Kaiden stepped into the lively hum of Cindralis. The sun was dipping low behind the jagged rooftops, casting a fiery orange glow over the bustling plaza. Players darted through the cobbled walkways, some riding mounts, others crafting, and plenty just loitering near the central fountain with idle emotes or open party invites.

He lowered his hood and took a slow breath. Even after the Root Temple, the smell of fungal rot still clung faintly to his gear. It had been hours since that eerie silence, and the whispers of the Seelie archive still echoed faintly in his ears.
[New Message from: Mixmaster]
Back on. Let’s debrief. Near the merchant hub.
Kaiden turned and made his way toward the row of merchant stalls just south of the plaza, where Naō stood near a crafting forge, fiddling with what looked like potion components. He looked up, smiled faintly, and gave a nod.
“You look like death,” Naō said, slipping the last vial into his pouch. “Smell like it, too.”
“Haha. Funny,” Kaiden said.
Naō raised his hands in surrender. “Okay, okay, I’ll give you a break. Catch me up?”
They found a quiet overlook near the plaza’s outer railing, facing the golden sun as it sank toward the west. Kaiden leaned against the stone, recounting everything: the Seelie murals, the whispering trees, the Fragment. He described the broken Axis and the podlike fungal core he found nestled inside the temple walls.
“The Photosphere didn’t give you a prompt?” Naō asked, brow furrowed.
Kaiden shook his head. “No tooltips. No interaction. It just reacted. Like it knew it was there, but the game didn’t.”
He paused, then added, more quietly, “And there’s more. My sister, Mina, got attacked IRL. By a plant. Something my grandfather brought back a while ago. She was bitten, and it never did that before. Tell me that ain’t weird?”
Naō didn’t have an answer to that.
Kaiden continued. “She’s in the hospital. The doctor said her body’s responding like she’s fighting off a parasite. It reminded me of Belgrave.”
Naō leaned back, jaw tight. “So, you don’t think there’s some kind of coincidence?”
Kaiden didn’t respond at first, then shrugged. “At this point, nothing is a coincidence.”
They eventually wandered back into the plaza, now glowing beneath hanging crystal lights. Players were everywhere, posing, dueling, arguing over item prices. A cluster sat on the fountain edge, trading rumors.

“Yo, did you see the replay of that PvE tourney? The dude with the water scythe?”
“Yeah, what was that class? Double-blade caster hybrid?”
“Someone on the forums said he’s a Ghost. Totally unlisted class tree.”
“Ghost? For real?”
“Yeah. My FC swears he saw dev-markers on the UI during the stream. Probably a ghost account. Stealthed content.”
“No shot. Looked too low-leveled to be a mod.”
Kaiden tilted his head toward the crowd but didn’t say anything.
Naō cracked a grin. “You’re trending, y’know. ‘Reaper Ghost’ is the top tagged clip of the day.”
Kaiden exhaled. “Fantastic.”
Naō nudged him lightly with an elbow. “So... What about CrimsonCrow?”
Kaiden’s gaze lingered on the crowd. “Still no sign. He hasn’t logged in since the tournament. Tried messaging. Nothing.”
“And the FC?”
“Locked. We’ve both been kicked. We can teleport to Arclight Haven thanks to his party port, but his house is off-limits.”
Naō crossed his arms. “So now what? He’s tied to all this. The Photosphere. Alex. Everything.”
Kaiden nodded slowly. “We keep pushing forward. Level up. Chase leads. We can’t figure out what happened unless we’re strong enough to survive it.”
They crossed through Sunspire Plaza, heading toward the bridge that arched over one of Cindralis’s irrigation canals. Just before they reached the midpoint, Kaiden’s UI pulsed with a familiar flicker.
A section of the world map lit up in a faint hexagonal grid overlay. It wasn’t marked, but the shape was unmistakable: a corrupted biome signature.
[New Objective Pinged: Echoes of Rot – Grove of Withering Silence]
A corrupted zone has emerged beyond the southern fields.
Kaiden stopped. “Got a ping.”
Naō looked over his shoulder. “We taking it?”
Kaiden smirked. “I think it’s time we see what the other court has to say.”
