Reigen Lawyet spoke to me for the first time. His mouth was smiling but eyes gave me a glimpse of a cold stare, scanning and trying to read me. Like he was staring into my soul, peeking what’s behind my eyes.
I never saw these kinds of eyes in Shin’s face and never could imagine this face could produce this kind of feeling. Cold and watching eyes peering inside me.
“I’ve been looking forward to seeing you too!” I smiled back sweetly, pushing that uneasiness down. “I’m sorry I missed you at the presentation!” I played ignorant to all my feelings and decided to be nice.
Reigen’s eyes dropped this coldness instantly which he was sure, I did not catch. Now warmly smiled looking at me up and down. Then towards his brother.
“She may be out of your league!” He made a comment towards his brother.
The previous vibe is totally gone. As if trying to mask it coolly.
Shin only smiled a bit awkwardly. I could see Reigen glancing behind me and then back at me.
“I actually wanted to have a chat with my brother's girlfriend. Alone.” Reigen requested. He wanted me to follow him somewhere more quiet.
“It's a little loud to talk here isn’t it?” Shin spoke up weakly.
“It’s fine there.” Reigen motioned to the opposite side of the boots. Further away where there were less people. Opposite side of where the booth Athena, Rio and Itsuki sat at.
“I will steal her from you for a moment!” Reigen told Shin.
“Don’t scare her.” Shin gave a light warning. Then he came closer to me and put an arm on my back.
“If he is making you uncomfortable just don’t go.” Shin looked for my affirmation.
I smiled.
“It’s okay. Let him do his thing.” I replied and then turned towards Reigen.
Shin kissed my cheek again. His hand lightly brushed my back. I happened to grab it and moved closer to give him a kiss right on the lips. A long and uncomfortable feeling stirred inside me as I kissed Shin. A feeling I never felt around him. This only made something inside me drop. Shin… I wish you didn’t.
Shin was nervous but he quickly pulled back. Then turned over leaving me with his older brother.
“Let’s go!” I said looking at the brother.
Reigen motioned for me to follow him. The opposite way we walked. I followed his brother interested in what he had to say to me. If I had to be totally honest. I had no clue what was really going on here.
Shin left and joined the table where Athena and others sat. I didn’t watch him as my eyes were following his brother. We both sat down on a table in front of each other. Reigen was smiling but his eyes were back to that cold stare, this time feeling more intimidating.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“Will this be some sort of don’t break my brother's heart speech?” I tried to play as if I didn’t suspect anything. Trying out the lighthearted approach.
Reigen chuckled at my question. Shaking his head. “I wish it was but no!”
“No?” I played it cool. My eyes looked into his eyes. Waiting for what he wanted to say to me.
“What are you doing here?” Reigen asked me a question.
“Athena…my friend invited me to hang out.” I responded.
“Not that. What are you doing in Akasia?” Reigen rephrased his question.
“Why do you care what I am doing here?” I didn’t answer him. Instead asked a question back.
“Let’s say I have sort of an obligation to know this.” He said to me cryptically.
“I don’t follow.” This whole situation was weird to begin with. Why would this random guy want to know this? Why is Itsuki approaching me? Why does Athena suddenly want to be friends? Why is Shin acting out of place while being next to his brother? Why did Yuji suddenly change his attitude? What's so special about me?
“Just answer the question and I may answer a question of yours!” Reigen wanted me to give him the answer. The vibe grew more intense. The face he had was so seriously piercing in my eyes. Like trying to peek into my thoughts.
“To study here!” I plainly said.
“Mhh, to study?” Reigen put his hand on the table tapping his fingertips on the table with a slow motion looking at me and thinking.
“Can I be part of this conversation?” A question appeared from behind me. The voice belonged to Yuji. He appeared out of nowhere and pulled a chair to sit down. Reigen only eyed him. Not saying anything. Not surprised by his sudden appearance. Rather he expected it.
I watched as Yuji sat down in the middle of me and Reigen.
“Here! Have this!” Yuji pulled me a yellow envelope. The same looking one he gave me the other day.
I eyed him hesitantly.
Reigen eyed the envelope puzzled look in his eyes. I could see he wanted to say something but didn’t only watch me.
Yuji wore a big smile like he usually did. Waiting for me to take his bait.
I silently reached out my hand and opened the envelope. When I opened it there was a file that listed everything about me. From where I was born. Grew up in. Information about my parents and even grandparent names from mothers side.
“You are a really creepy person.” I said slowly. My eyes read everything. There was something in there that caught my attention. What was important in these documents was Sano’s file. Sano Evans. Later Sano Aisaki. The information on his file only began from the date when he met my mother. Any information regarding where he comes from was not there. Similar or rather opposite way my file stopped from the day I moved here and my mothers as well.
I looked up at Yuji.
“What is your real name?” I asked a question that completely threw off both of them.
Reigen’s smile grew unexpectedly wide as he heard the question I just asked. His eyes locked with Yuji’s who laughed out loud hearing my question.
“What? Is that really your question after seeing that?” He was humoring himself with this.
I only eyed him waiting for his answer.
“You know so much about me. I think it’s only fair.” I sheepishly added my hand playfully moved the papers. I put them down on the table. There was no point to read further.
Yuji only looked happy about my reaction.
“Yukari Winters. My pleasure to officially introduce myself to you, Rory Aisaka!” Yukari Winters extended his hand. Wanting to shake hands. He looked genuinely glad for this to happen. Like he already wanted to stop living by this Yuji persona. I could now see the different vibe he had. The way Yuji acted was rather annoying but the way Yukari gave a glimpse to himself was more cunning. I felt more danger from Yukari than from Reigen, even though Reigen was the one giving me the intimidation.
I didn’t extend my hand to him and he took his hand away. A picture was building in my mind. An elaborate scheme to watch me. That’s what they were doing. Just watching me and taking information about the person I am. Reigen had the same agenda as Yukari.
