18 - The Beast

The Fae took a moment to relax after the exertion of the last few minutes, causing the music to pause for several minutes, throughout the silence everyone's eyes stayed locked on the corner where the instrument hovered. With a sigh and a quick look around in appreciation of what they were doing, the Fae resumes the music.

  —---

The Beast had the way out blocked,

Its visage had them more than a bit shocked,

With the face of a wise old man,

Weathered with a strong Sailors tan,

A body of a beast larger than a cart,

Ready to tear them easily apart,

And a tail as long as they are tall,

Thick enough to make them feel quite small,

Wings so big that they had to be held tight,

Yet still managed to block most of the light,

Everyone stood still as if waiting a sign,

As if not moving would make everything fine,

With a tiny twitch then a massive lunge,

The Beast started the fight with a plunge,

Advancing on the group with great speed,

Ready to enact a most bloody deed,

Arrows already flying from the Ladys bow,

Yet not managing to make the Beast slow,

The Knight stepped forth with strength and grace,

Quickly drawing the Beast into his own pace,

Stepping and swinging his sword to a beat,

Set by more than his own two feet,

Our Heros harp sword quickly matched the flow,

The rhythm demanding his skills to show,

The Beast claws commanded a lot of respect,

As one failed dodge would have an effect,

Of ending a life without fanfare or cheers,

Just another adventurer that silently disappears,

It looked like our group would win the day,

Until the Beast suddenly turned away,

With its back turned it whipped its tail,

Like using a small tree trunk as a flail,

It lifted the Knight off the ground,

And into the far wall he hit with a sound,

Of bent metal and a cry of great pain,

Upon the Beast more arrows did rain,

Piercing hide and wing the Ladys arrows were known,

With anger and magic her bow had grown,

Infused the bow had a great deal of power,

That seemed to make the very air cower,

Every arrow that was released created shockwaves of air,

Causing a mad dance to flow through her hair,

With a kangaroo leap the Hero attacked,

  Slowly the Beasts conviction cracked,

From the cave to the air it finally fled,

From countless wounds it freely bled,

Many an arrow still seeked it out,

As the Lady released a wordless shout,

Finally the battle was finished and done,

Though it didn’t feel like they’d won,

After a breather they rushed to the Knight,

To check if he was breathing alright,

Though wounded and beaten he was still breathing,

That didn’t stop the Lady from grieving,

With much help the Knight stood and walked,

Looking down at the descent, none of them balked,

Great care was taken and going was much slower,

With lots of pain the Knight they did lower,

What took an hour to climb up quickly,

Took the rest of the day for one was sickly,

They arrived back at town with the setting Sun,

With the Iceblooms they had dearly won,

Soon they would have what they need,

To ensure from the Demons the town was freed,

But tonight is for rest and healing,

And recovering from blows that left them reeling,

The Beasts cries were heard wide that day,

As there was something it had failed to slay,

Many a story was created to explain,

What kind of horror could cause it pain,

We know the truth and the damage paid,

Even if from folklore it will never fade.

Yet still there was the one who stole,

And made within the tapestry a big hole,

They were quite elusive and clever,

Though all leads that could not sever,

Finding them would take much time,

But eventually they would pay for the crime.
