25 - Extroverted Help

It took the Fae several attempts to get all the magic onto the string, each failure meaning he had to scrub the string clean of all magic and start from scratch. As the final runes were placed, the Fae let out a triumphant shout, which paused the music for a moment. Until he waved his hand and the music resumed.

  —---

Once again our Hero referred to his map,

While narrowing avoiding a diving birds wing slap,

The Planar Mages were quite a walk away,

Which gave him time to enjoy the lovely day,

Even if the sounds of explosions were near,

Strangely he felt like there was nothing to fear,

Our Hero arrived at the Planar Mages spot,

The activity he saw was rather a lot,

A constant stream of people went in,

  Never ever seeming to thin,

Joining the flow he entered inside,

To see what the building did hide,

Through the doors he went and was amazed,

Row after Row of platforms were raised,

Upon a few there were portals to places far,

Even one that looked suspiciously like a bar,

Our Hero could have spent ages just looking,

That was before his nose noticed something cooking,

Off to the side there was food being prepared,

No seasoning or fragrance was being spared,

Quite a crowd bought something as they passed,

In many a hand, a pastry or sandwich was clasped,

Our Hero was on his way to grab something to eat,

When a stranger stopped in front of his feet,

This individual was taller than most,

Descriptions likened her to a lamppost,

Six feet tall, and dangerously thin,

Face plastered with a wide grin,

Obviously wanting to get his attention,

  Her pupils exhibiting extreme dilation,

She introduced herself as a Locus Mage,

That writes the portal coordinates upon a page,

Which others use to make sure their aim is right,

So the portal opens without a magical fight,

She preemptively scans everyone that walks in,

  Stolen story; please report.

So any mage asking for help takes less than a min,

Her divinations say our Hero is rather unique,

And that his home is so far she couldn’t take a peek,

It has been so long since she saw something new,

So if he could get her a large diamond or two,

Through the void she could easily peer,

And write details down to rival any seer,

She also mentioned that a portal that far,

Would definitely require some Infernal tar,

But other ingredients she didn’t know,

As her own portal skills were rather low,

So go ask the actual Portal mages,

For a list which might cover pages,

Leading our Hero over to a side door,

While constantly rambling about obscure lore,

Through the door, and into a side room,

Eliciting a look from a mage that spelled doom,

She skipped pleasantries and asked the mage to write down,

The ingredients for a portal while ignoring his frown,

The gem distance will be one kilogram,

And the destination is obscured by the Stellar Ram,

She fired off without waiting for agreement,

Her entire posture not allowing for argument,

With a sigh he stated the items that were needed,

To make sure the portals strength exceeded,

The problems caused by the interstellar distortions,

And the other mages greedy extortions,

The heart of a thousand year old beast,

A necklace of rainbow pearls, seven at least,

And infernal tar mixed with lich bone dust,

Otherwise the portal will be an utter bust,

With this information the conversation was over,

A constant stream of thanks came from his guide like a nova,

Grabbing our Hero by the arm he was pulled out,

Leaving the mage to be grumpy and pout,

It was clear that until his portal home was made,

His new shadow wouldn’t disappear nor fade.

With all the auditions going on inside,

He didn’t need to sneak nor hide,

Walking on up to the receptionist,

  And asked about our protagonist,

Helpful mentioned him joining a class,

Where skill in the hunt was needed to pass.

Will he survive being around such a chatterbox?
