I simply need to adopt the mental capacity of a space elf. Right, logical detached, still emotional but in control. Alright, Said boop me up.
She does.
I once again need to reform but it happens faster. No need to waste time at it.
-Oh my systems you gave yourself his brow.
Red is beside herself laughing. When I give that iconic quirk of the brow it just causes her to cackle. Her laughter just makes me give a small curt smile. When she finally finishes. I give her the specific finger pose which gives her the giggles.
-Stop it, I assume you're still in there if you goofing around.
“Of course, it would not do to lose myself again.”
-You know, Mags was always afraid we would become a blood slime.
“Incorrect, she feared we would divide our soul through a process similar to cell mitosis.”
-You even sound like him.
I give her a wry grin.
“Said, you can have your tail back.”
Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
She floats up and nods. Another flick and another reforming of the rest of my body.
Are you not able to talk when I assume a tail Said?
“‘Fraid so Lady Blood.”
That one's new.
-Your eyes, Violet.
Ah shit right. I pull the blood from my eyes again. What happened to dungeon?
“Not exactly capable of birthing at the moment.” Said deadpans.
-Aren't we both blood anyways?
“Sanguine?”
The moment I suggested it, the core of my soul shook. My sister hugs me as I feel an old geas fray. We are still Sara Maxwell Magdeline. I can feel my sister think the same. We are still—
“Keep telling yourselves that, the sisters Sanguine.”
My soul etches as she playfully twirls. The geas remains over top of our new name.
-Family name…
Clan name…
-Bloodline…
Yes, bloodline. Fine, what's another name?
Lea is next to us.
“The hell you do now?”
“Whats your full name, Lea?” Said asks the former Elf.
“It's just Lea…why the fuck did I just think my name is missing something.”
-You ask what we did…
“So what the system is my name then?”
“Lea Sanguine.”
She shutters at my pronouncement.
“So do you two got new names too or just this weird surname that I can't not think of as my own. Systems, you're making me part of your insanity.”
“Not fair, you begged to join the sisters Sanguine insanity. They know the rest of their names but they won't say them. I'll give you a—”
I grab Said and look at her. My glare is fierce and she calms down. Enough mischief for one day.
“Right shouldn't be giving out true names.”
I nod and let her go.
-It’s almost time for Qorth match.
I giggle, never enough time.
-----
“I see Violet has gained the tail you were hoping for.”
I look back at Violet, then Mags, confused.
“Her robe pushes out, silly.” Cecelia chides.
Oh, right. I form a new set of stands and before I can climb them Mags remakes the sign.
“Every bit helps, dear.”
I sigh but take position at the bottom, ready to heal more. Violet sits next to me and nudges me.
-You can do it, sister. Get us back to twenty twenty.
Pretty sure our vision is way past that but sure. You best make sure to root for Qorth while I am knee deep in bum knees. I do so hope she becomes a dragon knight.
-She'll have to leave us then…
Not forever, besides dragon knight.
-Your right, we can skip those awkward teenage dragon years and skip straight to bad ass dragonrider posters.
I smile as another scraped knee approaches.
-----
Healing is good for the soul. I can feel the warmth return for each person she pushes our blood into. The only thing is it feels like we gain less than what we lost when we killed an undead rabbit. Rather lopsided. Then again killing is final while healing can be done multiple times. I watch as the line moves.
How are you not getting thirsty?
-Blood magic two removes the thirst requirement for healing others.
That is, like, unambiguously good. She giggles.
-It's what I thought too.
Makes me afraid of what the next one will say.
-Don't be jinxing us.
Sorry, oh they seem to be almost done talking.
“Our final match Sir Bastion Undaq against Lady Qorth.”
Not a dame just yet but already a lady. I smile. Get him, Qorth.
Her blunted spear is at the ready. Her opponent sports a shield and sword. She probes his defenses but he repels her. He forms a dirt spear and it begins to spin. After so many rotations it fires at Qorth. She attempts to dodge to the right but finds a dirt wall had been grown to block her path. The spear rams into her left shoulder. The crowd cheers. I wince as Qorth is only holding her spear in her right hand now. She turns her body to have her left shoulder in front ready to thrust with her right.
“I've shattered your shoulder, there is no shame in being second placed.” The smug bastard mocks Qorth.
-Should have been a life mage before saying that.
I smile as I watch the fool get closer to Qorth. His eyes were wary of the spear. Qorth slowly retreats. He should have been watching her feet. He steps in webbing she left on the ground. When he finds himself unable to lift his left foot, he looks down. Qorth grabs his shield arm with her left hand and thrust her spear into his right shoulder.
“‘Fails to notice’, there is no shame in losing to me.”
The shoulder shatters. He screams. The crowd is jubilant. The man tries to retreat, but he is still stuck. He forms a dirt wall between him and Qorth. She lets go and pulls back. She rotates around the wall, her left hand gripping her spear. He dissolves the wall and prepares another to stop her advance. She pulls the threads in her hand feet. It twists the man's leg and he is on his side. He is tenacious though. More dirt spears form, they are spinning faster. They look sharper.
He aims to kill her.
Cecelia places a hand on my shoulder. I want to intervene. The grip tightens
“But—”
“Trust her.”
She must have felt my panic. It's hard but I settle and watch. The projectiles fire. Multiple dirt constructs form and blunt the spears before they reach Qorth. They still hit at a decent speed but they were bruising not piercing. An ooo sounds out from the crowd. She begins to reel her prey even as the knight forms more spears. A quick jerk pulls the man off the sticky thread, the pain from his wrenched leg causes him to lose focus and the spears fall apart. Instead two dirt constructs form on either side of Qorth and speed towards her. They halt at the edge of Qorth mana aura. She drags him into range, as the constructs quiver against her aura. Qorth places her spear at his throat. He closes his eyes.
“I yield.”
The crowd roars.
-----
Qorth was led to the noble section. The upper echelons are ready to claim her. Mags rubs my back. It's a bit bittersweet but I'm happy for her. I'll have to tease the newest Dame this evening. We wait for the crowd to leave the stands. I continue to heal the line as they do. I can actually see the end of it. I smile at that.
When the last one is finished I lower the stands and notice Gregory moping about. I look at Mags.
“You sure? Cecelia was rather wary of him after his performance.”
I just smile and nod. She shrugs and bellows to the man.
“Young Gregory, come here, my daughters are in need of a knight.”
He is both surprised and annoyed but hustles over. He gives me a glare but speaks evenly, “[Countess], I am not worthy of your favor.”
“You're not. Call me Mags. Cecelia here, will make sure one day you will be.”
He gulps. Cecelia gives him a look of contempt. Guess he is in for it now. Probably shouldn't tell them how we first interacted.
-----
Qorth enters the dungeon with a giant egg webbed to her back. Gregory is off to the side visibly sore on his first day of training.
“Dame Qorth, congratulations on your knighting and victory. Whose house has claimed you?” Mags asks.
She is a bit embarrassed but murmurs, “[Marques] Zindinhar has taken me in.”
That earns a scowl from Mags but I walk up and place a hand on her arm.
“Good man.”
I truly believed that. An annoying man. An asshole. Brutal. He may have not trusted me but his conviction was always to protect his country. I sigh. Besides, if he treats her wrong, I can always kill him.
“Did none of the higher houses wish to claim you?” Cecelia asks.
“They were leery of my lack of a surname and of my unknown race.”
Nobles, I get the race part but boo hoo a commoner has risen into their ranks. I shrug. I pour some blood wine for her. She gladly accepts.
-----
“I'm ready to move forward, my Ladies.” She places the egg down.
I turned to her. Are you sure? She nods. I flood the throne room with air and pull her into it with Violet. She is kneeling in that awkward Tibyder stance. My horn forms on my brow. Violet grows hers as well. Neither of us form the spider.
“This last rite you get to choose between having one body or two.” Said speaks for us.
Qorth eyes widened at her pronouncement. She thinks on that, hesitates, then comes to a decision.
“I will be two then, one can remain to serve while my other can go to house Zindinhar.”
I sigh and turn to leave. My horn is returning. As does Violet’s.
“My ladies, why?”
Violet speaks, “Lies to self.”
She grows annoyed, “I know I might be unhappy but I owe a great deal to you. Why can I not show my devotion through sacrifice?”
I walk to her and hold her face. Violet is next to me.
What sort of mother would I be to accept such.
She pulls us both into a hug and cries, “Too young to be my mother.” We rub her back. “Is it truly alright?” She murmurs.
Our horns return, Said intones once more, “This last part is about trust, Qorth. The ladies will drink you dry. That includes that final drop of blood you have of her. It needs to be the last drop or you will cease to exist. Convert your body to blood and give your everything for this. Are you ready?”
She nods and both Violet and I bite into her shoulders. Her blood drains, her body deforms. Slowly but surely she becomes blood to feed to us. My hand is interlaced with sisters. Our blood and Qorth become one. Soon she is gone and we stand alone. We reform her body. Singular. When her lungs form I place my ring trinkets into them. We continue the work until her body is whole. Violet flicks her forehead.
She rears back wide eyed. She pats her body. “You've divorced yourself from me.” She grows sullen on the realization.
Violet touches her shoulder, “Qorth Sanguine.”
The freed vampire shudders at the name. She has a sad smile. Said flits by.
“The Ladies have freed you to be your own woman. You can always drink her blood to forever tie yourself to her.”
She thinks on that, “I will do so when I enter her service. For now mothers, keep an ear out for tales of my valor.”
We smile, teary eyed smiles.
