"From what we have found," Dan started the briefing once they returned to the bridge. He kind of considered changing the location of their meetings later on, but for now, the bridge would have to do. "In this world, you get linked to the system at the age of 15, and get a list of Classes based on the activities you took till that moment."
After they gathered as much information as they could, they met up again and double-checked with each other. Dan wrote the statements and classified them based on how often they appeared. Fortunately, it seemed that what they were asking about was considered common knowledge, so there were no major differences between what they had gathered. Mostly some differences in how those statements were explained.
At that moment, most of the crew and some of their families were gathered to listen to what he had to say, he also made sure that everyone else would get a briefing about it too later on. The system and everything it included became an important part of their life as soon as they made it to this world, and they had to take it seriously.
"For almost all Classes, each time you level up you get a skill choice, you can take the skills or skip them as you see fit. Now here is where things get interesting," Dan stopped to make sure that he had everyone's attention before continuing, "It seems to be a universal fact that the highest level you can reach is level 100. The more you level up the more experience you need to reach the next level and the harder it is to gain them. Another point that needs attention is that with each level up you get a bit stronger and your body healthier. It's a tiny bit, but it's there.
"Returning to the skills, as I said you get one skill each level. But after level 10 instead of choosing a new skill, you can raise the tier of a skill you have. Raising the tier of a skill would make it stronger or in some cases even evolve it in some unexpected ways. Each 10 levels is a tier, from level 1 to 10, it's tier 1, 11 to 20 is tier 2 and so on. Which means that you can upgrade a skill up to 10 times.
"Here is when skipping skills comes into play. If you don't skip any of your first 10 skills selection at all, in level 11 you can either choose to raise the tier of one of your skills, and in that case, everything is alright, not much of a problem. Or, choose another skill, and in that case, a problem would arise. Your 11th skill would be considered a tier 1 skill and you would only be able to raise its tier in the next tier, tier 3 from level 21 to 30. And you have to raise its tier if you want to raise the tier of your other skills to the 3rd.
"On the other hand, if you skip a skill selection, and let's say, only choose 7 skills in the levels from 1 to 10, and you choose your 8th skill in the 2nd tier, as soon as you acquire it, it would automatically get raised to the 2nd tier. And it's the same for future tiers."
"How much of a difference do the tiers make?" Diana, Robert's wife, asked, "I mean, is it really worth it?"
"You must be thinking, would 10 skills really be better than 100?" Dan nodded at her, he too had that question when he heard about the tiers for the first time. And he was about to relay to the crew what he found out, "I mean, even the tier 1 skills we have now are useful and having 100 of them seems way better than having only 10. But I got told, along with most of those who went to gather these pieces of information, that there could be no comparison between them. The tier 10 skills are just that unbelievable it seems. A tier 10 skill would be so different from a tier one that you would find it hard to believe they are the same. They get stronger and broader in scope."
Dan looked around and saw that some of them still had frowns on their faces, as if unsure about what he was saying. Dan usually would have let it go at that, he didn't get himself into his crew's private matters, and he kind of felt that their skills should be considered just that. But the situation they were in needed them to make the best choices possible just for a chance to survive, he didn't want them to waste that without knowing.

"I get what some of you are thinking," He started, "There's no need to minmax this. 100 different skills would still be enough, and it is enough for most people in this world. They just choose whatever skill they can get and are happy with having whatever skills that help them with their daily lives. But we aren't in that situation. I don't know about you but I don't want to be under the control of any of the powers in this world, nor do I want to be a slave, a sitting duck for them to do whatever they want with. For that, we need to make good choices and try our best to build ourselves for whatever is coming.
"I strongly recommend you think deeply about your skills and how you want to build your Class, it might be the difference between our survival and death in the end."
"Now then," He continued after saying what he had to, "Keith will take the stage and tell you all about what she found from the navigator and what we are going to do next. Keith if you would."
Keith nodded as she stepped up and stood next to him, dragging a whiteboard with her. Dan wondered if he too should have used something similar to help with his explanation, but it was already too late for that. Keith first greeted everyone lightly before starting with a serious expression.
"There are a few beachside villages close by," She first drew a simple boat at the top of the whiteboard. Dan leisurely noted how horrible it seemed, but he held himself from commenting, he doubted that observation of his would be appreciated. "Some are just a few hours away, while others are even closer than that. Our target for dropping off the natives is less than an hour. The waters next to it have no reefs and it's a calm shore."
She drew a wiggly line below the ship, marking a few locations on it by drawing small houses on the line, and circled one that was right below the ship. Dan again kept his comments about the quality of the drawing to himself.
"We will wait till nightfall before moving. The Voyager will stop a few miles away from shore while we would use a tender to drop them off. The drop is far enough from the village for the tender to return to the ship without any accidents." Here she stopped and circled another village on the wiggly line, one that seemed quite a bit away from the first one, "Our next target after that should be this. It's another village that has the same advantageous conditions as the first one. And it's far enough from any big cities or centres of power for the Empire."
"And we will head there for....?" A voice sounded from the crowd and Dan turned to see one of the oldest people amongst them, Tiffany, Luke's mother, and one of the people who were invited to the party before everything flipped over. Dan saw the engineer pat his mother's shoulder, but the old lady just kept on looking at Keith questioningly.
"Because we need more information about this place," Dan was about to step up and help, but Keith answered before he could, an edge to her voice and expression. "We need maps, we need knowledge about the known safe routes and the forbidden zones in this vast ocean. I've talked to Rob, the navigator, and I've found that the waters in this world aren't as safe as ours, one simple mistake can end up with us as fish food, or I guess monster food is more accurate."
Dan held back a smile at his first officer's blunt words, but then he advanced and took the spotlight from Keith.
"I'm with Keith in this, but we don't have to do any of that now. We aren't in a hurry, we will first drop the passengers before deciding when to go there, so don't worry."
Everything dealt with, Dan let everyone go back to whatever they were doing or to consider what he had just said. He signalled to Robert to meet him on the side. The man nodded back as he walked over.
"So what is it?" His chief officer asked once they were in a secluded enough corner.
"See about preparing a tender to drop the passengers at the shore," Dan started his orders, "One is going to be more than enough. Also, speak with Marcus and see who's going to be on it and which of the guards will go with them."
Tenders were boats that were used by them to drop passengers on shore. They were strapped to the side of the ship and were deployed and recovered by a lift. The Voyager had two types of tenders, ones that could carry up to 75 passengers, and the bigger ones that could carry up to 150.
"Okay, was on it already," Robert nodded, "I've talked with William about checking the tenders in case anything is wrong with them. I will also have Dex take a look at their electronics. They are going to be ready once we reach the village, well, if nothing is wrong with them that is."
"Good," Dan patted him, "That's all we can wish for for now."
All that dealt with, Dan turned his attention to something he had been putting off for a while now, choosing his skills.
