CHAPTER 169: | THE STATE OF THE TWO WARLORDS

  ---

"Hmm, the battle is getting more and more interesting..." said an unknown figure who was watching the war that had been going on for months from a distance, observing it all from afar.

Meanwhile, in the Peta encampment, the military personnel were systematically doing their chores in the most efficient ways possible, they were carrying out those chores with systematic efficiency.

The cooks cooked their signature dish that would invigorate the soldiers when eaten, preparing that invigorating dish, while others baked breads from wheat garnished with spiritual herbs in the kitchen, baking those breads garnished with spiritual herbs.

On the other hand, the medics or those who possessed medical knowledge could be seen stitching the wounds of the military personnel, or perhaps when the wounds became too infested with bacteria, they would rather amputate them to save the personnel.

Though the process wasn't so peaceful or something these medical personnel would want in this warzone where supplies were short, or where they had no manpower to spare to care for a single injured military personnel to nurse them back to health.

They were left with no choice as they've asked those proficient in swordsmanship to cut their infested limbs, thus eliciting muffled screams from the military personnel undergoing this treatment. And the others outside the tent flinched every time they've heard it from time to time, since they know that their turn would be next if they weren't so lucky.

But back inside the tent, the medics hastily brought three types of herbs with two of them being poisonous, while the other one would neutralize the effects of the other two to the degree of only numbing their pain so that these military personnel could calm down and get some rest.

While the three priests that their governor managed to bribe from the Holy See, donned in their priestly robes, would heal their wounds so that these poor men could rest easy, allowing them to rest with ease.

Inside one of the tents of the Peta kingdom barracks, ten commanders were arguing amongst themselves on which bases should they aid, or their problems on the supply chain that should be sent to their camp every three days but had not arrived for ten days.

Their suspicions grew that something must have happened in their kingdom like an invasion, or, worse, there was internal conflict among their governor's incompetent heirs since how could the military supply chains that had been at war with their neighboring kingdom been so mysteriously cut off for nearly two weeks.

But before they could come to a conclusion on what happened to their supply chains, or if their kingdom was undergoing an unprecedented crisis, all of them collectively turned their heads to their governor who could be seen mounted on his horse. Donned in a heavy armor that weighed a few thousand tons as he gazed through the gap of his helmet, then he lifted his hand as all of the commanders made their way to their governor.

While all of the military personnel stopped all of their actions as they've watched their governor point his hand at the distance that was miles away from their base, and he barked out his commands. "The Loikas are brazenly invading us!!! Military personnel of the Peta kingdom, prepare yourselves for an ambush!!"

All of the military personnel collectively nodded at their governor's command as the ten commanders dispersed, then led their troops as they've directed their subordinates to move with the shield bearers clad in their heavy armors that weighed tens of thousands of tons being the first. As they've marched forward menacingly before they've positioned themselves in a shield formation, forming a hexagonal shield position that spread all over the frontlines leaving no gap to exploits.

Then, followed by the shield bearers were the agile personnel directed by their commanders as they've slipped out of the other military personnel moving through the barracks, as they've vanished into the sand ready to ambush the oncoming Loika cavalry.

While the bowsmen and bow maidens positioned themselves at the walls as they've prepared their bows then stared at the distance, all of them possessing hawk-like vision stared at the three hundred cavalries charging at their barracks. Led by a single man at the forefront which they've recognized as Kairo, the governor of the Loika kingdom.

Their commander smirked as he couldn't wait to kill this accursed man that had killed many of his soldiers, as he tilted his head then smiled before he shouted with all of his might. "Gale regime, take your stance and prepare your arrows then on the count of three! Two!" At their commander's words, the bowsmen and bow maidens collectively loaded their bows then pointed them into the sky, as their commander stared at the mounted Loika cavalry charging at them. Killing intent was evident in his gaze as he shouted coldly. "One! Fire!!!"

With his words finished, the bowsmen and bow maidens let go of their grip as their arrows let loose, hurling into the skies in a sonic boom. And the Loika cavalry closing in noticed the sky darken as small dots closed in on them, if one stared long enough at them, they would recognize the arrows threatening to impale them in a single strike. But all of them ignored the rain of arrows impaling the ground then into one of them.

Instead of being alarmed by the threat, the three hundred cavalry of the cloud regime of the Loika kingdom merely smirked, as the sand around them rose to cover them in their advance. As the governor of the Loika kingdom mounted on his horse raised his hand and the three hundred cavalry behind him stopped, as he shouted. "Henry, governor of the Peta kingdom, let us settle this war through a duel of honor!!!"

On the other side, Henry the governor of the Peta kingdom ground his teeth since he couldn't believe that Kairo would not keep his promise at their anointed duel and came here unannounced, perhaps something happened to his kingdom like the emerging Evernight Cult had invaded in his absence.

But it did not matter to him since the earlier this war ended, the earlier he could return to his kingdom, and teach his incompetent sons some lessons for daring to put their claws in the military supply chains as he let out a roar. "Kairo, what the fuck are you doing here!!! Didn't we reach an agreement that our duel shall be delayed a month from now!!!"

Without waiting for a reply, Henry clenched his halberd then charged towards the gates mounted on his horse, as the ten commanders witnessing their governor charging at their enemies weren't something out of the norm. So all of them collectively shook their heads in disbelief as they too mounted their horses and left their posts, as they've rightfully followed their governor a few meters behind him.

The steps of their horses sent a fog trailing behind them, but Kairo observing this from a distance merely smirked as he stepped at the back of his horse then leaped through the air in a single motion. Kairo's ever calm face twisted into a demonic smile as his eyes radiated killing intent, as he shouted. "Then let us commence the duel, Henry!!!"

Henry hearing Kairo's words smiled even harder as he then let out a mad grin that said otherwise, as he shouted with all of his might. "Then let us fight to the death, you motherfucker!!"

Then in the next second, Henry stepped onto his moving horse's back then crouched low, as he leaped with all of his might, sending him into the air like a blur. As he twisted his waist then slashed his halberd into the air, sending a massive energy right through the empty space, as it could be seen hurling at Kairo as he shouted with insanity visible in his face. "Take this!! Crescent Moon Slash!!!"

  ---

In the far distance where the battle of the two warlords of the two kingdoms locked in a duel, the mysterious figure or Alister himself cackled, as he stared at the humanoid figure in front of him. He could see white horns protruding from its forehead as scales could be seen on its face.

Though this draconic man standing in front of him let out a threatening aura, Alister merely shrugged it off, since he had already known who this man was or what his goals were for approaching him. So instead of directly killing him, he waited for this man to speak.

The draconian clad in a loose fabric clinging to his glorious form yawned like he wasn't in danger, when he was in front of the most dangerous individual of the multiverse that even all venerates joined together to annihilate him. The draconian or perhaps Izrael the last god of the five gods yawned for the second time, as he said in a weary voice. "God killer, I prefer you don't make a scene this early on since my rest is more important than my courtesy."

Alister hearing his threatening words merely smiled like he had heard the most adorable words in his entire life; but he didn't reply to Izrael's words as he stared at the warring warlords from a distance then into the clone of Izrael before he said. "Huhuhu, I am not one too fond to make a move against such weaklings so pay no heed to my appearance since I had my agenda in coming here."

Alister didn't mind revealing his purpose for appearing here to Izrael since for him it didn't matter to him whoever knows what his purpose is in here, and wouldn't a supreme god of this lands know what his agenda is? Because if not, wouldn't it be foolish to approach him when he could ambush him indirectly through his clone to injure him? Though Izrael didn't know that Alister possesses such capabilities, it too didn't matter to him, since who could kill his clone in his home domain?

The two of them placed great confidence in their capabilities as people who had reached the highest they could ever achieve in all of their lifetime, so Izrael knowing it merely nodded. He was not too shocked at Alister's brazen attitude since he had already uncovered his nature the moment he entered this place, though he preferred that he didn't step into this place since it would be bothersome to fight him.

But knowing that he couldn't control the movement of another nor could he influence fate so that he could abstain himself from physical activities, Izrael could merely sigh at his misfortunes. But having confirmed that this man didn't want to cause a ruckus this early relieved him, since he could now sleep for a couple more years before the empire that worshipped him as their patron god would fall like always. Be it from internal conflict or to the barbarians led by Ohar the chieftain of the Ohar clan, or other external matters like the dragon emperor going mad.

For he Izrael did not want his rest to be disturbed, so he will be left with no choice but to kill his former oppressor that he had long surpassed, and he couldn't be bothered to do that in this final lifetime of his since this man named Alister is the key to free him from this world.

To let him achieve eternal rest like what he did to his brother Varuna and to his niece whose name he had forgotten, for he was too lazy to even remember it. So he took a step at the edge of the cliff as he let his clone free fall from such a height, but before his clone could hit the solid ground it vanished like the gust of wind passing through the valley as he whispered softly before he had truly vanished. "You have my gratitude, god killer or I prefer Alister von Fai, for not letting my final rest be interrupted in such trivial matters."

Alister smiled at his worries then he too took a step, since he too didn't want to spend too much time idling at this desolate place. So he activated his movement skill [Void Step] and vanished from sight, as he sheepishly whispered. "I wonder how strong Izrael is?"
