Conquest 71 – One Infernal of a Butler (1)

Paimoth stood there for a second, curious about my idea of making him into a butler.

I began to explain, having already settled into the idea! “Yup, I think you’d be perfect for the role! You already hold yourself courteously and distinguished when you introduced yourself! Plus, you looked like you’re very knowledgeable and dependable. I could use someone to help with my daily needs.”

His glowing eyes started to brighten up and flicker rather rapidly. I wasn’t quite sure what kind of emotions that meant but hoped that it was positive.

Not long after Paimoth lowered his head did he answered with vigor in his voice. “I wholeheartedly accept Master Vladimir. From this day forth I’ll devote myself as your butler!”

“Veehahahahaha! Glad to hear! Now let’s get started, shall we?! There’s a lot we need to do before you’re ready to take on your role! ~”

I walked forward with my newly appointed shadow butler faithfully following behind. Meanwhile, the priestess I had forgotten at the moment could only look on in bewilderment.

“…. A Daemon acting as a butler? ..... Just who exactly is this weird kobold?”

It took a few seconds before the silvered haired woman recomposed herself. She still had a job to do. She frantically caught up with us, still needing to monitor me after all. I can admit, she is dedicated if nothing else. Got to admire that aspect of her. Now if only she wasn’t so damn stubborn!

The first order of business was replacing Paimoth’s old clothes. A proper butler needs the best outfits after all. Besides, those ragged clothes were beyond repair. We went to gather some necessary materials we needed to make his outfits. I remember reading up on a material called linen before which used a type of plant, so I had previously gone through the town asking if they used something similar.

Lucky for us they did use such types of plants and have sold some cloth of that materials. I had some extra money from my latest quests and thought it appropriate to use that to buy them. I did technically have the power to just take it, but I would rather keep the economy of my empire running smoothly.

After buying the fabric I then gathered some flowers with the right colors I had in mind for the dye. I was considering using purple as the main color for him but since I was already rocking it myself with my awesome trench coat, I would have to consider a different color. Black and white would normally be appropriate color and was a staple for butler outfits but with his body already like that it would simply blend in too much.

As I considered what to use, I looked at his glowing eyes, inspiration struck! I immediately started to get to work, Paimoth and Katherine watched. Using [Material Forge] crafting the clothing took little time, though I was feeling spent since this was rather detailed work.

Once I was done, I gave it to the Daemon who happily put it on. He checked to see if it would fit well as I took the time to examine how it looked on him. He was now wearing a two-piece suit; the jacket and pants were a of a lapis blue color. That was a tricky part in trying to get the dye just right having the mix the flowers to the right amount to achieve but it was worth it! The color worked well with his shadowy body especially when you add the golden like undershirt he wore. The whole thing makes him look like a walking lapis jewel!

It was the perfect way to show off my precious new henchman. “Veehahahahaha looking rather dazzling Paimoth. What do you think? ~”

After finishing admiring his new suit the shadow moth gave a deep bow. The shadows around him danced and twirled in time with his emotions. “It is perfect master. I’ll be sure to keep it in top condition.”

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Well, I’ll be sure to make more copies of it so you won’t have to be stuck with just one to use all the time. ~” I shook my head, feeling a bit dizzy. “Though it might take a while. Detailed work with my skill sure takes more Mana out of me.”

“You called this skill [Material Forge] correct? I’ve never heard of such a thing before. There is of course the case of manipulating Mana to create various elements but to restructure the solid materials themselves is unheard of.”

Paimoth suddenly inched closer to me, face to face. With such a close view I noticed that his head was so obscured by its natural darkness it was difficult to make out the outline of his head.

“If it is alright with you master, I would like to learn on how you acquired such skill.” He insisted.

It was hard to look away from his piercing glowing eyes. And I could tell that he wasn’t the only one staring at me. Katherine was as well, both wanting to know the source of this unknown skill.

I needed to deflect them from the topic quickly!

“We can discuss it another time! For now, let’s have you acquainted with the rest of my henchmen. They’re still stationed at the Mivtic kingdom right now!”

Paimoth tilted his head a bit but seemed to accept it as he nodded. On the other hand, Katherine’s glare only intensified. Yup, she is extra suspicious now! Whatever I’ll deal with it later!

I was about to call over some of my wolves over to begin transportation. That is until Mordred started running towards me.

  “Wait boss, I’m coming too!”

I was about to object, there are still things he needed to do in Greyston but seeing the look in his eyes I can tell he was going to insist on coming regardless of what I say. I sighed in resignation and casually jumped on his familiar shoulder. Besides, the wolves could use a bit of break.

Though now was the matter of the priestess. We could just leave her behind, or better yet she could just run after all. But the second I thought of that I instantly thought of all the whining I would have to endure. Funny as it maybe I get the distinct feeling I wouldn’t be able to endure this one.

But I can’t just give only her one of my wolves to ride. They gave me the impression that they only gave her a ride because I was riding one of them myself. What to do then…

As if reading my mind Paimoth brought up a solution. “If I may master Vladimir, I could carry the priestess using some of my shadows. I wouldn’t want her having to sit on your minotaur’s other shoulder.”

Mordred snorted in a huff. “Wasn’t going to offer anyway.” He began to flex to show off his strength. “Only the boss and V are allowed to ride on my shoulders! ~”

Katherine was offended, the expression she was making was hard to describe. Though I couldn’t help but give a chuckle, I didn’t know someone could make a face like that. “You are not going to let that Daemon’s magic drag me off like some-”

“Sorry priestess its either this, running after us, or leaving me to alone to do who knows what. Go ahead Paimoth, we’re going now ~”

  “Understood master.”

  “Wait now don- AAAAHHHH!!”

The second I gave the order Paimoth had wrapped the poor woman in a tendril of darkness and flew up with her on hand.

All the while, Katherine was yelling a bunch of insults at us. It usually pertained to calling me stuff like tiny lizard or scaly madman while also swearing me and Paimoth would pay for this.

We managed to reach to the Mivtic Kingdom in record speed. During the trip here Mordred was feeling a bit competitive for the new guy and wanted to compete with who could reach the kingdom fastest, which Paimoth curiously accepted.

It ended up with Katherine quieting down and instead focused on holding on for dear life. As for me I held on tightly to Mordred’s furry shoulder pads with a little help with reforging to keep me in place.

Once we stopped Paimoth carefully placed the priestess down. She was keeping her eyes closed while holding her staff firmly, not realizing that we had landed already. Well, I say it was still more preferable than her having to run the whole way here.

Though I doubt she’s going to feel that way soon. She started to catch her breath and calm her nerves. Once she did, she started to prepare her staff.

My kobold instincts started to kick in and while I would normally ignore its compulsion for me to run away, I felt like I should agree with it this one time and quickly jumped off of Mordred’s should and put some distance between us. I instinctively ducked and just barely dodged a ray of light from singing my scales!

“YOU ARE GOING TO PAY FOR THAT YOU MANIACAL REPTILE!!”

Numerous rays of light rapidly blasted at my direction as I was chased by a raging silvered haired woman. With a worried but angry Minotaur following behind wanting to stop her.

We ended up going in circles, the priestess surprisingly agile when she wants to be. All the while Paimoth looked on, chuckling a bit to himself over the silliness he was seeing and feeling excited to take on his butler roles.
