The moment Kaiden and Naō stepped into the Chamber of the Hollowed Pact, the world sealed behind them. The threshold vanished, consumed by thick, breathing bark that reformed into a twisted wall. Their HUD flickered.
[Instance Locked – Exit Disabled Until Completion]
A long, curved tunnel stretched before them, like the hollow of some long-dead tree. The walls pulsed faintly, glowing with residual corruption, and the air was choked with the scent of rot and wet earth. Their footsteps made no echo—sound seemed swallowed whole.
“This doesn’t feel like a temple,” Kaiden muttered. “This feels like we’re inside a body.”
“Let’s just make sure it doesn’t try to digest us,” Naō replied, grimacing.
At the end of the tunnel, the passage opened into a large, circular chamber. Its centerpiece was a great, gnarled gate choked with withering fungal growths and glowing Unseelie veins. On either side of it, faintly etched into the curved stone, were the broken remnants of an elegant Seelie sigil. Three paths branched off the main chamber, each leading into shadowy corridors.

A flicker of the Photosphere pulsed in Kaiden’s inventory as they approached. The rot seemed wary.
Naō knelt near the sigil. “Elegant, protective. They locked something in.”
Kaiden stared down each darkened passage. “Or they were trying to keep something out.”
The first corridor ended in a tall domed room, its ceiling cracked open to let in a sliver of pale light. Mirrors lined the chamber’s walls each dull, pitted, and overgrown with speckled moss.
In the center stood a pedestal holding a prism-shaped crystal, glowing faintly with clean blue light.

Kaiden stepped forward, moving one of the mirrors carefully. When aligned, the prism’s beam shot across the room, cutting through a vein of rot and making it wither on impact.
[Rot Vein Severed: 1/3]
But the rot fought back. Tendrils writhed toward the beam, growing thicker.
“So it looks like there’s a timer for these things,” Kaiden muttered.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
[Corruption: 3 Stacks – Status: Weakened (-10% DEF)]
Naō tossed a Mistbreaker Draught, clearing a safe zone. “We need to rotate the outermost mirrors before the fog reforms.”
They worked quickly, shifting panels in tandem. Every second spent inside the room added pressure. One rotling crept in, baring mossy fangs. Kaiden cleaved it in half without breaking stride.
The final mirror locked into place. A surge of pure light cut through the remaining rot.
[Rot Vein Severed: 3/3 – Chamber Cleansed]
The second corridor led to a chamber filled with concentric stone rings. At the center stood a massive Seelie scale, two great stone dishes suspended by vine-wrapped chains. Nearby, a scattering of stones embedded with different fungal growths pulsed with colored light.
A plaque nearby read: “The balance of rot and bloom is not equal in weight, but equal in purpose.”
“Great,” Naō said. “Philosophy puzzles.”
They began placing stones onto the scales. One glowed faint green, another deep violet. As they tested combinations, the chains creaked ominously.
Too much weight on one side caused the chamber to fill with fog.
[Corruption: 5 Stacks – Status: Rot Fever (-2 LP/sec)]
Kaiden began losing health.

“Got it!” Naō shouted, swapping a stone out for a lighter one with inverted rot.
[Balance Achieved – Chamber Cleansed]
The fog retreated. Kaiden wiped sweat from his brow. “Remind me to let you pick all the puzzle quests from now on.”
Naō grinned. “We’re not done yet.”
The third chamber was entirely composed of pulsating roots, like an organic organ. Along the walls were carved channels, slots meant to guide sap into a central bloom.
Each slot glowed faintly, and tapping them caused the roots to shift.
“Like a pipe puzzle,” Kaiden noted.
They rotated the conduits, trying to guide the flow without blocking it. If misaligned, the rot pushed back.
[Corruption: 7 Stacks – Status: Hallucination – Mild Visual Distortions]
Kaiden blinked. For a moment, Naō’s face blurred into something else.
“Focus!” Naō shouted. “Turn the left branch counterclockwise!”
The final conduit locked into place. Sap surged forward, glowing blue and violet, filling the central bloom. It pulsed with energy.
[Harmonic Alignment Complete – Chamber Cleansed]
Returning to the main chamber, the fungal gate now shimmered with Seelie and Unseelie resonance.
The rot recoiled and peeled back, revealing a spiral staircase carved into petrified bark, leading downward.
Above them, faint text formed in the air: [New Achievement Unlocked: Pact-Bound Pathfinder]
Naō exhaled. “looks like the Unseelie really wanted to keep people, or the Unseelie, out... or whatever inside?”
Kaiden stared into the depths. “Let’s hope what’s down there isn’t worse than what we had gone through.” They descended.
