Conquest 46 – Game Interface

Now that we had everything settled, it was time to figure out what to do from here on out. First order of business, I fixed up everyone’s gear. Many of them suffered some serious damage while others only had a few scratches. Mordred’s had the worst of it having been almost destroyed by his fight with the Knight Commander. Once I was done with repairs I thought on my options. One possibility would be to have everyone retreat back into my town to let everyone recover, but from what I saw of how they operate that may not be the best idea.

Who knows when they will invade us again. As well I still need to figure out how they managed to ambush us earlier. Maybe they had someone or something who could also locate us. If that’s the case, I’ll have to find a way to deal with that.

But worst of all, I’ll need to settle my score with their knight commander. I instinctively rubbed my left arm as I remembered the wound he inflicted on me. I don’t know who it was that he gave him that information about me, but it doesn’t matter now. Right now I need to think of something new to deal with him and his [Mithril Heavy Armor]. That’ll make my [Skills] harder to use against him depending on if it counted as a magic attack or not.

What’s worse is that he can match Mordred enough to injure him like before. And I rather not have to rely on Mordred’s [Bloody Rage] as that has so far only caused more problems than solved them so far. Out of curiosity, I thought to check on my stats and see if there were any changes since our escape though I doubt it.

As I figured, there wasn’t much change on progress though I was interested in [Game Screen] and [Kobold Adaptability] since they’re both ready to rank up. I was curious about what kinds of upgrades I could get once they do. But I wouldn’t know how I could increase the progression for the latter. As for the former…

“There’s something I need to do; can I trust you guys to keep watch?” I discussed it with my henchmen.

They seemed a bit confused but complied, gathering the rest of the minions to set up camp and making sure everyone wasn’t pushing themselves. Once they got to their tasks I began on my own.

I got to a nearby tree and sat down. This was going to be dull and tedious task but hopefully it will be worth it. I then proceeded to go through my [Game Screen]’s various menus. At this point I’ve grown accustomed to it and could go through them with little effort, but this time I thought of taking my time and seeing if there was anything else I missed. I wanted to see if there was some feature that I could use to help my odds against the kingdom.

I kept at it for hours; from scrolling through each menu to pressing any of the words for a reaction using both my own mind and my fingers. To my surprise, I found that I could check on the stat of my henchmen without having to inspect them directly through the henchman list, as well I found that when I clicked on a species of the follower’s list it pulls up a whole new separate list that gives off the names of each one. I found it interesting that only the humans list had any names as for my monster minions merely had them listed as numbers instead.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think any of us monsters ever had names. The only ones who did were all the ones that I handpicked myself. I was curious about what kind of effect it would have to be given a name, I guess it’s something to explore at a later date.

Meanwhile, while the others were busy setting up camp, they had started to notice my actions and were a bit curious about what I was doing. After all, it looked like I was staring into space while often moving my claws around as if I was touching something. Usually, I would be mindful on how I would act when I use [Game Screen] but I was too invested to care for the moment. Though, I did pick up on some of their conversations, mostly from a familiar trio of mine.

“…. what is the chief doing for so long?”

“I’m not sure…. but if I recall I have seen him motion his claw in the air from time to time”

“I’ve noticed it to, sometimes he gives off a satisfying grin too afterwards.”

Sometimes I wonder if they know could hear them. Oh well, not that I mind too much. It was when Zeph joined in the conversation that I got curious.

“I have seen him do that back when we were sharing the same jail cells. I assume it might be an ability of his or something. It was after he motioned his claws that he managed to escape.”

…. Damn, how much was he paying attention to me when I was incarcerated? But if he did see all that, how come he didn’t say anything.

As if hearing my thoughts, Zeph looked in my direction and saw me looking at them before winking at me. I looked away and continued going through my [Game Screen] some more. As I do, I started to wonder why I needed to hide [Game Screen] from my own followers.

I couldn’t help but remember how they acted earlier when we finally reunited. Even on how V was clingy on to me. At the very least, maybe it won’t be bad to at least let my henchmen know. At the same time while I was mindlessly scrolling through my menus while I was deep thought I suddenly gotten a notification.

I nearly jumped for joy after I read the notice! Immediately, I started to go through menus to see what kind of new features I gained. Hopefully there will be something that could help with my current problems.

I quickly found that there was a new tab labeled Chat. Curiously I explored the new menu and found that it had two features like Call and Messages. I decided I’d like to try the Messages first and selected the option. It then pulled up the follower list, so I pulled out the henchmen list and a new window appeared.

This reminded me of the message system from a game I played before which…... considering my ability is called [Game Screen] it made sense. Seeing as there wasn’t any keyboard around, I assumed that the messages feature worked through thought. I made a simple hi message and sent thoughts for it to send.

No sooner had I done so than I suddenly heard a scream not too far off, making me jump in surprise.

“WHHAAAA!! What is this?! Why is there this weird glowing thing in front of me!? Are we under attack?!!” It was Mordred, who was helping out my minions out only to be suddenly freaking out and even pulled out his axe!

….. You know, maybe sending the message to Mordred wasn’t my best idea. I should have known he would act like this! I better do something before someone gets even more hurt!

I immediately jumped into action, having to use [Material Forge] to send me flying towards Mordred as I yelled for him. “Mordred Stop!!”

Hearing my voice, Mordred immediately dropped his axe as he caught me in the air. He was about to talk but I motioned my claw. “I’ll explain, just calm down. We aren’t under attack.”

I should have considered it, we only just reunited. Everyone was probably still on edge. My minions had worried looks across their faces, I gave off a confident smile to reassure them and it seemed to have worked a bit.

Before Mordred could ask his questions, I shook my head. “Gather the rest of my henchmen. But let V sleep, I rather not disturb them. I’ll make sure to explain it to them later. This is something I wanted to discuss with you all privately.”

Mordred obediently nodded, after serving me for this long he knows it’s best to let me explain when needed. So, he began calling over Damian and Zeph over away from the rest of my minions. Good thing my minions understood to let us have our private conversation since it could be important. Of course, just to be sure I forged temporary walls around us with the dirt.

Once things quiet down, I looked at my henchmen who all immediately started to ask questions.

“B-boss, what exactly is going on? What is this weird floating thing that’s still next to me?” Mordred was trying to swat at the notification with no luck as his hand merely phased right through it.

Damian meanwhile tilted his head to show his confusion “…. What are you talking about Mordred, there’s nothing there.”

“What ARE you talking about?! Can’t you see it, it’s right there!” Mordred desperately pointed at the screen, trying to show he wasn’t going crazy. But Damian stared on looking puzzled.

Meanwhile, Zeph didn’t seem fazed at all. In fact, he was smirking right at him knowingly. Just how much has he figured out?

Whatever the case, I needed to start explaining now before Mordred freaked out even more. “Alright look let me explain, you se-”

But before I finished my sentence I finally noticed. There was something floating on top of Mordred’s head, it was his name?? I looked at the others and saw that they had one as well. Was this also a new feature as well?

Look forward to a QnA that I'll force the author to do~
