When they returned to San Francisco to meet Mohammed’s old flame, they discovered that she had stood him up. They went to a museum instead. The museum featured drone photography, cellphone footage where the photographers were killed by snipers, playground phantasias for children and wild animals, cargo nets full of boulders, dresses made of plastic straws, surveillance footage from other parts of the museum, and a room full of paintings which were actually windows into other rooms. It left them both shell-shocked and grim.
When they got out, they found that Blake’s car had been towed. In San Francisco, street parking is subject to a variety of overlapping regulations, including time windows, time limits, and street sweeping. Blake had correctly read two signs but missed a third, so Lil Ol Blue was towed for street sweeping. He had to pay $1000 to get her back, which was half the money he had left. He wanted to get a job in California, but he was running out of time. Once again, they couldn’t find anywhere to eat. Eventually, Mohammed got on a plane and flew back to New Jersey.

Blake drove through the parks looking for a place to sleep. Without purpose, he could go anywhere. The Beatles sang,
Out of college, money spent.
See no future, pay no rent.
All the money’s gone, nowhere to go.
