The Fae decided it was time to have fun, with every verse that he sang, he would change the colour of something in the room, to pink, or green or maybe to an iridescent rainbow. Starting small, a freckle, a lock of hair, or the buckle on a shoe. The slowing emerging tapestry of vibrant colours pleased him greatly.
—----
Through the door he stepped with new found conviction,
A subtle pressure from the room pushed his eviction,
Into a natural tunnel of rough uncut stone,
Glowing mushrooms illuminated a broken bone,
This place was inhabited, by who knows what,
At least the place wasn’t too cold or hot,
He left went not seeing the disappearing door,
Just making sure he didn't slip on the uneven floor,
He was alone, his steps making most of the sound,
Along with the water drops that hit the ground,
After minutes of walking he came to a split,
Both tunnels big enough for a troll to sit,
The path to the right slowly sloped down,
Something about it made him want to frown,
The path to the left slowly got higher,
To see the sky once more was now a desire,
So to the left he went with renewed vigor,
Striking to any that might see an imposing figure,
Apart from a rat munching on a mushroom,
He didn’t see much in the pale gloom,
So he continued for what felt like forever,
Wondering if going left was really clever,
That was until his nose was assaulted,
Into which a stench was catapulted,
Like someone had died and was left in the sun,
Paired with a group who failed a toilet run,
He slowed down as he carefully arrived,
Upon a few goblins that had thrived,
Bones from many meals were roughly piled,
As the feasting goblins bickered and smiled,
Three green monsters the size of children,
Within this cave had made their den,
There was no way for him to sneak by,
So to fight through he would have to try,
His sword started to hum in anticipation,
Of the upcoming Goblin decapitation,
He rushed forward with clear intention,
The first was dead now he had their attention,
As the body fell onto the cluttered floor,
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
The others got splattered with the falling gore,
Shrieks and cries rose from the other two,
As they threw bones and rancid stew,
Listening to the harp he dodged them all,
A vertical swing of his sword caused another to fall,
The last decided this fight wasn’t fair,
And ran away without any care,
So the Hero did a kangaroo thrust,
Resulting in the Goblins head to bust,
Taking a few minutes to survey the scene,
The smell making him wonder if he’ll ever be clean,
A quick look showed only bones and rotting meat,
As he left the cave he wiped his feet,
The horrors would stick in his mind for years,
Attached to an every growing list of fears,
His desire to leave was undisguisable,
So he left with more haste than was advisable,
There were many openings on the other side of this cave,
He picked one at random so his stomach would behave,
Nearly ten minutes past before the smell started to clear,
This mere fact caused him to release a great cheer,
It wasn’t long before the tunnel split once more,
And once again he chose the rising floor,
How deep was this place, he couldn’t tell,
The entire place was like a half dark Hell,
The ceiling felt like it was taunting him,
That the chances of him surviving were always slim,
The tunnels kept splitting and merging,
He found more Goblins in need of purging,
Though the Goblins all had food,
Every fight soured more than his mood,
In the last fight one Goblin managed to score,
A light hit that left his arm quite sore,
His tiredness was now plain to see,
He wondered when would he be free,
Finally after hours, the light started to increase,
From these caves he would finally have release,
Natural light could be seen round the bend,
This alone caused his mood to amend,
To the exit he ran without due care,
Upon the sky he wanted to stare,
This whole thing had been an horrid ordeal,
That he didn’t think was in vaguely real,
So to ground him he needed to see,
Something real like a house or a tree.
