Chapter 39

Off to the Adventurers Guild. I could barely sleep last night because I was so excited about the possibilities of teaching some members of the Guild the Minor Healing spell. This would definitely be a game changer. Teams would have a healer with them when adventuring. They would be safer and could adventure longer. Many lives would be saved by having the ability to cast Minor Heal. Even Close Wounds and Minor Life Regenerate would be useful.

Morning came and I got dressed. I practically ran down for breakfast. I wrote a quick note to the Guild master asking for him to have a couple of magic users be available for me just before lunch. Gabriel had one of the staff deliver it.

Breakfast was great. An omelet with ham and mushrooms, seasoned to perfection. Orange like juice, baked bread, and a side of fruit. I caught Gabriel using his Cleanse spell on his plate after he finished. I imagine he would try it several times today.

At last, it was time to go to the Guild. I grabbed my backpack and filled it with the Minor Heal, Close Wounds, and Minor Life Regenerate tomes. Fabia and I left together. Rodof accompanied us as he said I needed a guard. I didn’t argue, though I privately thought he just wanted to see his guild friends.

When I arrived at the Guild house, I immediately went to the receptionist and asked about the magic users. She led me to a private room, where two individuals were waiting. I introduced Rodof, Fabia and myself.

“I am Fralley, and this is Aldra. It is good to meet you. We have heard very good thing about you. Gorver asked us to meet with you but didn’t go into details. So, how can we help you?”

I told them about my experiment with creating spells and how I was able to create the Minor Healing spell. Both were impressed. I then went on to explain about how I tried to get others to learn the spell but was unsuccessful. Finally, I told them about the spell tomes and my success with the Cleanse spell.

“Would you be willing to learn the Minor Healing spell? It is limited in what it can do. It’s about the equivalent of a medium healing potion for me. You will need to get the skill level up to 4 for it to be truly effective. I believe it will start as a light healing potion and then get better as the skill level increases. If you are willing to learn it, I am willing to teach it to you, but you will have to agree to provide healing to the Sick Ward in the Guild at least twice a month, each.” I looked at them both to gauge their interest. Both seemed excited for the opportunity, and having to support the Sick Ward was not an issue.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

“I agree to your terms” said Fralley.

  “So do I” said Aldra.

“Then let’s begin”. I said and began going over the details of the diagrams for Minor Healing. I made sure both understood the magic flow, and the expectations of the spell. I even cast it on them, so they understood how it felt. I spent at least an hour going over every detail and answering all their questions. The questions were very insightful and helped me explain things clearer.

Now, I brought out the Minor Healing tome and gave it to Aldra first. She opened it and studied every detail of the diagram as I had instructed her. Finally, she read the words out loud “Minor Healing”. The tome glowed just as the other tome had glowed for Gabriel. A second later, the glow stopped and a huge smile crossed Aldra’s face.

“Oh, my goddess, it worked. I learned the spell. I need to test it. Please come with me to the Sick Ward.”

Fabia volunteered to go with her, while I stayed. I gave the tome to Fralley to learn the spell. Like Aldra, he took his time to study the diagram, and then said the words “Minor Healing” out loud. The tome glowed again for a second. Fralley smiled even bigger than Aldra.

“Thank the Lords of Summer. I have it. I have the spell. Let’s go heal somebody.”

Rodof, Fralley and I rushed to the Sick Ward. Where we found Aldra casting Minor Healing on one of the patients. When done, the patient was healed.

Fralley ran to another patient and cast Minor Healing. Everything thing went as expected. Then he went to the next patient who was more severely injured. He cast Minor Healing. Some improvement was done, but they were not completely healed. I told him to cast it again. More improvement. Cast again, and finally it was fully healed.

Magic healing was no longer just me, which was a relief. Magic users could learn the Minor Healing spell and be able to treat injuries. This will work wonders for the Adventurers Guild. Monster Hunting teams can now bring a Healer with them. They should be able to go farther into dungeons. Level quicker because of it.

As for the Healers Guild, this could benefit them too. Instead of expensive potions, magical healers could help the people. They could be the center for expanding the magical healing arts. Devise more and better healing and curing spells. I imagine a rotation of healers going from town to town, healing injuries and curing diseases. The Healers Guild would practically be worshipped by the people.

While that would be nice, but the current leadership is still sending assassins after me, so I don’t think they would be interested in being the beneficent organization I just described. More likely, they would charge outrageous prices for the smallest healing, just like they do today. According to the files Earl Donnert found in Grandmaster Yuri’s office, the entire leadership is focused on money and political influence. Small towns don’t have either, so the Healers Guild never goes there. I will not be teaching Healer Guild members any healing magic.
